As we continue our look into select 2014 schedules, the Lakeland Dreadnaughts have things squared away for the 2014 season and what we use to see in the past of a tight and tough schedule is no longer really the case.
The Dreadnaughts have continued to build upon the tradition of having a winning season year-in and year-out, however, the last two seasons, Lakeland has been matched in a district game, sending them on the road for the playoffs. Could it happen again this year? It is very possible.
With that said, we believe a schedule tells a lot about a team and what we think they might do. Usually a team that tries to bolster their schedule with teams that are just equally competitive or better says your team has something coming back that you want everyone else to notice. Schedule teams that don’t have provide you a nice strength of schedule, it usually goes the other way around.
With that said here is what we take away from Lakeland’s 2014 schedule:
THREE BEST OPPONENTS: Kathleen, Winter Haven, Treasure Coast
THREE WORST OPPONENTS: George Jenkins, Haines City, Fort Lauderdale
BEST OVERALL GAME & DISTRICT TRAP GAME: at Kathleen, Friday, October 31
We rolled the two of the three categories into one with this because this is appears to be the best game on the schedule at the moment. Call it as you see it, but this game could literally come down for the district title once again and could put the Dreadnaughts in one place they don’t want to be in the playoffs: on the road in the first round. Kathleen showed last year, that they are back and ready to be forceful challengers.
THE WEAKEST GAME: vs. Fort Lauderdale, Friday, October 10
We never understood the reason behind the scheduling a team from South Florida that brings little appeal to the table for a game that could help your schedule. Instead we see this game as a very weak one that likely means another win for the Dreadnaughts at the end of the night. Fort Lauderdale started out last season looking like they could have a really great season, but couldn’t muster up a win in district play sending, two sub-500 teams into the playoffs instead and kept them at home with a winning record. Again this game does nothing for the Dreadnaughts besides provide another win.
