DISTRICT 6A-8
The “District of Death” is already in action as nine teams comprise of the district that include 2013 Class 6A State Runner-up Armwood.
While it is not surprising to see Armwood, Hillsborough or Chamberlain to already have a win in district play, there is one surprise among the rest. That surprise is Lennard which is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in district play. If the Longhorns keep up with the winning we could be talking a challenger to who might end up fetching the runner-up spot towards the end of the season.
Jefferson being the best team not to have a win in the district is a bit surprising, but Hillsborough flexed a muscle to start district play and got the win over the Dragons.
It should be no surprise that Leto hasn’t won a district game yet. Enrollment size puts them here, but to have an true shot of getting a shot of confidence would have to come from being in a slightly smaller and less challenging district.

DISTRICT 6A-10
While only two of the four teams met last week, the tone is already being set in this district for the year.
And if one looks at things, it could be an ultimate dog fight with all four teams trying to dual for two playoff spots. Tiebreaker anyone?
South Lake and Lake Minneola faced off Friday night in what was a high scoring affair with 71 points being scored between the two teams. While Lake Minneola led for most of the game, South Lake surged late to win the game and get a head start on the rest of the district. Lake Minneola will need to win the next two games to keep things on track to get in the playoffs once again this season.

DISTRICT 2A-5
Indian Rocks Christian has recently become the No. 1 team in Class 2A having rolled their first two opponents by margins, including district foe Carrollwood Day who up until recently has contended well with the Golden Eagles.
Another team that flexed a big muscle in the district race early is Cambridge Christian which rolled by Bradenton Christian to sit on top of the District 2A-5 standings with Indian Rocks Christian.
With Carrollwood looking down, the playoffs might not be in the decks for the Patriots this year as they try to rebuild with new and younger talent.
Bradenton Christian right now appears to be in for being part of the middle of the district, but that could change quickly depending on the performance of the rest of the district.

DISTRICT 2A-7
“Here Come The Gators” …. as in the Glades Day Gators that is.
The Gators opened up district play last week with Village Academy and shut the Tigers out 27-0 to start a top the district.
The district race might not be decided until later in the season, but Glades Day is doing all it can by playing a variety of team and staying competitive on the field even if they don’t have the playmakers they once had.

Glades Day 27, Village Academy 0
DISTRICT 1A-2
District play in Florida’s smallest classification started on Friday night when Wewahitchka hosted Cottondale in the District 1A-2 opener.
Cottondale which was a 1A state semifinalist last season before being bounced by eventual Class 1A state runner-up Blountstown could be in for a long year with the district as they feel to what has been a weak Wewahitchka team.
For Wewahitchka, the win over Cottondale is a momentum booster, but puts the Gators in the drivers seat for now with the district. A couple more district wins and a trip to the playoffs would be a possibility.

Wewahitchka 37, Cottondale 28
