KOSNITZKY’S KORNER: Playoff Expectations in 8A for Dade and Broward County

Saturday, November 10th, 2012
In 2010, when Weston Cypress Bay (8-2) lost a 3 point heartbreaker to the eventual champion Miami Central in the state semifinal, they had peace of mind knowing that many of their key offensive players were only sophomores and then they would eventually get their chance again. As we begin the 2012 playoff season, QB, Jaranta Lewis, C, Jason Rae, RB Matt Dayes and WR, Alex Montgomery are now seniors. The District 12-8A Champions enter this game with optimism, following an 8-2 record with only losses Read more [...]

KOSNITZKY’S KORNER: Four Corners and Hot Dogs

Monday, October 29th, 2012
With the change in scheduling due to Sandy, I had the luxury of attending games I may not have seen this week. Personally, I attended the Plantation - St. Thomas game and the Cardinal Gibbons - American Heritage Plantation game. Plantation is for real - While the Colonels (6-2; 3-1) lost a tough battle on Saturday at St. Thomas 24-20, this was a game they could have won. They did a great job controlling the line of scrimmage and with the rushing attack of Chris Lammons, Antonio Williams and Read more [...]

NASH’S NOTES: St. Thomas Aquinas wins tough battle against Plantation

Sunday, October 28th, 2012
Like many games in South Florida, the St. Thomas Aquinas (6-2, 4-0) and Plantation (6-2, 3-1) was moved to Saturday afternoon due to Hurricane Sandy. With 24 mile per hour winds causing havoc, the two teams managed to put on a thriller at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Instant analysis: St. Thomas Aquinas' workhorse running back, Fred Coppet, came to play. Coppet, who finished the game with 209 rushing yards on 24 carries, scored every touchdown for the Raiders on runs of 23 yards, Read more [...]

KOSNITZKY’S KORNER: Getting Ready: Cypress Bay at Miramar

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012
As this stage of the 2012 season, both teams have gone through changes.  While the Cypress Bay Lightning is 3-1 and opened their district season with a 28-10 victory over Flanagan last week, this is a team that has made adjustments to their offensive scheme.  Despite their successes and loss at home to St. Thomas Aquinas, some may say this team is still looking for a signature win.  Miramar Patriots, on the other hand, has gone through their own trials and tribulations this year. Like Cypress Read more [...]

KOSNITZKY’S KORNER: Getting Ready: Cypress Bay at Flanagan

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012
Both teams opened their 2012 district season with 2-1 records which may be misleading to some. Cypress Bay was dominant in their wins against Deerfield Beach (29-6) and South Broward (42-12), while losing at home to nationally prominent, St. Thomas Aquinas who they led near the midway point of the game two weeks ago. Flanagan shut out Pembroke Pines Charter (48-0) and beat and offense-minded Douglas team (42-36), only to lose to a solid Lakeland team on the road last week. Many believe District Read more [...]
