Should this 18 year old Soph be eligible by the school to participate in sports?

Tough scenario for the AD and Head Coach.

For me, the bigger picture for this student athlete may be focusing on academics and getting his life back together...yet would being able to play football assist him in the maturing process?

Unless the fhsaa gives him permission he would have to transfer out of state to keep playing

Weird situation though

Playing high school sports or any extracurricular activity at a school for that matter is a privilege not a right. Just like how kids can't go to dances or field trips.  If guilty, he did not live up to that privilege. You need to set a standard because it is very easy for kids to get a big head and feel they can get away with anything because they are more talented then others their age. Also, he is 18, which makes him old enough to understand what he is doing is wrong.  That in of itself shows he already has the entitlement of feeling he can get away with it anything or won't be punished. Kids make kid mistakes and they deserve second chances.  This 18 year old adult robbed an 11 year old child. Maybe down the line he learns and gets another chance, but he deserves this punishment right now.

Broward, as I posted elsewhere, this young man should probably go to an institution that focuses on: discipline, getting his academics in order, getting his life back in order. This young man seems to have already repeated grades twice. In addition, he and other youth held up a child and took his stuff.

At this stage, more importantly than football, he needs life intervention. For if he does not get this, any gains he has from playing high school ball and possibly college ball will most likely be squandered off the field. For you can have all the talent in the world, but if you lack maturity and discipline, you will surely waste it. He does not seem to be where he needs to be head wise at this  stage.I don't think giving him a pass to play his final school of high school football will necessarily encourage him to get his act together.

Agree. The only benefit football may have for him is it may reduce his chances of getting in trouble again.

If he doesn't get his act together quick, the streets will likely catch up to him.

Then again if he is found guilty, HS, College and football will more than likely be 100%done for him. A GED and assimilation to society would be the only hope.
