Another out of state opponent for the Stephenville Yellow Jackets in class 4A. This makes the 5th out of state game for the Jackets in 4 years. Last year, the week 1 game was against Anchorage South High (AK). They had issues with the heat! Stephenville cruised to a 43-0 win. The year before was against Prepa Tech (MX) 17-16 win for the Jackets and then Dillard High (FL) which the heat finally took a toal on the Panthers in the 4th quarter allowing the Jackets to pull away with a 46-32 win. What will tonight's game hold as they face Venice High (FL) which is a class 7A school in Florida? They get to experience what another solid Florida HS football program has to offer. Should be a good game as Stephenville has several young new players stepping up from a highly Sr. loaded team from last season. I'll try to update how the game plays out. Kickoff is tonight in Stephenville at 7:30!

Venice High has a pretty darn good football team. They lead Stephenville 30-0 at halftime. Second half was a much better half for the young Jackets. They held Venice to 7 pts and scored 8 pts. We heard Venice has approx. 2,200 students?! That's more than double the size of Stephenville High. Good experience though. Final score, 37-8 Venice.

      It would weed out the bad teams that are not championship material. The cream would rise to the top. So once the the teams ranked in the 400’s and 500’s were gone after the first round like they should be, it would start to get to the point only good teams are left. The last couple rounds would be the best of the best. One true state champion.    Watering down the classes and letting teams who normally would have no business winning a title advance further than they should is like letting a toddler hold a fake steering wheel and pretend he’s driving. It’s not real. And it doesn’t prepare the kids for real life. It makes them think they are better than they really are.

      Okay, how about that STA vs. Ida Baker matchup in your first round?  Does your analogy extend to South Florida slappies?  My opinion is simply that no one (except CoachGraham, apparently) would be interested in the 1 vs. 512, 2 vs. 511, and 200 other mismatches such a format would produce, regardless of geography.  But I could be wrong.  And now I'm thinking I should have skipped college.
