Q: When did the helmet project start?
A:
The helmet project for Florida, was originally started by Coach Jay Michael at Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers. He mainted the project up until December 2010, when he realized he needed to hand the project off to someone who could maintain it and keep it around. That is where FloridaHSFootball.com stepped in and took over the project to keep it going.
Q: How many helmets do you have?
A: We have somewhere close to 1,000 helmets or just slightly over that. This includes both current and historical helmets from across the state. Some of the helmets are from schools that are no longer FHSAA members or that have been closed or merged with other schools.
Q: My favorite team's helmet is not up-to-date. How can we can get you to update it?
A: This is a question that is likely to be asked by a lot of you all as sometimes teams change out helmet styles almost every year. What we will need is information about the helmet including a nice picture of the helmet up close as possible. We will also need a flat copy of the decal that can be scanned and sent to us. Sometimes we are able to take the necessary decal off a great picture, but that is few and far between and that is why we ask for a copy of the decal. Also we will need to know what colors the stripes are, if any are used.
Q: How can we get you this information?
A: You can email to us by clicking here.
Q: How long does it take you to create a helmet using the templates you have?
A: It usually can take 20 minutes depending on how everything is going for a helmet to be recreated. We want to make sure everything is right before we save it into the database.
Q: How can we view historical helmets?
A: You can view all historical helmets through each county page by going to the "Statewide County Map" link in the navigation menu on your left.
Q: Can we send you a color photo of a historical helmet?
A: Yes! We would love to have a copy of a color photo of a historical helmet. We go back as far as 1960 when it comes to recreating historical helmets. Before 1960 helmets were mostly plain and just boring helmets. After 1960 is when teams started to really customize their helmets to match their team. You can email those historical pictures to us by clicking here. |
