The first of the four football coaches to be inducted will be Bill Castle who just conclude a 52-year career at Lakeland in Polk County, with the last 47 of those years as head coach where he racked up 473 wins, which marks the most wins by any one coach in Florida history. It took Castle until his final season as head coach to eclipse the previous record of 466 wins over the late Corky Rogers of Bolles (Jacksonville). Castle came to Lakeland after following Paul Quinn after one season that he spent with Quinn at Columbia (Lake City). He took over as head coach in 1976 at Lakeland when Quinn departed for nearby Bartow as the school handed things over to Castle. Castle led Lakeland to eight state championship victories in 1986 (5A), 1996 (5A), 1999 (5A), 2004 (5A), 2005 (5A), 2006 (5A), 2018 (7A), and 2022 (4S). Between the 2004 and 2007 seasons, Castle guided Lakeland to a state-record 53 consecutive victories which broke the old one set by Union County (Lake Butler) with 52 victories between 1994 and 1997. Castle also claims two national championships to his record with those coming during the 53-game win streak in 2005 and 2006.

Castle will also be honored with the Dub Palmer Lifetime Achievement Award which is awarded to a retiring football coach who exemplified the same standards of excellence as Coach Dub Palmer did. Castle becomes the 18th different retiring football coach to receive the honor which includes the likes of Sam Budnky of Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach), Walt Frazier of Miami Carol City, George Smith of St. Thomas Aquinas, Paul Maechtle of Southeast (Bradenton), Joe Kinnan of Manatee (Bradenton), Corky Rogers of Bolles, and Bill Krammer of Naples, just to name a few that have the honored bestowed upon them.

Darrell Sutherland is the second of four head coaches to be named to the FACA Hall of Fame and the second of the coaches that retired during the 2024 season after building the Bartram Trail (St. Johns) program from the ground up the moment the school opened in 2000. During that time, Sutherland led Bartram Trail to 19 playoff appearances in 23 years as a head coach including four trips to the state semifinals in 2007, 2011, 2013, and 2017 with the 2017 team reaching the Class 7A state championship game where they finished as state runner-up to Venice that year. Sutherland led the Bears to 182 wins in the course of his tenure as head coach while being involved in numerous community activities while also having his school host as a practice site for the New England Patriots during Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville back in 2005. Sutherland’s team in 2007 was involved in helping raise money and visiting Barrow, Alaska the most northern point in the United States that has a high school football team in helping them install an artificial turf surface for Barrow High School to be able to play football games on with that story captured in the book Northern Lights by Cathy Parker who spearheaded the project.

The third football coach to get name names to the FACA Hall of Fame class is former head coach Yusuf Shakir who previously was the head coach at Manatee (Bradenton) between 2017 and 2020 along with stints at his alma mater in Tallahassee from 2009 until 2016 where he won a state title with the Trojans in 2010 in Class 4A. Shakir, who started his head coaching career at Gibbs in St. Petersburg where he spent two seasons in 2007 and 2008, was 110-59 in his coaching career including 71-32 at Lincoln, 29-16 at Manatee, and 10-11 at Gibbs.

The fourth and final football coach to be named to the FACA Hall of Fame class is Tim Tharp whose last stop was at Jupiter after five seasons between 2017 and 2021 where he led a rebuilding of the Warriors program where he eventually led Jupiter to their first winning season in quite a while in 2019 while finishing each of his three final seasons at Jupiter with no less than five wins each season. However, Tharp is more known for his time as the former head coach of Palm Beach Gardens High School where he led the Gators between 1998 and 2004 racking up a 56-20 record on the field. The 2004 team that was coached by Tharp set the nucleus for the 2005 team that would win the Class 6A state championship. Before Tharp arrived at Jupiter to mark his return as head coach, he spent time as the athletic director at South Fork in Stuart where and previously spent time at Vero Beach’s athletic director after he had left Palm Beach Gardens in early 2005.

Others selected to the FACA Hall of Fame class for 2024 include longtime softball coach and athletic director Larry Bishop who has been at Citrus (Inverness) for many years, Steve Lyons who has coached track and cross country at schools in the Jacksonville area including Bishop Kenny and Nease (Ponte Vedra), St. Thomas Aquinas girls volleyball coach Lisa Zielinski, and current Hagerty athletic director Jay Getty who also has coached track and cross country.

The 2024 FACA Hall of Induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Drury Plaza Resort at Disney Springs just southwest of Orlando.

TALLEY EARNS WINK BARNETTE AWARD HONORS

Current Duval County Public School athletic director Tammie Talley, who recently served as the first female president for the FACA Board of Directors for the 2021-2022 school year has been named the 2024 Wink Barnette Award winner.

The Wink Barnett Award was created in 2011 and named after former executive director Wallace “Wink” Barnette who served as Executive Director of the FACA for 32 years from 1978 until 2010, making him the longest executive director in FACA history. The Wink Barnette Award is given to those who possess the same qualities as Barnette did with longevity, service, and commitment to the FACA. Some of the past winners have included Jeff McLean from Merritt Island, Randy Bethel of Vero Beach and Sebastian River, and Mike Knowles from Manatee.

Talley will be honored with the Wink Barnett Award officially during the FACA Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Drury Plaza Resort at Disney Springs just southwest of Orlando.

This year’s FACA North-South All-Star Classic will be the last time that it will be held on the current campus of The Villages High School as the school will move into a brand new campus in the fall of 2023 roughly six miles south on County Road 470, west of the Florida Turnpike that will include a brand-new state of the art facility including field turf. The FACA North-South All-Star Classic will continue at the new campus in December 2023.

NORTH TEAM ROSTER

No. 1 CB Jonathan Akins, Madison County (Madison)
6-1, 170; Head Coach: Price Harris
Akins is a three-star prospect per 247Sports Composite rankings and is currently a Maryland commit. Adkins in games played this season recorded 22 tackles, 1 INT, 11 PBUs, and forced a fumble for the Cowboys while helping Madison County reach the Class 1R playoffs.

No. 2 DB Clint Thomas, Chiefland
6-2, 180; Head Coach: James Corbin
A lockdown corner, most teams avoided Thomas as he only had five tackles, one interception, and three PBUs on defense. He also had 31 carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns plus 38 receptions for 673 yards and seven touchdowns on offense while being instrumental in Chiefland’s playoff run in Class 1R.

No. 3 QB Nehemiah Vann, Seven Rivers Christian (Lecanto)
6-1, 185; Head Coach: Monty Vann
Vann, who is the son of head coach Monty Vann at Seven Rivers Christian, led them to the semifinals of the SSAC 5A playoffs this year, completing 123-of-241 passes for 1,845 yards and 27 touchdowns. Nehemiah also rushed for 607 yards on 106 carries and scored nine more touchdowns on the ground.

6-0, 174; Head Coach: Patrick Turner
In all 11 games Dumas played in for the Panthers this season, he racked up 17 tackles, eight interceptions, and 1 PBU in helping lead Palatka to the playoffs in Class 2S-Region 2.

No. 5 CB Vincent Brown Jr., Wildwood
5-7, 165: Head Coach: Vincent Brown Sr.
The son of Wildcats head coach, Vincent Brown Sr., the junior son had 43 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble in leading Wildwood to the regional semifinals in the Class 1R playoffs.

Smiley is an athlete that has played in multiple positions for the district champion Tornadoes this season in Class 2S-District 3 under Bay alum and head coach, Jeremy Brown. Smiley racked up 82 carries for 509 yards rushing and five touchdowns this season, plus had 15 receptions for 314 yards and a touchdown.

One of two players from Bartram Trail on the roster for the North, Stith racked up 32 total tackles, four tackles for loss three sacks, and an interception for the Bears that reached the Class 4S-Region 1 finals.

Stokes was an impressive standout on the field for the Gators that reached the Class 3S-Region 1 semifinals this season having 79 catches for 1,224 yards and seven touchdowns. Stokes had 1,532 all-purpose yards with 95 kick return yards and 200 punt return yards including two punt return touchdowns and one two-point conversion.

The safety had a solid year with 36 tackles, one tackle for loss, four interceptions, four pass breakups, and two forced fumbles as part of helping the Colts reach the Class 2S-Region 2 quarterfinals this season.

Robinson holds multiple Division I FBS offers from Group of Five programs including Appalachian State, Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, Tulane, and Toledo to name a few.

No. 12 RB Rhyder Poppell, Florida High (Tallahassee)
5-10, 205; Head Coach: Jarrod Hickman
The second leading rusher for the Class 2S state runner-up team, Poppell was instrumental in the charge to the state championship game for the Seminoles, having 112 carries for 1,002 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. For good measure, Poppell also had 19 catches for 319 yards and six touchdowns. Poppell is committed to The Citadel.

No. 13 P Jayden Milton, Lincoln (Tallahassee)
6-4, 195; Head Coach: Jimmie Tyson
As a punter, Milton handled it well for the Trojans in their playoff appearance in Class 3S-Region 1 this season averaging 35.4 yards per punt on 38 punts with nine of those punts falling inside the 20-yard line.

No. 14 WR Brooks Hickman, Florida High (Tallahassee)
5-10; 165; Head Coach: Jarrod Hickman
The son of head coach Jarrod Hickman and the grandson of North team coordinator Mike Hickman, Brooks is a third-generation North-South Classic All-Star player or coach, which is only happened twice in the 67 years this game has been played. Hickman was the Seminoles leading receiver in the Class 2S State runner-up finish finishing with 66 catches for 927 yards and seven touchdowns. Brooks also had nine carries for 124 yards rushing and two more touchdowns, plus had one passing touchdown.

No. 16 WR David Ramos, Lake Minneola (Minneola)
6-4, 210; Head Coach: Walter Banks
One of the top targets for the Class 4S-Region 2 finalists, Ramos excelled for the Hawks with 37 catches for 705 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

No. 17 K Reice Griffith, Pace
5-10, 165; Head Coach: Kent Smith
Griffith excelled as a kicker for the Regional Quarterfinalist Patriots in Class 4S-Region 1 as both a kicker and punter. As a kicker, he was 51-of-53 on point after tries and was 4-of-5 on field goals with his longest being from 49 yards. As a punter, Griffith averaged 42.9 yards per punt on 28 punts made during the season.

No. 18 QB Jamie Hampton, Madison County (Madison)
6-0, 185; Head Coach: Price Harris
Hampton is a dual-threat type quarterback who went 47-of-96 passing for 471 yards and a touchdown in 2022 plus had 760 yards rushing on 79 carries and four more touchdowns for the Cowboys in 2022.

No. 20 S Javarion “Jay” Smith, Suwanee (Live Oak)
5-10, 170; Head Coach: Kyler Hall
Smith was instrumental in leading the Bulldogs to the Class 2S-Region 1 finals this season as well as a district championship racking up 91 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one interception for the Bulldogs.

No. 21 RB Cam Smith, Baker County (Glen St. Mary)
5-8, 170; Head Coach: Kevin Mays
The leading rusher for the Class 2S-Region 2 finalists Wildcats, Smith was a force with 190 carries for 1,653 yards and 16 touchdowns. Smith also had 16 catches for 490 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

No. 22 RB Tre’ Jones, Chiles (Tallahassee)
5-10, 210; Head Coach: Kevin Pettis
The leading rusher for the Timberwolves, Jones has 179 carries this season for 1,511 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns while breaking numerous school records along the way. Jones also had nine catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns as well.

No. 24 DE Kameron Graham, Boone (Orlando)
6-4, 220; Head Coach: Andy Johnson
One of the top defensive linemen this season for the Braves, Graham was a key part to Boone winning a district championship and reaching the playoffs in Class 4M. During the season he racked up 62 total tackles, 21 TFL, three sacks, one PBU, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.

No. 25 LB Ashton Bracewell, Flagler Palm Coast
6-4, 215: Head Coach: Robert Paxia
Bracewell was an instrumental leader with 110 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, one sack, seven quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble for the Bulldogs who won a district championship and reached the playoffs this season in Class 4S-Region 1.

Corbin was instrumental in the defense for the Raiders that won a district championship and reached the Regional Final in Class 2S-Region 3 this season. For the season, Corbin had 78 total tackles, 20 TFL, six sacks, three pass breakups, and forced one fumble.

No. 33 LB Braden Sullivan, New Smyrna Beach
6-2, 225; Head Coach John Wilkinson
Sullivan led the Barracudas in tackles this season with 128 alongside having 16 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and forcing one fumble.

No. 34 LS Brock Walters, Winter Park

The leading snapper for the Wildcats, Walters has the ability to play along the offensive line at center and is able to snap the long balls needed for field goals, extra point attempts, and punts as needed.

No. 40 DE Charles Green III, Seminole (Sanford)
6-2, 250; Head Coach: Eric Lodge
One of the top defensive linemen for the Seminoles, Green has been known to get after it against opposing offensives with explosive play-making abilities and has been part of multiple playoff teams under head coach Eric Lodge.

No. 44 DT Rayqwon Smith, Chiles (Tallahassee)
6-2, 270; Head Coach: Kevin Pettis
A key part of the defense for the Timberwolves in 2022, Smith had 72 total tackles along with 13 TFL, six sacks, nine quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one blocked kick.

No. 45 DT Jacques Fenderson, Palatka
5-10, 270; Head Coach: Patrick Turner
The second Palatka athlete to grace the roster for the North team, Fenders racked up 43 tackles, 11 TFL, and three sacks, forcing one fumble, and recovering another fumble for the Panthers who reached the playoffs this season.

No. 57 OL Caleb Revis, The Villages
6-4, 255; Head Coach: Richard Pettus
One of the top linemen for the host school, The Villages, Revis stood out in a year when the Buffalo struggled with a young team and was looked up to as a leader.

No. 66 OL Ethan Newman, Navarre
6-3, 282; Head Coach: Jay Walls
Newman was one of the top offensive linemen for the Raiders that won the District 4S-1 championship this season and helped Navarre reach the Class 4S-Region 1 quarterfinals.

No. 70 OL Joseph Hanson, Niceville
6-5, 285; Head Coach: Grant Thompson
One of the top offensive linemen for the Eagles’ District 4S-2 championship-winning team this season. Hanson has narrowed down his choices with Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville State as his top two schools among the handful of Division I FBS offers he currently holds.

No. 73 OL/DL Brayden Ramey, Trinity Catholic (Ocala)
6-5, 290; Head Coach: John Brantley III
One of two offensive linemen from Trinity Catholic playing the game that was also part of the Celtics Class 1S state runner-up finish, Ramey has multiple Division I FBS offers with FIU and UAB looking to be his top two choices he is deciding from now. Ramey is a three-star prospect, according to 247 Sports composite rankings.

No. 74 OL Neville Brown, Evans (Orlando)
6-2, 300; Head Coach: Kenard Lang
A leader of the offensive line for the Trojans, Brown was instrumental in helping the offense with Evans having over 1,100 yards rushing during the season.

No. 75 OL/OC Trent Lovett, Chiles (Tallahassee)
6-3, 300; Head Coach: Kevin Pettis
Lovett is a very tall and strong offensive lineman that helped propel teammate Tre’ Jones to have a record-breaking season for the Timberwolves. Tennessee State and Middle Tennessee State are the top two schools right now that Lovett is considering.

No. 76 OL/DL Purnell Richardson, Sandalwood (Jacksonville)
6-3, 305; Head Coach: Adam Geis
Richardson has the flexibility to play on both sides of the ball but spent his senior season playing offensive guard and tackle for the Saints.

No. 77 OL Tommy Kinsler, Trinity Catholic
6-6, 300; Head Coach: John Brantley III
The second offensive lineman from the Celtics to be on the North team, Kinsler helped his offense along the way to a Class 1S state runner-up finish this season. A three-star prospect in the 247 Sports composite rankings, Kinsler is a Miami (FL) commit.

No. 82 TE Brady Nowlan, Nature Coast (Brooksville)
6-2, 210; Head Coach: Cory Johns
Nowlan was an instrumental part of the Sharks’ offensive line and helped them win a district championship in Class 2S-District 11. For the 2022 season, Nowlan had 15 receptions for 245 yards and two touchdowns.

HEAD COACH

Darrell Sutherland, Bartram Trail (St. Johns)
After 23 seasons as the only head coach for the Bartram Trail Bears, this will be the last game that Sutherland will coach as a high school football head coach. Sutherland is 187-119 overall as a head coach and led the Bears to the Class 7A state championship game in 2017 losing to Venice 37-24 in that game that was played at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

ASSISTANT COACHES

Chad Parker, Bartram Trail (St. Johns)
Parker has been assistant with Coach Sutherland at Bartram Trail and this will be his last official game representing the school as it was announced on Wednesday morning that Parker will become the new head coach at Fleming Island. Parker has been an assistant for the Bears for the last nine seasons.

Mike Bennett, Escambia (Pensacola)
A state championship-winning coach, Bennett is 1-1 in state championship games having won it in Class 3A at Pensacola High in 2009 and then leading Escambia to their first state championship game appearance in many years in 2019, losing to Miami Central in the Class 6A state championship game. Bennett is well known for his coaching career in the Pensacola area and has coached multiple athletes that he has sent on to college.

Robert Paxia, Flagler Palm Coast
Paxia is an alum of Flagler Palm Coast High and just finished up his second season as the head coach there, winning the Class 4S-District 4 championship this season. Paxia has had stops in Florida before returning home to the Bulldogs at Lake Gibson as well as Plant City.

John Brantley III, Trinity Catholic (Ocala)
A longtime coach in Florida, a state championship-winning quarterback that went on to play at the University of Florida, and is currently in his second stint as a head coach at Trinity Catholic. Brantley won the Class 2B State Championship in 2010 as a head coach and just had his team finish as the Class 1S State Runner-up this season. Another note about Brantley is that he played in the FACA North-South All-Star Classic in 1975. Brantley is an alumnus of Forest in Ocala where he played for the legendary late Brent Hall.

Eric Lodge, Seminole (Sanford)
Lodge just finished his seventh season at Seminole including his third as the head coach, Lodge led the Seminoles to a 12-0 season in 2020, leading them to a victory in the Class 8A State Championship, and has guided them to the playoff all three seasons he has been a head coach. Lodge hails from Okeechobee where he played high school football at.

Andy Johnson, Boone (Orlando)
Johnson is well known in the Orange County and Orlando area having been the head coach at Boone for a decade now prior to coming to Boone spent time at Freedom (Orlando) where he guided his team to multiple district championships and playoff berths including a district championship in 2022 in Class 4M.

NORTH TEAM COORDINATOR

Mike Hickman, Florida High (Tallahassee)
Hickman has been the North team coordinator for the FACA for the past 20 years and has been involved in the game as a head coach, serving as the North Head Coach in 2005 when he was the head coach at Florida High. His son Jarrod has played and coached in the game and now grandson Brooks will be participating in this year’s game.

This year’s FACA North-South All-Star Classic will be the last time that it will be held on the current campus of The Villages High School as the school will move into a brand new campus in the fall of 2023 roughly six miles south on County Road 470, west of the Florida Turnpike that will include a brand-new state of the art facility including field turf. The FACA North-South All-Star Classic will continue at the new campus in December 2023.

With that said, let’s take a look at this year’s South Team roster and coaching staff.

SOUTH TEAM ROSTER

No. 1 WR Eddie Bennett, Dunbar (Fort Myers)
5-10, 160; Head Coach: Sammy Brown
More of a defensive back that is playing wide receiver for this game, Bennett had 75 tackles, eight tackles for loss, one sack, five interceptions, five pass deflections, one fumble recovery, and two forced fumbles for the Tigers which reached the state semifinals for the first time ever in school history.

No. 2 WR Chauncy Cobb, Clewiston
5-6, 157; Head Coach: Pete Walker
Cobb who was the Tigers leading receiver this season is a three-star prospect per 247 Sports’ composite rankings for the 2023 Class. Currently, Cobb is an Arkansas State commit and played a little bit of everything this season including quarterback where he was 16-of-27 passing for 350 yards and four touchdowns, rushing for 1,246 yards on 118 carries and 14 touchdowns plus hauling in 16 catches for 115 yards while helping guide the Tigers to a District Championship in District 2S-14. Cobb also recorded 34 tackles on defense along with three interceptions.

No. 3 RB Luke Yoder, East Lake (Tarpon Springs)
5-11, 195; Head Coach: Bob Hudson
Yoder was an instrumental piece to the Eagles winning a district championship and leading them to the Class 4M-Region 2 finals this season. For his senior season, Yoder rushed for 1,673 yards on 171 carries, scoring 25 touchdowns in the process. He also had 17 catches for 199 yards and two touchdowns to add to his stats.

No. 4 RB Trequan Jones, Bartow
5-11, 170; Head Coach: Richard Tate
The leading rusher for the Yellow Jackets this season, Jones was a key part in helping Bartow reach the Class 4S-Region 2 quarterfinals.

No. 5 WR Michael Burgarelli, Okeechobee
5-10, 175; Head Coach: BJ Pryor
Burgarelli was one of the players that the Brahmans could rely on in a downtrodden year going 47-of-108 passing for 581 yards and a touchdown and carrying the ball 127 yards for 441 yards rushing along with seven touchdowns.

No. 6 WR Anthony Benjamin, Dunbar (Fort Myers)
5-9, 160; Head Coach: Sammy Brown
Benjamin was the leading receiver for the Tigers this year in reaching the Class 3S State Semifinals. Benjamin, who has several Division I FBS offers had 30 catches for 431 yards receiving and seven touchdowns.

No. 7 TE Nathan Carter, East Bay (Gibsonton)
6-2, 245; Head Coach: Mike Gottman
A do-everything athlete for the Indians, Carter went 55-of-95 passing for 1,022 yards and 14 touchdowns and 139 carries for 706 yards rushing and 12 more touchdowns while leading the Indians to a district championship this season.

No. 8 DB Terrel Redding, Winter Haven
6-0, 170; Head Coach: James Thomson
One of the leading defensive backs for the Blue Devils district championship season, Redding racked up 30 total tackles, three interceptions, and eight pass breakups.

No. 9 QB Ryan Anthony, Wellington
5-10, 170; Head Coach: Danny Mendoza
Anthony helped guide the Wolverines to the Class 4M-Region 3 playoffs this season, going 110-of-209 passing for 1,881 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for 1,084 yards on 122 carries for 13 more touchdowns.

No. 11 LB Tyler Blevins, Sebring
6-3, 190; Head Coach: LaVarr Scott
One of the leading tacklers for the Blue Streaks, Blevins had  90 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, two sacks, seven quarterback hurries, six pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and blocked two kicks. Blevins helped the Blue Streaks win the district 3S-11 championship as well.

No. 12 QB Trent Grotjan, Lake Wales
6-3, 190; Head Coach: Tavaris Johnson
A state championship-winning quarterback, guiding the Highlanders to the Class 3S State Championship going 123-of-206 passing for 2,358 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing 54 times for 327 yards and five more touchdowns. For good measure, Grotjan also is a punter, punting 37 times with an average of 43.3 yards per punt with 16 punts landing inside the 20-yard line.

No. 13 K Tyler Patterson, Fort Pierce Central
6-2, 195; Head Coach: Mike Watkins
Patterson a kicker and a punter for the Cobras averaged 56.7 yards per kickoff this season with 12 touchbacks and averaged 36.8 yards per punt on 30 punts. His longest was 37 yards this season. Patterson currently has some interest in a few Division I FBS programs.

No. 16 RB Kirby Vorhees, Steinbrenner (Lutz)
5-10, 195: Head Coach: Andres Perez-Reinaldo
Vorhees was one player most coaches in the Tampa Bay area did not want to face as he led the Warriors with 1,015 yards rushing on 147 carries, scoring nine touchdowns plus added 28 catches for 309 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Vorhees finished his senior season with 1,654 all-purpose yards including 307 kickoff return yards and 23 punt return yards along with a kickoff return touchdown. Vorhees has some interest from a few programs with his biggest offer at the moment coming from Bowling Green.

No. 17 P Rocco D’Angelo, Barron Collier (Naples)
6-0, 160; Head Coach: Mark Jackson
D’Angelo averaged 45.7 yards per punt on 21 punts during the 2022 season and also did kicking duties as well, averaging 54 yards per kickoff with 18 touchbacks on 31 kickoffs. He was also 27-of-28 on point after tries and was 3-of-6 on field goals with his longest coming from 25 yards out.

No. 18 S Phineas Allen, Rockledge
5-11, 180; Head Coach: Wayne Younger
Allen, an Army West Point commit, racked up 77 tackles, a sack, one interception, one pass deflection, one fumble recovery, and forcing a fumble while leading the Raiders to a district championship and to the Class 3S-Region 3 semifinals this season.

No. 20 S Evan Aikens, St. Petersburg
6-1, 165; Head Coach: Denis Gillen
Aikens racked up 49 tackles, four interceptions, and two pass deflections as a key part of helping the Green Devils reach the Class 3M-Region 2 quarterfinals this season.

No. 22 S Ricky Shaw, Largo
5-11, 175; Head Coach: Marcus Paschal
Shaw was a key piece of the Packers’ defense this season in reaching the Class 3M-Region 2 playoffs with 72 total tackles, five interceptions, five pass deflections, one fumble recovery, forcing two fumbles, and blocking one punt.

No. 24 LB Thomas Johnson, Palmetto
5-11, 175; Head Coach: Dave Marino
One of the Tigers’ leading tacklers in leading them to a district championship, Johnson racked up 76 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, one interception, three pass deflections, and forced a fumble.

No. 25 LB Zayvion McCluster, Largo
6-1, 205; Head Coach: Marcus Paschal
The leading tackler for the Packers this season in their playoff run in Class 3M-Region 2 had 117 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, one sack one interception, breaking up five passes, forcing two fumbles, recovering one fumble, and blocking a punt. McCluster is committed to Campbell.

No. 32 DE Kadin Baker, Sebring

Baker was an anchor to the Blue Streaks’ defensive line, collecting 40 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, five sacks, 19 quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery, and two forced fumbles for the district champion Blue Streaks.

6-0, 225; Head Coach: Joshua Smithers
Abner was one of the leading defensive linemen for the Rams that reached the Class 4S-Region 4 finals after having a sluggish regular season in 2022.

No. 34 LB Jeremy Greaves Jr., Clewiston
6-1, 225; Head Coach: Pete Walker
The leading tackler this season for Clewiston, Greaves racked up 103 total tackles, and 13 sacks, forcing one fumble and blocking three kicks while helping the Tigers win the Class 2S-District 14 championship.

No. 40 DE Terrell James, Lake Wales
6-4, 230; Head Coach: Tavaris Johnson
James, an Arkansas State commit and a 247 Sports Composite three-star player, is one of several defensive players with over 100 tackles for Lake Wales, James racked up 108 tackles with 58 tackles for loss, 29 sacks, 16 quarterback hurries, two pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles in helping lead Lake Wales to the Class 3S State Championship.

A 247 Sports Composite three-star prospect who is committed to FIU, Buchanon was one of the leading linemen for the Lightning in leading them to a district championship and playoff appearance in Class 4S-Region 4 this season.

A leading offensive lineman for the Braves that reached the Class 4S-Region 2 quarterfinals this season under first-year head coach Rich Pringle.

Another quality lineman who was a part of the Marauders’ Class 1M state runner-up finish this season.

No. 82 LS Wesley Choate, Manatee (Bradenton)
5-10, 210; Head Coach: Jacquez Green
A rated long snapper by Kohl’s kicking, Choate has been impressive with his skills as a long snapper for the Hurricanes that reached the Class 4S-Region 4 playoffs this season.

HEAD COACH

Pete Walker, Clewiston
With a record of 192-70 as head coach, Walker has been a coach in Florida for over 30 years including winning three state championships with Glades Day as well as coaching one of the top running backs in the state and nation in 2010 in the name Kelvin Taylor. Walker is a former high school football player, having played at Clewiston under Al Morrell. Walker is also currently the athletic directory as well and has held both positions as athletic director and head football coach at Clewiston since the 2013 season. Walker is the nephew of assistant coach Kenny Buckner of Okeechobee.

ASSISTANT COACHES

Eric Green, Clewiston
The right-hand man to Head Coach Pete Walker, Green has been an instrumental part in the success of Clewiston since returning to the community after playing at Virginia Tech for college and being a third-round NFL draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2005. Green was awarded All-State honors in his senior year at Clewiston.

James Delgado, Immokalee
A longtime coach in Florida and a product of Apopka High, Delgado has been involved in three state championship-winning seasons as a player and coach having won a state championship with Apopka in 2001 as an athlete, plus as an assistant coach on the 2012 and 2014 teams that won the Class 8A state championships those years. Delgado spent several years at Riverdale in Fort Myers before becoming head coach at Immokalee this season, leading a quick turnaround of the Indians and having them in contention for a potential playoff berth.

Irvin Jones, Treasure Coast (Port St. Lucie)
The longest-tenured head coach along the Treasure Coast region, Jones has been instrumental in leading his Titans program to great heights that included the team’s first-ever state semifinal berth in program history in the 2021 season. Jones has sent multiple athletes off to the college ranks in his tenure as a head coach and has sent multiple athletes to play in the FACA North-South All-Star Classic.

Matt Kitchie, Lennard (Ruskin)
A graduate of Southeast High in Bradenton, Kitchie is more known for his time as a head coach in Hillsborough County at Leto and then at Ruskin guiding them already to several playoff berths since taking over as head coach back in 2017. Kitchie also spent time as the head coach at Land O’ Lakes as well in the late 2000s.

Brett Timmons, Southeast (Bradenton)
Another product of Southeast High, Timmons has been leading his alma mater as the head coach since 2017 and prior to that was the head coach at Out-of-Door in Sarasota. Timmons played under the legendary Paul Maechtle and was part of the state championship-winning teams at Southeast in the 1993 and 1994 seasons.

Kenny Buckner, Okeechobee
Buckner has been involved in high school athletics in Florida for over 40 years, Buckner has been involved in many different aspects including being an assistant coach with his nephew, Pete Walker at Glades Day where multiple state championships were won at. Buckner has also previously served as the head coach at Okeechobee and is currently the athletic director for the Brahmans.

SOUTH TEAM COORDINATOR

Tim Tharp, Jupiter
A now-retired coach and athletic administrator, Tharp took over as the South team coordinator this year following Joe Hampton’s retirement from coordinating the team. Tharp spent 36 years between the classroom and sidelines and spent five seasons at Jupiter after serving as athletic director at South Fork High in Stuart. Tharp also served as the head coach at Palm Beach Gardens from 1998 until 2005 where he held a 56-20 record. Tharp currently works with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
