PLANTATION, Fla. – After traveling out of state in Week 1, the American Heritage Patriots (2-0) played host to the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen (0-1), who traveled from New Jersey. The 1,200 miles that the Ironmen traveled did not pay off as they will return home after a 21-0 loss at the hands of the Patriots.

THE INFO: American Heritage received the opening kickoff, but was unable to do much on their opening drive. Quarterback Jason Brown faced serious pressure in the pocket and the Patriots were forced to punt the ball away on a three and out.

The Ironmen special teams lived up to their name when they blocked the Patriots’ punt attempt and recovered the ball deep in enemy territory. Despite their field position, Don Bosco failed to put points on the board on their opening drive.

Later in the first, Brown cut outside on a run play and won the footrace to the end zone to put his Patriots on the board at 4:13, 7-0.

The Ironmen threatened to score late in the second quarter but were forced to settle for a field goal attempt. The American Heritage special teams got to the kicker before he could put the ball through the uprights and blocked the attempt.

The Patriots took over on the 20-yard line, but quick pick ups to Dontavius Butler and Miles, Jones plus a 30-yard pass to Anthony Schwartz for a key third down conversion, set up American Heritage in the red zone.

PHOTO GALLERY: Get a look at some of the action in photos from the game

Brown threw towards the end zone two plays later, eyeing a receiver making a cut, but Don Bosco safety Kevin Brennan read him and intercepted the pass. With the interception, the Patriots’ threat was eliminated and the half drew to a close.

With under a minute remaining in the third quarter, the Patriots put some distance between them and the Ironmen when Laress Nelson scored on a sweep play that went for 40 yards to put the Patriots ahead 14-0.

In the fourth quarter, Don Bosco’s Wankeith Akin Jr. got the better of Brown when he intercepted him on a comeback route. However, the Ironmen blew their opportunity to cut the game to just one score when they fumbled on their next rushing attempt.

Abraham Alce, the Patriots’ workhorse in the backfield, found the end zone on the ground near the end of the game to put American Heritage up 21-0.

KEY PLAY OF THE GAME: Just before the start of the fourth quarter, Patriots receiver Miles Jones broke off a 38-yard run that pushed American Heritage into Ironmen territory. In a position to score, Brown found Nelson for a short pass on a sweep play to widen the gap between the two teams and put the pressure on the Ironmen defense in the fourth.

STAR OF THE GAME: Laress Nelson stood out on the Patriots offense in tonight’s shutout of Don Bosco. Brown repeatedly found Nelson outside on short screen passes that Nelson was able to turn into big gains for the Patriots.

Apart from leading his team in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns tonight, Nelson also made an impact on special teams, returning kicks with Miles Jones.

DID YOU KNOW: Heading into tonight’s game, the Don Bosco Ironmen were ranked #21 in the nation per the USA Today Super 25. With the shutout on the road, the Ironmen are likely to fall out of the list. On the other hand, American Heritage may have earned back their spot in the Super 25. Preseason, the Patriots were ranked #6 before dropping out after a preseason loss at the hands of Booker T. Washington. They have since defeated Colquitt County (GA) and Don Bosco Prep (NJ).

QUOTABLE: “This shows what kind of team we have, I wouldn’t have made our schedule this way if I didn’t feel we had a team that could compete with the best,” American Heritage head coach Patrick Surtain said. “Obviously, Don Bosco is a storied program, they have great tradition and are a hell of a football team. We came in and played our brand of football and if we come in and do that each and every week, then we’re going to be successful.”

WHAT’S NEXT: Up next for the Ironmen is another out of state road game, this one against St. Joseph’s Prep (1-0) in Pennsylvania. As for American Heritage, they will travel to Miami next week to take on Miami Northwestern (2-0), who are fresh off a win on the road over Columbus.

WINTER PARK, Fla. — For the first time since 2004, the Lake Howell Silver Hawks start the season off (2-0) as they came out on top 34-20 at home over the Space Coast Vipers (1-1). After starting off slow, even being down as many as 11 points in the second quarter, Silver Hawk quarterback Cody Veal led his team to complete the come-from-behind victory to start the season off unbeaten.

THE INFO: It was a messy first half as the rain came down and delayed the starting time back 20 minutes. The field was muddy, the ball was slippery and the weather was impacting both teams.

The Vipers were first to strike sending the ball through the uprights for a 23-yard field goal from junior Luke Galloway giving Space Coast an early 3-0 lead. Nearly fumbling the ball on the kickoff, Lake Howell drove the ball down the field. Three straight passing plays, Cody Veal connected with Clayton Ross setting the Silver Hawks up for what should have been a scoring drive. At the two-yard line, Lake Howell coughed up the ball and the Vipers jumped back on offense.

Minutes later, the Silver Hawks’ Brandon Browning picked off Space Coast quarterback Bradley Cantrell. A high snap that forced the offense backwards and a penalty, the Silver Hawks were forced to punt. On second down for Space Coast, running back Johnny Jones put the metal to the pedal breaking free for a 50-yard touchdown at the 9:22 mark of the second quarter giving Space Coast a 10-0 lead over Lake Howell.

Tyson Stephenson of Lake Howell ran his way into the red zone which led to a Veal touchdown pass to DeAndre Gordan, putting the Silver Hawks within four, 10-6, after failing to convert the two-point conversion, with just under five minutes left in the first half.

Space Coast wasn’t impressed and Connor Perrine ran the kickoff the return all the way home, stealing the momentum from Lake Howell. The Viper defense forced the Silver Hawks to punt, but the offense let go of the pigskin giving Lake Howell perfect field position on the 26-yard line, nearing halftime. Veal threw the ball 14 yards into the hands of the Wisdom Jenkins for a score and entering halftime, Space Coast only led by five, 17-12.

PHOTO GALLERY: Check out the photos from the action between Space Coast and Lake Howell

Both teams were forced to punt to start off the third quarter, but due to a poor snap, the Silver Hawks were able to sack the punter who was forced to scramble in the backfield. Stephenson rushed to the 12-yard line which set up another touchdown pass for Cody Veal; this time to Cody Ross. After the two-point conversion, Lake Howell took their first lead of the game, 20-17 at the end of the third quarter.

Things started to flow for the Silver Hawks in the fourth quarter. Turnover on downs by Space Coast, Veal stepped back on the field up three with ten minutes left in the game. The senior threw a short pass to Kenyonta Skinner who ran free for a 46-yard touchdown extending the lead to ten points, 27-17 over Space Coast.

However, Space Coast responded driving the ball down the field. Although unable to reach the end zone, Galloway sent another field goal through the uprights. The Silver Hawks led 27-20 with only 6:30 remaining in the game.

KEY PLAY OF THE GAME: Cody Veal drove the ball down the field using a huge amount of the time left in the game. Facing 2nd and 24 on the Vipers’ 27-yard line, Veal let Stephenson run again rushing back to back times. The second time was good enough for an 11 yard rushing touchdown giving the Silver Hawks a two-touchdown lead, 34-20 over Space Coast. During that drive, the Silver Hawks went nearly 75 yards and were able to eat up almost four minutes of the game. The touchdown from Stephenson was the nail in the coffin as Space Coast was unable to score in the final minutes of the game. Lake Howell was able to dig deep and come back to win 34-20 over Space Coast.

STAR OF THE GAME: Senior quarterback Cody Veal is the star of the game. Veal threw for over 150 yards and four touchdowns– each touchdown was to a different receiver so he shared the love in addition to putting points on the board.

DID YOU KNOW: Last season, the Lake Howell Silver Hawks went (1-9) and over the past years, they have gone (2-18). Things are looking bright for head coach David Wensyel and company as this is the first season in over 12 years that Lake Howell is starting off (2-0). In addition to the strong start, this was a revenge game for the Silver Hawks as last year, Space Coast escaped at home 10-7. Clearly, things were different this time around as Lake Howell won by two touchdowns.

QUOTABLE: “It was amazing. This is the first time since 2004 that Lake Howell went (2-0) and it’s all on the kids. They worked their tails off and they want to be the change to the program and wants to be the team that comes in and does good things here. We made plays at the end of the game when we had to. I think this win means everything for the team, now the kids believe in each other and know what they are capable of and that’s big,” said Lake Howell head coach David Wensyel after the game.

WHAT’S NEXT: Next week, Lake Howell (2-0) hosts Winter Springs (1-1), a team that suffered a blowout loss, 41-18 on the road against Hagerty. As for the Space Coast (1-1), the Vipers host the St. Cloud Bulldogs (1-0), a team whose week two matchup against East Ridge was cancelled due to Hurricane Hermine.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.— After picking up an offer from Notre Dame earlier in the week, Kevin Austin had to keep the momentum rolling on Friday night.

The North Broward Prep four-star receiver had five catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns as he helped the Eagles cruise to a 33-0 victory over Coral Springs Charter on the road. North Broward picks up their second district victory, improving to 2-0 on the early campaign.

“Kevin is a special young man,” North Broward Prep head coach Rex Nottage said after the game. “He’s a playmaker, that’s why he’s got all these offers because he definitely sets the tone for us. He is a very, very special young man, and he is humble. He is a great kid.”

With just over three minutes left in the half, the Eagles faced a crucial third-and-10 from the Coral Springs Charter 43-yard line. But North Broward came through. Shooster hit Kevin Austin on a crossing route and Austin blew by Panthers’ defenders for a touchdown that put the Eagles up 12-0 late in the first half. The play not only made it a two score game, but also was a big momentum booster for North Broward heading into halftime.

“Offense was a big issue for us tonight,” Nottage said. “It’s the momentum that carried us into the second half that last touchdown before the half was big for us, especially going into the break. We were feeling more confident in what we can possibly do.”

North Broward’s defense wasn’t its strong suit in 2015, but so far in 2016 the unit has been dominant. Following a dominant effort in which they held Pembroke Pines Charter to just 18 points last week, the Eagles defense held Coral Springs Charter scoreless, picked off two passes, and forced three turnovers in the victory.

“Awesome. Awesome! That’s all I can say,” Nottage said about the defense’s performance. “They kept us in the game. I think we caused four or five turnovers that gave us great field position, and I tip my hat off to Coach Sedeno who did a great job calling the defensive plays tonight. The boys really played their hearts out on defense. I’m really proud of the young men.”

Although the Eagles came home victorious comfortably, it sure wasn’t as pretty as they hoped. North Broward’s usually electric offense was held to just twelve points in the first half. The Eagles also committed nine penalties for 100 yards, eight of which were committed by the offensive line. Furthermore, North Broward started four drives inside the Coral Springs Charter 40-yard line and capitalized on just one of them. It could’ve been a case of playing down to your opponent.

“We left quite a few points on the board tonight,” Nottage said. “We got to go back to the drawing board on Monday and get prepared for Inlet Grove. We made a lot of mistakes tonight.”

Austin now has a total of 272 receiving yards on the season after 140 yards in last week’s win. That leads the Gold Coast conference for the junior wide out that has offers from Notre Dame, Miami (FL), Michigan State, North Carolina, and Tennessee among 19 others.

After an Anthony Gomez interception early in the third quarter, Dymitri McKenzie caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Logan Shooster to give North Broward a 20-0 lead as the Eagles began to pull away. Senior running back Dorian Cole would later dash in for a 20-yard score to push the lead to 26-0 heading into the fourth. North Broward would add another score on a Jason Vest one-yard plunge en route to victory.

North Broward’s special teams will have to improve if they hope to reach their goal of a championship this season. The Eagles were 1-for-4 on extra point attempts, botched a snap on a punt, and led up close to 100 yards in kickoff returns.

“I really concerned with our special teams,” Nottage said. “We need to be better in that are and that’s something we’re going to work on.”

Logan Shooster played well in his second career start at quarterback for North Broward. Shooster was 9-for-19 for 190 yards and three touchdowns. Shooster – who also plays cornerback for the Eagles – also had two interceptions on defense.

Senior WR/CB Anthony Gomez also had himself a nice game with four receptions for 47 receiving yards, and added an interception on defense for the Eagles. Senior running back Dymitri McKenzie also pitched 45 rushing yards, 11 receiving yards and a touchdown.

WHAT’S NEXT: North Broward Prep will hit the road again next week for a district clash with Inlet Grove next Friday night at 7:00 P.M. E.T. Coral Springs Charter will host Pembroke Pines Charter next Friday at home, with both teams seeking for their first win of the season.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – For the first time in school history, the Coral Glades Jaguars are 2-0. Although they faced much more adversity in tonight’s 34-24 victory over Pompano Beach (0-2) than last week’s game against Inlet Grove, the Jaguars are undoubtedly turning heads early in the 2016 season.

THE INFO: After Pompano received the opening kickoff, John Padgett found a hole in the Coral Glades defense, and went 60 yards upfield to put his team up just over a minute into the game.

On the Golden Tornadoes’ next possession, they failed to convert and were forced to punt. With Pompano Beach special teams players watching the ball roll past their own 40-yard line following the punt, the Jaguars’ Samuel Oshodi scooped up the ball and returned it for a touchdown to tie up the game.

Late in the first quarter, Coral Glades quarterback Cameron Brooks dropped back in the pocket and launched the ball over the middle of the field. Padgett, who plays both ways, leaped up to intercept Brooks’ pass attempt and ran the ball back to put the Golden Tornadoes in front, 14-7.

Following a failed Pompano Beach punt attempt, Coral Glades took possession late in the second quarter. Key gains on the ground set up the Jaguars inside the 10-yard line. Dion Gonzalez-Laporte broke the plane on a run up the middle to put Coral Glades ahead 21-14 at the half.

PHOTO GALLERY: Check out all the photos from the game here

Just when it appeared that the Jaguars were going to put away the Golden Tornadoes, Jeffrey Clinton fumbled the ball on the 3-yard line on a rushing attempt that would have put Coral Glades up 10 points.

Instead of a double-digit deficit, Pompano Beach took the lead on the very next play when Padgett broke off an 80-yard run, to make the score 24-21 in favor of the Golden Tornadoes.

Down 24-17, Donovan Samuels set up the Jaguars in good field position to tie up the game. Coral Glades played smash mouth football the entire drive down the field. From the 1-yard line, Gonzalez-Laporte found the end zone, and the game was knotted up at 24.

On the ensuing drive, Logan Good, the Pompano Beach quarterback, threw an interception to the Jaguars’ Shannon Bent. After unsuccessful attempts to run up the middle, Coral Glades was forced to attempt a field goal.

Junior Noah Baratta walked out on the field with the fate of the game on the tip of his cleat. His kick split the uprights at 1:40 in the fourth, and the Jaguars took the lead, 27-24.

With the clock ticking, Good threw another interception to Bent, sealing the game. Brooks scored on a quarterback sneak to extend the lead to 10, 34-24, with just seconds remaining, but the damage had been done by the field goal.

KEY PLAY OF THE GAME: Late in the fourth quarter with the game tied at 27, Logan Good faked a handoff to his running back and fired a pass towards the middle of the field. Only his intended receiver did not come down with it; the Jaguars’ defensive back, Bent, came down with the ball and returned it deep into Pompano Beach territory.

This play prevented a driving Golden Tornado offense from extending their drive, especially when the Jaguars had no answer for Padgett all night.

STAR OF THE GAME I: Shannon Bent’s contribution to the win tonight cannot be overstated. He had both the interception that allowed Coral Glades to take the lead and the interception that prevented any chance of the Golden Tornadoes mounting a comeback.

Apart from his effort on defense, Bent also picked up key gains on the ground on offense in the first half that set up a Jaguars’ touchdown.

STAR OF THE GAME II: Even though Pompano Beach came away with a loss tonight, John Padgett made a statement. The junior came down with two interceptions tonight, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, he was even more impressive. With just seven carries, Padgett amassed 192 yards on the ground, and two touchdowns.

QUOTABLE: “We don’t give up,” Coral Glades Head Coach Christian Baldwin said. “We stuck our heads in there and kept on fighting each and every down, and I’m very proud of our boys.”

WHAT’S NEXT: Next week, the Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes return home to play host to the Key West Conchs (1-0). As for the Jaguars, they travel to Southwest Ranches to take on the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks (0-1), the defending Gold Coast Conference Champions.

MIAMI, Fla. – The week two edition of Thursday Night Football, was a nail bitter between the Columbus Explorers (1-1) and Northwestern Bulls (2-0). These two teams went back and forth all game long until the Bulls finally came away with the 19-14 victory.

THE INFO: The Explorers for the second straight week started off the game with a quick touchdown as Marcelo Rodriguez found Darren Davis Jr. in a half back screen for an 82-yard touchdown reception early in the first quarter.

Chatarois “Tutu” Atwell and the Bulls offense came out looking to be dominant in the running game as Kai Henry had over seven carries on the first drive alone. The drive came to a close in the red zone when the Explorers stopped down on fourth and goal.

Rodriguez and the Explorer’s offense then took over their next two drives inside their own five-yard line, but couldn’t get anything going as Northwestern started blitzing on Rodriguez.

With a little less than eight minutes left in the first half, Atwell started using his speed and agility to create plays which Columbus did not have an answer for.

Atwell’s speed would eventually lead the Bulls into Explorer territory and capped off the drive with a nine-yard touchdown run tying the game at 7-7 nearing halftime.

A late last second drive by the Explorers fell short at the half expired.

On the first play of the second half, Columbus capitalized quickly as CB Trajan Brandy read the bubble screen coming from the Bulls forcing a hit on Andre Adams who in turn fumbled the ball.

Safety Austin Chacon recovered the fumbled ball at the Bulls 21-yard line which then, in turn, lead to a touchdown pass from Rodriguez to receiver Tyler Harrell from 21-yards out to take a 14-7 lead early in the third quarter.

However, Columbus’ hopes of putting away the Bulls were dashed in the fourth quarter.

With the Bulls defense blitzing, Rodriguez fumbled the ball on a hit allowing Northwestern’s Samuel Brooks Jr. recovering the fumble and returning it 52-yards for a 19-14 lead

The Explorer had a couple of more chances towards the end of the game to win with, but with second left on the clock, Rodriguez threw the ball into the end zone where the Bulls picked it off for a 19-14 victory.

KEY PLAY OF THE GAME: The Bulls had a great blitz causing Rodriguez to fumble with Northwestern’s Samuel Brooks Jr. picking up the fumble to return for 52-yards to give the Bulls a 19-14 lead.

STAR OF THE GAME: Bulls Running Back Kai Henry had 22 carries for 150 yards. Henry did not score any touchdowns as he was stopped at the goal line three times by the Explorers but he constantly led the offense down the field and got them in good field range.

DID YOU KNOW: University of Miami head coach Mark Richt and 1uarterback Brad Kaaya made an appearance at the game to see some potential future Hurricanes prospects.
WHAT’S NEXT: The Explorers will face off against rival Miami Southridge, in what could be a clash of the titans, on Friday, Sept. 9 at Tropical Park.

It is Week 2 in Florida and there is another slate of great games on the list and once again it was hard to choose just ten games. Here is our Top 10 games of the week for Florida.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Due to the impending effects of Hurricane Hermine, some of these games have the potential either being rescheduled or canceled. Please continue to check the FloridaHSFootball.com Forums thread for the latest updates over the next 48 hours. A strikethrough on a game means it has been canceled for this week.

1. Cocoa (1-0) at Bishop Gorman, Nev. (1-0)
Last Week: Cocoa defeated Jacksonville Trinity Christian 26-23; Bishop Gorman defeated Cedar Hill, Texas, 44-14
When: Friday, 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. MT
Where: Fertitta Field, Las Vegas, Nev.
Why: A national spotlight game this week after Cocoa knocked off Trinity Christian at home on ESPN2, while Bishop Gorman literally dropped one of the best teams in Texas in Cedar Hill on ESPN2 just two days prior. Watch for Tigers QB Bruce Judson (171 passing, 91 rushing, 2 total TDs last week) and Gales RB Biaggio Ali-Walsh (200 rushing, 2 TDs) to be the biggest starts and threats to each team’s chances of winning this week.
Predictions
Josh’s Prediction: Bishop Gorman 38, Cocoa 10
USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor: Bishop Gorman 47, Cocoa 12
Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: Bishop Gorman 21 over Cocoa

2. Don Bosco, N.J. (0-0) at Plantation American Heritage (1-0)
Last Week:This is Don Bosco’s Season opener; Plantation American Heritage defeated Colquitt County, Ga. 17-14
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m. ET
Where: Heritage Field, Plantation
Why: Consider this another national spotlight game despite the fact it won’t be on television. Anytime you play a nationally relevant team you have to be ready for them and that is the case here for American Heritage with Don Bosco. A player to keep an eye on for American Heritage is QB Jason Brown who threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns last week at Colquitt County. Brown also had 80 yards rushing. The only thing the Patriots don’t want to repeat is a one-point home loss like they did last year to DeMatha, Md.
Predictions
Josh’s Prediction: American Heritage 24, Don Bosco 17
USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor: Don Bosco, 28, American Heritage 14
Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: American Heritage 5 over Don Bosco

3. Mainland (1-0) at Bartram Trail (1-0)
Last Week: Mainland defeated DeLand, 35-0; Bartram Trail defeated Bishop Kenny, 34-14
When: Monday, 6:00 p.m. ET
Where: Bear Stadium, Fruit Cove
Why: This has been an anticipated match-up ever since the Buccaneers defeated the Bears 56-24 in Daytona Beach this year. However, this year the Bears get to host and they are a much improved team, while the Buccaneers reload the roster. Expect Mainland to be balanced on offense with QB Denzel Houston and C.J. Wilson taking on the majority of the load, while the Buccaneer defense figures out how to put brakes on the Bears’ rushing game that was highly effective last week against Bishop Kenny that saw the three potential DI quarterbacks on the roster not take attempts at very many passes.
Predictions
Josh’s Prediction: Mainland 38, Bartram Trail 27
USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor: Mainland 38, Bartram Trail 14
Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: Mainland 17 over Bartram Trail

4. St. Thomas Aquinas (0-1) at Miramar (1-0)
Last Week:St. Thomas Aquinas was defeated by Booker T. Washington, 27-23; Miramar defeated Mater Academy, 28-7
When:Friday, 7:00 p.m. ET
Where: Branca Stadium, Miramar
Why: St. Thomas Aquinas is looking to forget about last week’s loss to Booker T. Washington that ultimately cost them a shot at the national championship this season. Miramar enters the game defeating what was expected to be a solid Mater Academy team that had picked up a ton of transfers during the off-season. Given the nature of this highly heated Broward County rivalry, expect anything to happen in this game.
Predictions:
Josh’s Prediction: St. Thomas Aquinas 24, Miramar 21
USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor: St. Thomas Aquinas 33, Miramar 7
Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: St. Thomas Aquinas 17 over Miramar

5. Raines (1-0) at Wakulla (1-0)
Last Week: Raines defeated Robert E. Lee 32-28; Wakulla defeated Trenton, 16-0
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m. ET
Where: J.D. Jones Stadium at Jerry Reynolds Field, Crawfordville
Why: A solid match-up of two state runner-ups from last season that still have some talent left on the roster. Last week Raines had to fend off a much improved Robert E. Lee team at home while Wakulla had Trenton rounded up and shutout without much issue. Neither team last week was given a lot of hope to win their games, but now with both 1-0 coming into this game, someone will have to walk away with a loss this early in the season. Expect defense to likely rule the day for both teams with the score being close.
Predictions:
Josh’s Prediction: Raines 28, Wakulla 27
USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor: Wakulla 27, Raines 20
Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: Raines 3 over Wakulla

6. Escambia (0-1) at Niceville (1-0)
Last Week: Escambia was defeated by West Florida, 28-27; Niceville defeated Lincoln, 30-20
When: Friday, 7:00 p.m. CT
Where: Eagles Stadium, Niceville
Why: Considering this game last year ended in a road loss for Niceville, there is nothing to chance on this game this year. The Eagles, however, do want revenge on the Gators. Last week some miscues by Escambia cost them the game against West Florida, while the Eagles held off a late surge by Lincoln. Watch out for RB Jordan Tinder for Niceville who rushed for 122 last week and a touchdown, while keeping an eye out for the duo of Steven McGhee and Ray Samuel who both showed flashes of speed for Escambia last week.
Predictions:
Josh’s Prediction: Niceville 28, Escambia 21
USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor:Niceville 27, Escambia 14
Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: Niceville 3 over Escambia

<del>7. Camden County, Ga. (0-2) at Columbia (1-0)</del>
<del> Last Week: Camden County was defeated by Venice, 46-17; Columbia defeated Gainesville, 17-12</del>
<del> When: Friday, 7:30 p.m. ET</del>
<del> Where: Tiger Stadium, Lake City</del>
<del> Why: This marks the third game of a three-game road trip in Florida for the Camden County Wildcats. The Wildcats which have so far been defeated by Oakleaf and Venice are looking to salvage the trip against Columbia. However, Columbia has been known to apply a ton of pressure at home against opponents, making the crowd noise hard to escape. Columbia will have to be prepared for an upset and hungry Camden County team that would like to get their first win of the season on the board and after the dismal performance last week at Gainesville, the Tigers will have to be ready for anything and everything.</del>
<del> Predictions: </del>
<del> Josh’s Prediction: Columbia 30, Camden County 24</del>
<del> USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor: Camden County 28, Columbia 27</del>
<del> Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: Columbia 24 over Camden County</del>

8. Jesuit (1-0) at Trinity Catholic (0-1)
Last Week: Jesuit defeated Lakewood Ranch, 39-3; Trinity Catholic’s game at Admiral Farragut canceled due to weather
When: Friday, 7:00 p.m. ET
Where: Dunlap Field, Ocala
Why: Jesuit easily won last week against a subpar Lakewood Ranch team. However, this week they are going to be facing a Celtic team that is ready to beat up on someone other than themselves after their season opener was a washout in St. Petersburg. The Tigers will rely on Malik Davis who ran for 195 yards and four scores last week, one player that the Celtic defense will have to gang up early and often to keep him out of the end zone and off the field.
Predictions:
Josh’s Prediction: Jesuit 35, Trinity Catholic 21
USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor: Jesuit 35, Trinity Catholic 13
Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: Jesuit 21 over Trinity Catholic

<del>9. Miami Jackson (0-1) at Bolles (1-0)
Last Week:Miami Jackson was defeated by Columbus, 21-13; Bolles defeated Lake Mary, 62-24</del>
<del> When: Friday, 7:30 p.m. ET</del>
<del> Where: Skinner-Barco Stadium</del>
<del> Why: The first female head football coach in Florida will go up against </del>the all<del> times wins leader in this Friday night showdown. Miami Jackson didn’t disappoint in a 21-13 loss to Columbus and has already </del>showing<del> they are a team that could get better and better each week. Bolles easily ran over an underachieving 8A Lake Mary team last week, but playing a team from South Florida is not the same as playing a team from Central Florida. Expect this game to be a battle in Jacksonville.</del>
<del> Predictions: </del>
<del> Josh’s Prediction: Bolles 35, Miami Jackson 28</del>
<del> USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor: Bolles 34, Miami Jackson 28</del>
<del> Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: Miami Jackson 1 over Bolles</del>

10. Baker (1-0) at Blountstown (1-0)
Last Week: Baker defeated Holmes County, 30-14; Blountstown defeated Walton, 26-13
When: Friday, 7:00 p.m. CT
Where: Ted Cooper Stadium at Bowles Field, Blountstown
Why: Both Baker and Bloutntstown are coming off over convincing season opening wins and are two teams to keep an eye on in the 1A playoff hunt early on this season. Watch out for Baker QB Kalee Ciurleo who threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns last week while watching out for Blountstown QB Bryson Home who threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns last week as well. Both quarterbacks will be looking to put up the same kind of performance or better in these games.
Predictions:
Josh’s Prediction: Blountstown 28, Baker 21
USA TODAY HSS Score Predictor: Blountstown 34, Baker 14
Joe Pinkos’ Forecast: Blountstown 14 over Baker

North Broward Prep (1-0, 1-0 in conference) at Coral Springs Charter (0-0)

When: Friday, 7:00 P.M. ET

Where: Coral Glades High School

North Broward Prep will play its second game of the season on Friday night as they travel to Coral Springs to take on new district foe Coral Springs Charter. Friday marks the first showdown between the two schools as members of the Gold Coast Football Conference. Coral Springs Charter is entering its first season in the conference, while North Broward is in its third. The game will kickoff at Coral Glades High School, Coral Springs Charter’s home field.

LAST TIME OUT: North Broward Prep opened its season last Friday night with a 56-18 crushing of Pembroke Pines Charter at home. On the other hand, Coral Springs Charter’s opening game against International School of Broward was cancelled due to lightning in the area. Officials later ruled that the game – not a district matchup – would not count. International School of Broward led 8-7 after the first quarter at the time the game was called.

North Broward Prep

WHAT TO KNOW: There weren’t many things the Eagles did wrong in their season opener. North Broward dominated on both sides of the ball from the start en route to a 38-point killing of Pembroke Pines Charter. Junior Quarterback Logan Shooster is set to make his second career start on Friday night, after he shined in his debut last week. North Broward will again be without junior linebacker Kirby Burns, who is missing a few weeks with a hand injury. A senior-laden squad, the Eagles have long looked as this year’s team as the one that will get over the hump: North Broward hasn’t got past the semifinals in the first two season it’s been in the GCFC.

OFFENSE: Their forte. North Broward’s offense is high scoring, talented, and deadly. A unit highlighted by four-star receiver Kevin Austin, the Eagles put up 56 points in their opener last week and accumulated 553 total yards. With a young quarterback, North Broward likes to establish its running game early and often. Star senior running back Dymitri McKenzie – who holds division one offers – rushed for 91 yards and three touchdowns against Pines Charter, while senior Dorian Cole complimented with three carries for 42 yards. But if the passing game played like it did last week, the Eagles will be hard to stop. Shooster was 8 of 13 for 229 yards and a touchdown passing. Shooster has a variety of weapons at his display, with tight end Kenny Henningsen, wide receivers Anthony Gomez and Bradley Cooper, and running back Dorian Cole going along with McKenzie and Austin to leave defenses puzzled.

DEFENSE: The Eagles’ defense can be one of two ways any night: Dominating or Dominated. Last season, North Broward flashed games where opposing offenses couldn’t get anything going, but there were also games – like last week – where North Broward’s talented defensive attack was shutting down everything. The Eagles have a strong secondary and linebacker core, but have been vulnerable to strong rushing attacks. If the Eagles are able to lock up against the run on Friday and force Coral Springs Charter, it should beneficial, and help North Broward cause turnovers and get stops.

Coral Springs Charter

WHAT TO KNOW: Coral Springs Charter is a team in the midst of change. After a championship in the Southeastern Football Conference in 2015, the Panthers have a lot of new faces in 2016 after a switch to the Gold Coast Football Conference. After head coach Adam Miller departed for a job with FIU, Coral Springs Charter named Matt Garris, who was previously defensive coordinator, head coach. The Panthers lost 22 seniors from their 2015 squad, most notably senior receiver Calvin Jackson Jr. – who is now playing at Toledo – and running back Kalen Carson. Garris is set to make his first official head coaching debut Friday, after last week’s cancellation. He played football for FIU from 2006-2009 and was a graduate assistant at FIU before taking over the Coral Springs Charter program.

OFFENSE: Coral Springs Charter – although losing 22 seniors – still returns six starters for 2015’s undefeated season. However, on offense there are new faces. The Panthers will start Junior Jordan Sepulveda at quarterback and senior Michael Carrion at running back, both of whom new faces in the starting lineup. Seniors Jazeel McNee, Tristan St. Fleur, and Dominic Grassi will need to step up for Coral Springs Charter at receiver with the loss of Calvin Jackson Jr. The Panthers seek to get their running game going to open up for the areal attack, as Carrion had four carries for 18 yards and a touchdown in the brief clash with International School of Broward.

DEFENSE: Similar to their offense, there are new faces on the defensive end. Seniors Nick Dulcey, Nick D’Esposito, Eddie Fuentes, Grassi, Carrion, Mark Krumenacker, as well as junior Anquan Garland, and sophomore Jimmy Nixon will need to pick up the slack defensively if the Panthers are going to be able to stop the powerful North Broward Prep offense.

GAME OUTLOOK: The keys to the game are simple for North Broward Prep: protect the ball, play offense how you usually do, and lock down on the run defensively. The Eagles’ electric offense will be extremely difficult for Coral Springs Charter to stop, but Coral Springs Charter could be able to stay in this game if the Panthers are able to cause turnovers, and run the ball effectively against North Broward’s skeptical run defense. The Eagles will also need to take care of special teams, where Pembroke Pines Charter had a score off them last week. Overall, a North Broward Prep victory relies on playing offense the way they are capable, playing good defense, and not making mistakes. Coral Springs Charter must force North Broward to revert from its game-plan, and fall behind early. Long offensive drives for the Panthers can keep North Broward’s offense off the field and tire out a defense that has a lot of players playing both sides of the field.

PREDICTION: North Broward Prep 48, Coral Springs Charter 20.
