WHAT TO KNOW: This is a rematch from Week 6 that saw Robinson come away with a 25-24 win that would ultimately lead the Knights to their first district championship since 2012 … For the visiting Crusaders, keep an eye on Trey Hedden who is 93-of-149 passing for 1,825 yards and 16 touchdowns against six interceptions … The Crusaders will run the ball a lot as well and will mix it up well with Josh Andrews leading the way with 624 yards and four touchdowns so far this season … TJ Moore is Tampa Catholic’s leading receiver with 897 yards receiving and has scored 11 touchdowns on 36 catches … Chrystian Ware leads the team in defensive tackles with 47 while Michael Dempsey leads in sacks with seven … For the host Knights, keep an eye on quarterback Eric Archield Jr. who has shown some solid stats in his junior year having thrown for 2,019 yards and 23 touchdowns against five interceptions … Archield has also rushed for 531 yards and five touchdowns, which makes him the Knights’ leading rusher so far this season … Tamez Young leads Robinson in receiving yards with 458 yards on 32 receptions and five touchdowns … Defensively, Robinson has not entered any statistics this year, but based upon the scoring averages, it has been very hard for opponents to score against the Knights.

WHAT TO KNOW: This is Blake’s second straight playoff appearance … For Clearwater this marks the ninth straight year they have made the playoffs including 2020 when they went past the play-in round and reached the regional quarterfinals … The visiting Yellow Jackets are very balanced on offense and have several athletes who will be handling the ball-carrying duties … Xavier Irizarry will be the key weapon to keep an eye on as he has thrown for 961 yards and 10 touchdowns against five interceptions, but also has rushed for 340 yards and four touchdowns … Jadarian Collins is the leading receiver for the Yellow Jackets with 531 receiving yards and nine touchdowns … Javion Collins leads the defense in tackles and tackles for loss with 59 and 10 respectively and also leads in sacks with six-and-a-half sacks … along with Jadarian Collins, Zyon Jones and Markis Watson each lead the Yellow Jackets with two interceptions each … With the host Tornadoes, keep an eye on to see if they rotate quarterbacks as three players have registered time under center this year with Adarius Lemons leading the way … Lemons also leads the way in rushing yards for the team with 932 yards and nine touchdowns recorded through the regular season … Defensively, for Clearwater, Marquez Hartsfield and Nick Robinson lead the team in tackles tied at 84 each while Hartsfield leads in tackles for loss at 16 … Lucas McWhorter leads the Tornadoes in interceptions.

WHAT TO KNOW: Both Monsignor Pace and Gulliver Prep are coming into this game having won four out of their last five games … When comparing schedules side by side, Monsignor Pace has played nationally ranked Miami Central and Miami Norland, two of the four teams they have lost to this season compared to the three losses Gulliver Prep has taken this year … For the Spartans they have not entered any stats offensively, but defensively Shawn Smith leads the team in tackles with 59 … JP Pierre leads the Spartans in tackles for loss with 10 … Davari Williams is the sack leader for Monsignor Pace with 7.5 sacks … For the host Raiders, Brendan Berry, who is a freshman has shown impressive growth and has thrown for 1,146 yards and 11 touchdowns, but is slippery at times as he has 11 interceptions as well … the leading receiver for Gulliver Prep is Kenny Williams who has 33 catches for 423 yards and two touchdowns … Defensively, Dylan Calero and Roderick Boynton II are the Raider’s two leading tacklers with 96 and 92 respectively … Brandon Rosenthal leads the team in sacks and tackles for loss with 14.5 and 23 respectively … The Raiders as a team have intercepted 17 passes this season led by Marquis Williams with four interception and has returned two of them for touchdowns.

JOSH’S PREDICTION: Raines over Andrew Jackson

No. 7 Episcopal (Jacksonville) (5-5) at No. 2 Riverside (Jacksonville) (8-2), 6:30: The host Generals got an upset last year in the first-round, but this year with a much-improved squad should easily handle things against the visiting Eagles. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Riverside over Episcopal

No. 6 Ed White (Jacksonville) (6-4) at No. 3 Bishop Moore (Orlando) (7-3): The commanders have been up-and-down this season, but the host Hornets are riding a seven-game win streak and that should continue here. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Bishop Moore over Ed White

No. 1 Berkeley Prep (Tampa) (8-2) at No. 8 Middleton (Tampa) (4-6): This one might be over by half-time if you stack the schedules and see there is not much comparison. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Berkeley Prep over Middleton

No. 7 Lakewood (St. Petersburg) (2-8) at No. 2 Calvary Christian (Clearwater) (8-2), 7: Lakewood has struggled greatly this season and with the Warriors looking strong, this game could be done in a hurry. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Calvary Christian over Lakewood.

REGION 3

No. 8 North Broward Prep (Coconut Creek) (5-5) at No. 1 American Heritage (Plantation) (7-1): Up until last week North Broward Prep was on the outside looking in, but a trip to the playoffs will be quick as I expect the Patriots to roll the Eagles here. JOSH’S PREDICTION: American Heritage over North Broward Prep

No. 7 Stranahan (Fort Lauderdale) (5-5) at No. 2 Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale) (7-3), 7: District rematch here, and Stranahan will look for ways to slow the Chiefs down, but the Mighty Dragons should see their season end here. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Cardinal Gibbons over Stranahan

No. 6 Calvary Christian (Fort Lauderdale) (7-3) at No. 3 Saint Andrew’s (Boca Raton) (9-1), 7: This one could be interesting as a lot of points have the potential to be scored in this between the visiting Eagles and the host Scots. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Saint Andrew’s over Boca Raton

No. 8 St. Brendan (Miami) (7-3) vs. No. 1 Miami Norland (10-0) at Traz Powell, Thursday, 7: When we talk about records being deceiving, St. Brendan has a record that is deceiving when looking at the schedule they have played. Vikings should roll the Sabres to another first-round exit. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Miami Norland over St. Brendan

No. 7 Miami Edison (6-4) vs. No. 2 Miami Central (6-3) at Traz Powell: Red Raiders will find a way to test the Rockets early. Miami Central eventually pulls away in this one. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Miami Central over Miami Edison

Washington (Miami) (8-2) at Curtis Park, Thursday, 7: People have complained about North Miami Beach making the playoffs, but their schedule speaks for itself. No. 6 Fletcher (Neptune Beach) (7-3) at No. 3 Tampa Bay Tech (8-2): A first-round playoff rematch from last year and the visiting Senators are looking for revenge against the Titans from last year. Titans dropped two in a row to end the season after starting off 8-0. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Tampa Bay Tech over Fletcher

REGION 2

No. 8 Pinellas Park (Largo) (6-4) at No. 1 Jesuit (Tampa) (8-2): The host Tigers have been playing strong in the second half of the season and are much better than they were this time last year. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Jesuit over Pinellas Park

No. 7 East Bay (Gibsonton) (8-2) at No. 2 Largo (8-2): Records are the same, but Largo has by far played the better schedule and the Packers should win easily over the Indians. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Largo over East Bay

No. 6 Gaither (Tampa) (5-5) at No. 3 St. Petersburg (8-2): The host Green Devils rolled to a district championship this season, but the Cowboys have played much tougher competition and I feel the Cowboys will go back across Tampa Bay with a win. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Gaither over St. Petersburg

No. 8 Plantation (6-4) at No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas (9-1), 7: Colonels have struggled, and the Raiders have rolled to nine straight wins since losing to St. John Bosco in Week 1. Not much to see in this one. JOSH’S PREDICTION: St. Thomas Aquinas over Plantation

No. 7 West Boca Raton (8-2) at No. 2 Atlantic (Delray Beach) (9-1), 6:30: Great season for the visiting Bulls, but the Eagles are a mile ahead when it comes to overall talent and quality of schedule that has been played. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Atlantic over West Boca Raton

No. 6 Piper (Sunrise) (6-4) at No. 3 Coconut Creek (8-2), 7: Battle of district champions, but not all district champions are created equal, and the host Cougars are just playing in a different zip code than the visiting Bengals right now. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Coconut Creek over Piper

No. 8 McArthur (5-4-1) vs. No. 1 Homestead (8-1) at Harris Field: McArthur slipped into the playoffs through the backdoor but are going to get met with a Homestead team that just looks even better than last year’s state runner-up team. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Homestead over McArthur

WHAT TO KNOW: A true toss-up in the No. 4 vs. No. 5 pairing … Durant is coming off winning their second straight District 4M-8 championship …. Palm Harbor University won their first district championship in school history by winning District 4M-6 via winning the tiebreak through the FHSAA playoff power rankings … The visiting Cougars come into this game with a balanced offensive attack led by quarterback Michael Ryan who has 1,655 yards passing on 122-of-226 passing attempts through the 10 regular season games. Ryan has thrown 9 touchdowns against three interceptions … Jeremiah Gines has been Ryan’s top receiver with 773 yards receiving on 41 catches with six touchdowns … Expect rushing duties to be evenly split between Alex Daley (74 carries, 473 yards rushing, eight touchdowns) and Calub Connell (113 carries, 483 yards rushing, nine touchdowns) with Ryan also rushing some as he has 230 yards rushing and seven touchdowns on 83 carries … Linebacker Hale Sollmann is the leading tackler for the Cougars with 75 total tackles along with 13 tackles for loss, one sack and three quarterback hurries … the defensive backfield has been impressive for the Cougars as they have a collective 14 interceptions led by Jayden Cornelius, Xavier Peavy and Gines each having three interceptions each … For the host Hurricanes who are also hosting their first home playoff game in school history will be relying more on a heavy rushing attack as they have rushed for over 1,800 yards this season lead by Mykehi Boebert who has 169 carries for 852 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns … leading the passing game for the Hurricanes will be Will Seibert who has thrown for 466 yards and five touchdowns against two interceptions … If anything defense has been where the success of the Hurricanes has come from this season with linebackers Gunner Fodor and Patrick Iaconis leading the way in tackles with 84 and 78 respectively … Defensive tackle Brady Messick leads the defense in sacks with five … Overall this game could go one of two ways with it being a defensive battle or it could end up in a high scoring affair.

WHAT TO KNOW: A rematch from district play in District 4M-5 from earlier this season … Olympia won the first meeting this season by a 31-21 decision at Dr. Phillips … The host Titans won their first district championship since the 2016 season … For the visiting Panthers, this is the first playoff appearance since playing Miami Palmetto in the regional quarterfinals in the 2020 playoffs …. The Panthers have won three out of their last five games and come in having dropped their Week 11 game to Jones (Orlando) … Quarterback Stanley Anderson-Lofton will lead things for the Panthers offensively … Anderson-Lofton’s top targets will be wide receivers Mykel Calixte and Cameran Dixon … Defensively Jerard Smith will be the top player to keep an eye on who has registered over 100 tackles so far this season … For Olympia quarterback Juan Gainous will be the offensive weapon to keep an eye on as he has thrown for 1,812 yards on 104-of-163 pass completions this season along with 21 touchdowns against four interceptions … Gainous’ top passing targets include Joshua Evans (605 yards receiving, six touchdowns) and Xavier Tucker (555 yards receiving, six touchdowns) … And yes, the Titans offense is balanced in their attack as Romelo Ware has rushed for over 1,300 yards this season on 147 carries and has scored 17 touchdowns … Gainous also joins in on the rushing action as he has scored seven rushing touchdowns this season and also has 374 yards rushing … Outside linebacker Arden Payne-Tonge is the Titans leading tackler with 72 total tackles and also has six tackles for loss and two sacks … Also keep an eye on defensive back Jalon Thompson who has four interceptions this season and will be looking to keep Panthers’ offensive weapons from scoring.

WHAT TO KNOW: Both Palm Beach Gardens and Santaluces are at-large teams after both failed to win their respective districts … The visiting Gators has won four out of their last five games with their only loss coming to Jupiter … The host Chiefs are 3-2 in their last five games and have suffered setback to Boca Raton and Atlantic (Delray Beach) during that stretch of games … Offensively for Palm Beach Gardens, they are very balanced with 1,295 yards passing compared to 1,364 yards rushing … Keyon Stephens will lead the passing attack for the Gators who has 1,169 yards passing along with 10 touchdowns against four interceptions … Stephens also leads the team in rushing with 571 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns … Defensively, Niko Platt and Khristian Scruggs lead the way in tackles with 71 and 66 respectively … Platt has 14 tackles for loss while Scruggs leads the team in tackles for loss with 15 … Expect cornerback Bryce Kelly to be a disrupter to the Chiefs’ passing game as he has four interceptions on the season so far along with two pass breakups … The Chiefs come into the game having relied on Sheyia Deveaux who has 1,439 yards passing and 18 touchdowns against three interceptions … With Deveaux limited in last week’s game against Atlantic, it will be interesting to see if backup quarterback Anatay Smith steps in some in this week’s playoff game …. Keshawn Baker, Ronald Olibrisse, and Tre Robinson Jr. lead the way with tackles for the Chiefs with 70, 68 and 66 respectively … Olibrisse along with Chris Siska and Ryan Wood all each have three interceptions each this season.

SCORING AVERAGES: South Dade: 35-14.9; West Broward: 30.4-12.8

WHAT TO KNOW: When looking at both the visiting Buccaneers and the host Bobcats, both teams look very similar on paper … South Dade comes into the matchup on a two-game winning streak and has won three out of their last five games … West Broward enters the game with a three-game winning streak and has only lost one game in the last eight games since dropping a 35-0 decision to Mainland (Daytona Beach) in Week 2 … South Dade will come into the game with Jean Calixte leading the way at quarterback with 1,206 yards passing with 15 touchdowns against no interceptions …. However, the Buccaneers do like to run the ball just a tad bit more and have a plethora of athletes that will be rotated in and out that will handle the ball-carrying duties … Demetrius Williams and Chaz Milton Jr. lead the way in rushing yards for South Dade with 457 yards and 453 yards respectively …. Williams has scored 10 rushing touchdowns so far this season …. Defensively, Sawyer Bartiet along with Williams leads the team in tackles with 53 and 51 respectively … Bartiet also leads the team in sacks and quarterback hurries with six and five respectively … Defensive back Tedarius Hughes leads the defense in interceptions with four with one of those having been returned for a touchdown this season … West Broward is going to be led offensively by Jonathan Morillo who is 104-of-193 passing for 1,850 yards and 19 touchdowns this season against five interceptions … Morillo’s favorite target has been receiver Joshua Moore who has 39 catches for 695 yards and eight touchdowns … Defensively Carlos Morales and Nicholas Vazquez lead the way defensively in tackles with 62 and 61 respectively … Luis Rojas leads the team in sacks with 13 … Kelvin Reyes leads the team in interceptions with three on the season.

No. 8 Stoneman Douglas (Parkland) (4-6) at No. 1 Monarch (Coconut Creek) (8-2), Thursday, 7: The Eagles slid into the playoffs through the backdoor but drew a rematch with a strong Knights team that has won four of their last five games. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Monarch over Stoneman Douglas

No. 7 Spanish River (Boca Raton) (7-3) at No. 2 Palm Beach Central (Wellington) (8-2), 6:30: Sharks land a playoff spot in their first season back in district action but draw a Broncos team that is just strong and has played a tougher schedule. No. 6 Boca Raton (6-4) at No. 3 Jupiter (9-1), 6:30: Battle of two district champions here, but the visiting Bobcats have been on a bumpy ride in the second half of the season while the Warriors have been rolling and peaking at the right time. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Jupiter over Boca Raton

No. 6 Cypress Bay (Weston) (8-2) at No. 3 Western (Davie) (7-3), Thursday, 7: The visiting Lighting is not too happy about the seed they drew and the fact they will rematch against a Wildcats team that blew them 56-0 in Week 8. Expecting the same again. JOSH’S PREDICTION: Western over Cypress Bay

With Buchholz coming in ranked No. 2 in Class 4S and No. 18 in the Florida Top 25, while Bartram Trail ranked No. 10 in Class 4S, the ingredients were there for showdown of top teams marking it as as one of the best Thursday night games on the schedule this season. However, it was anything but competitive as the host Bobcats sent the visiting Bears back to St. Johns County with a stinging 44-7 loss, marking the largest blowout in series history between the two programs and giving the Bobcats the District 4S-3 championship.

Here are four things we learned from the game:

Johnson is a legitimate top 2026 quarterback prospect

Outside of just one game this season, where Trace Johnson threw two interceptions against city rival Eastside (Gainesville) earlier in the season and four overall, he continued to excel with his passing mechanics in Thursday night’s showing, adding another 300 yard-plus passing game to his budding resume as a legacy athlete following the footsteps of his father, Doug Johnson, who played for the Florida Gators.

On a night where Johnson only had seven incompletions on 28 passes thrown, Johnson was hitting targets like Quinton Cutler, Jordan Richardson, Justin Williams, and DJ Hicks, Johnson was pretty accurate in getting the ball on target to get positive yards on every completion made.

From the get-go, Johnson made his presence felt by the Bears’ defense from the first snap on the first drive when he found Cutler out in the flat wide-open for an 85-yard touchdown play after the kickoff to start the game was crushed by the Bears’ special team’s unit. That touchdown play would end up being the longest play of the game and setting the tone for the eventual blowout victory.

Johnson’s two other touchdown passes went to Richardson in the second quarter with a 16-yard reception that made the lead 21-0, while Williams hauled in a 27-yard reception in the middle of the fourth quarter, extending the lead to 31-7.

On the night, Johnson went 21-of-28 passing for 387 yards and three touchdowns with a passing completion percentage of 75%.

“When you grow up, you’re a Bobcat legacy; you hear about your father’s conquest at Citizens Field. You watch video of your father back in the day, this is what he has been training for his whole life, quite frankly. It is coming to fruition right now for him. He is an amazing young player. I can’t say enough about him. Trace is our field general on offense,” Buchholz first-year head coach Chuck Bell said after the game.

Graham is still showing why he is the team player the Bobcats have come to love

With Cutler back in action compared to several weeks ago when Myles Graham picked up more of the running back duties, Graham mainly was minding his business on the defensive side of the ball at linebacker. However, that did not keep Graham from doing some damage to Bartram Trail from the offensive side of the ball.

In three of the Bobcats’ six touchdowns, Graham came out lined up at the quarterback position in a variation of the wildcat formation that Buchholz has rightfully named the Bobcat package. Graham uses his body frame in those packages, taking the direct snap and getting the touchdown.

Now, in some instances, the Bobcat resulted in a fumble by Graham due to high snaps, but in the end, it did not cost Buchholz in points or in turnovers as Graham was quick to get the ball covered up and keep it under wraps once he got the ball in hand.

And in only one instance did Graham have a touchdown called back due to a penalty that took a nearly 45-yard touchdown off the board for Graham as he had broken through a pack of Bears defenders getting into the open field.

Graham’s first touchdown came with 5:35 left in the first quarter on a seven-yard carry that capped off a 67-yard drive that started at the Buchholz 33 after forcing Bartram Trail to punt on their first drive of the game to put the Bobcats up 14-0 in the first quarter.

For the second touchdown, Graham bounced in on his number again on a five-yard direct snap that would put the Bobcats up 28-0 late in the second quarter.

The game’s last play marked Graham’s final touchdown with a four-yard carry to make it 44-7 in favor of the Bobcats that was setup thanks to Amari Sheppard interception a few plays earlier, returning it for 80 yards.

Sloppy play and penalties can lead to unexpected things

Luckily for Buchholz, sloppy play in the third quarter with some unexpected penalties did not cost them much other than a touchdown drive for Bartram Trail that went a span of 99 yards after failing to punch it in for a touchdown on the first drive of the second half.

In that drive, multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were assessed on Buchholz that ended up giving free yardage multiple times to the Bears, which was concluded with a 31-yard pass from Riley Trujillo to De’andre Caldwell that broke the goose egg on the scoreboard and wiping out any potential shutout the Bobcats were dreaming of getting with Bartram Trail.

Bell expressed frustration about some of the penalties that led to the points for Bartram Trail.

“On their scoring drive, it is frustrating when you stop them on third down, and you get told you tackled the quarterback too hard into the ground, and then you get a fourth down stop, and you get told by the guys behind the play that it was a horse collar, while the side judge was telling him that it was not horse collar. I thought the referees did a pretty good job tonight,” Bell said.

Buchholz is a legitimate threat for the Class 4S state championship

If there was any doubt before the game that Buchholz could be a legitimate state championship contender, the Bobcats showed they are that with the dominating performance on both sides of the ball.

However, Bell is doing all he can to keep his athletes from thinking too far ahead, as the Bobcats are just two wins away from their first undefeated regular season since 2001, with games left against Fleming Island and Trinity Catholic (Ocala) on the schedule.

“Fleming Island is a team that is always one of the strongest teams in North Florida. Cibastian Broughton [Fleming Island quarterback] is a guy that has given us fits the last couple of years. To think that we will be over-looking Fleming Island or a Trinity Catholic team that played for a state championship last year – that is not my style,” Bell said.

Bell said he is on edge regarding every team Buchholz has to play on the schedule.

However, Keeping the players focused is critical, and Bell expressed it starts from the top when it comes to keeping things focused on the current task.

“As the head coach, I think it starts from the top, and I am not going to let the foot off the pedal. I am going to be on them just as hard at practice against Fleming Island as I was this week, and our guys are ready for it,” Bell said.

Bell expects to see Bartram Trail again in the post-season and reminded everyone about last year, where Bartram Trail beat Buchholz in the regular season before Buchholz beat them in the regional finals that advanced the Bobcats to their second straight trip to the state semifinals.

“Bartram beat us last year, so if you reverse the roles, obviously, this was a pretty significant defeat as opposed to the 21-6 game last year in the regular season. I totally expect we are going to see Bartram again, and I totally expect that they are going to have a much better game plan or a different game plan, not to say they didn’t have a good game plan tonight. I think they will have a different game plan, and their kids will be a little bit more motivated. It seems to me that our kids wanted it more from the start,” Bell said.

How They Fared: The Fighting Seminoles fought hard on the road against a very tough 4S Treasure Coast (Port St. Lucie) team and came up just short in a 14-9 loss. QB Karson Siquerios-Lasky threw for 102 yards and a touchdown, while running RB Treyvin Clark had 22 carries for 108 yards rushing.

4. Western (Davie) (1-1)

How They Fared: The Wildcats found themselves coming out of their early bye week on the other side of the scoreboard with a 20-15 loss to 3M Coconut Creek.

5. Mandarin (Jacksonville) (3-0)

How They Fared: The hot streak continues for the Mustangs as they easily took care of business against 2M Riverside (Jacksonville) 50-20. QB Tramell Jones went 13-of-27 passing for 307 yards and 4 touchdowns. RB Deshard Westcott had 126 yards rushing on 14 carries and a touchdown, while WR Jaime Ffrench Jr. had 5 catches for 185 yards and three touchdowns.

How They Fared: The Broncos’ game against Park Vista was postponed until Week 5, according to Emilee Smarr at The Palm Beach Post. The reason given for the postponement was due to COVID-19 concerns.

7. Lake Mary (2-0)

How They Fared: The Rams won 46-17 over 3M Oviedo behind QB Noah Grubbs with 268 yards passing, completing 14-of-24 passes and 4 touchdowns. RB Isaiah Thomas had 17 carries for 143 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. LB John Scarelli had 5 tackles and 2 sacks, while LB Luke Prieto led the team in tackles with 10.

How They Fared: QB Rhys Bush is going 10-of-19 passing for 162 yards for 3 TDS, while RB Girard Pringle rushed for 134 yards on 19 carries and four touchdowns, leading the Hawks to a 48-12 victory over Hillsborough (Tampa). WR Mekhi Anderson added 113 yards receiving and a touchdown, while DE/LB Greg Lott recorded 5 tackles and 3 sacks defensively.

3. Edgewater (Orlando) (3-0)

How The Fared: The Eagles knocked out another strong and formidable foe in 4M West Orange with a 27-13 victory to remain undefeated on the season.
