The 2025 Girls Flag Football season in Florida kicks off today with the start of the regular season.

Since covering girls flag football in full since the 2016 season, we have seen a lot change in the growth of the sport and in almost 10 years’ time things are coming full circle to where we thought things would be, but was doubted by many when we first started covering girls flag football.

While the sport of girls flag football still has a lot of growth ahead, the future of the growth is taking many positive steps forward towards its journey of being debuted as an Olympic sport come 2028 when Los Angeles will be the host of the 2028 Summer Olympics.

With that said here is our preview of the 2025 season with several storylines we will be following for the 2025 Florida High School Girls Flag Football season.

THE NUMBER OF CLASSIFICATIONS EXPAND

When we started covering girls flag football in 2016, the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) just expanded the sport from one classification to two classifications after starting with one classification in the 2002-2003 school year.

When digging back into our archives on our coverage of girls flag football when return to one of our first articles covering the History of Girls Flag Football in Florida, we are amazed just how much growth there has been in the sport since 2016 with the number of schools now fielding teams.

As such, the FHSAA is entering the 2025 season with the sport not adding just one classification but expanding by two classifications, doubling the number of classifications from two to four. That means now their will be four state champions in girls flag football, and even more teams qualifying for post season play and reaching the state championship each season.

Just to give an idea of where things are at now here is a look at just how much growth there has been in girls flag football in Florida since 2003 with the total number of teams each year. All years include independent teams in total number unless noted.

POTENTIAL STATE TITLE CONTENDERS

Given that the number of classifications has now doubled means now double the state championship winning teams there will be had.

Let’s take a look a quick look at some of the teams we feel have a potential chance to win each classification. The records listed are from the 2024 season.

Alonso (Tampa) (18-1) – Despite not making it out of the regional bracket in 2024, we cannot have a list that does not include one of the most successful flag football program in the state. The Ravens have been a top-tier program under head coach Matt Hernandez and have returning athletes back like quarterback Gabby Werr (3,474 yards passing, 59 touchdowns) and WR/DB Makenna Sturgis (1,402 yards receiving, 34 touchdowns; 14 flag pulls, eight interceptions).

Fort Pierce Central (19-2) – The Cobras were a very hot team in 2024, and they have shown how far they have come under head coach Nick Clements over the last few years. Don’t underestimate the chances here for them to run the table as quarterback Adriene Rivera is back for her senior year after throwing for nearly 4,600 yards and 60 touchdowns in 2024.

Miami Palmetto (20-1) – Last year’s Class 2A state champion is now in Class 4A should have a few key athletes back including quarterback Ava Alvarez who threw for over 2,600 yards and 49 touchdowns. Don’t put doubt on the Panthers to make another deep playoff run in 2025.

Lennard (Ruskin) (19-4) –Last year’s Class 2A state runner-up, the Longhorns came up just one-point short and they are going to be a favorite to win the Class 4A state championship in 2025 under head coach Travis Combs. However, replacing 5,000-yard passer Abby Elwell at quarterback is no easy task, but don’t underestimate what Combs can do as a coach with the talent he has.

Timber Creek (Orlando) (15-2) – A state quarterfinalist in Class 2A last year, the Timberwolves had their most successful season in program history behind Jarlene Durate who they will need to replace due to graduation. However, don’t place doubt that now the Wolves have tasted a deep playoff run, what they could do in 2025.

Wellington (15-4) – A state semifinalist in Class 2A in 2024, the Wolverines have made strides over the years as a program. However, the biggest struggle that could impact Wellington is seeing who can fill Keelin Coleman’s shoes after throwing over 3,600 yards and 52 touchdowns as a senior last year.

Western (Davie) (17-1) – Yes Class 4A, is going to be wide open as you throw in Western to the mix, a state champion just a couple of years removed. The Wildcats who were bounced in the regional semifinals in 2024, should have Anabella Puccio back who threw for over 1,000 yards and 19 touchdowns last season, but will have to see who emerges in the receiving department as several top receivers have graduated.

CLASS 3A

Braden River (Bradenton) (18-2) – The Pirates made their deepest playoff run in program history, reaching the state semifinals for the first time before falling to eventual Class 1A state champion Robinson. With losing 3,600-yard passer in Cydnee Brooks, the Pirates will have to find someone to fill her shoes, but if the taste of success in 2024 is anything, Braden River has to be counted for among the teams to be in the running for the Class 3A title in 2025.

Fletcher (Neptune Beach) (12-4) – A lot of talk over the offseason has mentioned the Senators being a top team in the Jacksonville-area and in the state in 2025 and returning quarterback Jasmine Cross is a big reason why. After reaching the regional finals in Class 2A last year, Fletcher has a big chance to run deep in the new Class 3A. Cross who threw for 2,834 yards and 45 touchdowns in 2025 stands to have an impressive senior season.

Homestead (17-3) – Making their deepest playoff run last year, the Broncos should be in the mix for another deep run in 2025 Jerniyah Fowles expected to return after throwing for over 3,300 yards and 49 touchdowns in leading the Broncos to the state quarterfinals in Class 1A last year.

Mainland (Daytona Beach) (9-5) – The Buccaneers have risen up to be a competitive flag football program over the years and despite a first-round exit in Class 1A in 2024, Mainland could have a path to success in Class 3A. Brielle Jackson who threw over 1,900 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2024 returns.

Miami Southridge (15-3) – Making a deep run to the Class 2A regional finals in 2024, the Spartans could have a shot at a deep run in Class 3A this season. Part of that is the expected return of Mary Quinones at quarterback who threw nearly 2,900 yards and 47 touchdowns.

Pace (16-6) – State semifinalist in Class 2A last year, Pace returns some key athletes, including senior quarterback Amaya Pablo who has been a star since her freshman year. Pablo threw for over 4,500 yards and 61 touchdowns last season. Pablo loses a couple of her favorite receiving targets but has others returning including Kenna Pacitti and Emma Sutton. Patric Riley takes over as the second head coach in program history for the Patriots.

Pembroke Pines Charter (18-4) – The Jaguars made their deepest playoff run in 2024, finishing as the Class 1A state runner-up after upsetting Choctawhatchee in the state semifinals. The Jaguars however, are going to see some changes this year with a new head coach in Maria Espindola taking over from Keidran Willis stepping down. Quarterback Ava Rivera returns after throwing 4,400 yards and 61 touchdowns last season.

St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) (13-5) – The Raiders who are still fairly new to the flag football scene over the last few years has risen up pretty quickly and are knocking on the door to matching the counterparts on the tackle side who just won their sixth consecutive FHSAA Football State Championship. Derek Duque has been in the flag football coaching circles for while having success at Monsignor Pace before launching the Raiders program. Duque will have to replace the talents of 2,800-yard passer in Stella Guiterrez but has a lot of returning athletes that will make the Raiders a force in the classification.

Seminole Ridge (Westlake) (14-3) – One of the original powerhouses of girls flag football in the Sunshine State, Seminole Ridge has been looking for the first state championship in a decade and the path to returning to the top is there now in Class 3A. The Hawks will have a strong quarterback in sophomore Aubrey Fogel who threw for nearly 2,800 yards and 42 touchdowns as freshman in 2024.

CLASS 2A

Choctawhatchee (Fort Walton Beach) (16-2) – Another deep run that ended in a state semifinals loss last year, the Indians return some key pieces including Diaris Morales who threw for over 2,500 yards and 39 touchdowns. Head Coach Jim Bay’s team has something to prove in 2025 despite being in the same class with nemesis Robinson (Tampa) once again.

Clay (Green Cove Springs) (13-2) – The Blue Devils made one of their deepest playoff runs in several years, reaching the state quarterfinals before falling to Choctawhatchee. Several impressive athletes return including head coach Jared Moses’ daughter Teaghan who threw for over 2,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2024.

Jensen Beach (14-7) – A perennial playoff team in recent years, the Falcons could be in the Class 2A mix as they will return a 3,500-yard passer in Paige Bressman for her junior year. Last year Bressman threw for 44 touchdowns in helping the Falcons reach the regional finals in Class 1A.

Ed White (Jacksonville) (16-4) – The Commanders have the reigning 2024 Jaguars All-PREP Coach of the Year in Bachir Saoud returning and with that some talented athletes as well. One key athlete returning is quarterback Kyra Jackson who threw for over 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns but has to replace top rusher Tyra Pierce who graduated.

Lecanto (15-2) – Rick Keeran has built the Panthers program up over the last few years to be a team that will make deep playoff runs, but like others know the path could go through Robinson to win it all. However, it is safe to say you have to throw Lecanto into the mix with a quarterback in Peyton Dison most likely returning after throwing for 2,700 yards and 51 touchdowns in 2024.

Pompano Beach (14-4) – Making one their deepest playoff run in program history last season, the Golden Tornadoes could be in the Class 2A mix but will have to do it without Haley Nolan who threw for over 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns for Pompano Beach in 2024.

Robinson (Tampa) (24-0) – Until you can beat them, you might just have to deal with them and honestly no one has been able to knock off the Knights when it has mattered the most in the state championship game. Robinson has won eight state championships in a row going back to 2016, excluding 2020 when no state champions were crowned due to the cancellation of the 2020 season. Overall, the nine-time state champions are going to be the heavy favorite to win Class 2A and will have plenty of talented athletes back including quarterback Haidyn Spano who threw for over 4,500 yards and 84 touchdowns in 2024.

St. Petersburg (13-3) – The Green Devils made another deep playoff run last season behind quarterback Tiana Robinson who has since graduated. Head Coach John Reed has been impressive in helping Pinellas County become more relevant in the flag football scene in recent years and the Green Devils depending on who can step up a quarterback in 2025 might just be in that mix once more.  

CLASS 1A

Bradford (Starke) (8-2) – Head Coach John Staples returns after a one-year hiatus and with that he has two talented athletes in quarterback Arnayshia Griffin and Nichelle Brown, both who were making waves just two years ago. With the coaching and some of the key players from the team that went 16-1 in 2023 back, Bradford could have a path to a very deep and fruitful playoff run in 2025.  

Florida High (Tallahassee) (13-2) – A team that has been on the rise in recent years, Florida High is a team being talked about after their impressive performance at the 2025 Jaguars Girls Flag Football Preseason Classic over the weekend. While the Seminoles will need a quarterback to replace Rachel White (1,800 yards passing, 38 touchdowns in 2024), there is a ton of talent ready to carry the Seminoles deeper than the regional finals finish they had last season.

Somerset Canyons (Boynton Beach) (18-2) – If there was anything impressive about the Cougars it is the fact they were led by a quarterback that is going to be one of the top flag football prospects by the time she graduates in a couple of years. Ava Wotipka, who is a sophomore this year, threw over 2,900 yards and 58 touchdowns along with rushing for 1,225 yards and 10 more touchdowns as a freshman last year in leading the Cougars to the state quarterfinals. Do not discount what this program will be able to do in 2025 with the new Class 1A being wide open for the taking.

Tampa Catholic (12-7) – After reaching the regional final for the first time last season before losing to Robinson, the Crusaders now have a path to build on the growth and success of 2024 with a wide-open chance to go even further in Class 1A in 2025. Returning quarterback Ava Kopp will be one athlete to watch who threw over 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2024.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURNING TO TAMPA

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will once again host the FHSAA Flag Football State Championships at the AdventHealth Training Center over three days from Thursday, May 8 through Saturday, May 10.

Last year marked the first time an NFL facility hosted the FHSAA Flag Football State Championships in the 20-plus year history of the sport in the Sunshine State and had one of the highest turnout rates for attendance, partly thanks to free admission to the state championship that was taken care of by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation.

This year’s state championship will include eight state semifinal games and four state championship games resulting in 12 flag football games to be played inside the indoor training facility of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dates and times for each of the matchups will be announced closer to the state championships as the state series playoffs progress through each of its rounds in late April and early May.

JAGUARS TO ONCE AGAIN TO HAVE MASSIVE FLAG FOOTBALL COVERAGE

While the weather was warm at the start of the day, the weather started become very wet with heavy rain at various times as teams made sure to get both of their preseason matchups in.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Boselli who was just recently name Executive Vice President of Football Operations spoke to the teams prior to the day starting and really focusing on the message from the recent NFL campaign during Super Bowl LIX to get girls flag football to be a sanctioned sport in all 50 states.

Athletes from the Jacksonville Jaguars represented the team in talking with the girls flag football athletes including S Andre Cisco, DE D’Shaan Dixon and LB Foye Oluokun.

With Florida being the first state to sanction the sport, the sport is entering the 2025 season with over 400 programs and the number of classifications having expanded from two to four in the FHSAA.

Here is a look at the results from Day 1 of the 2025 Jaguars Girls Flag Football Preseason Classic:

RESULTS FROM DAY 1

Lincoln (Tallahassee) 7, Bartram Trail (St. Johns) 6: An extra point made the difference in this matchup as Matt Jackson takes over as head coach for the Trojans. Second-year Bears showed promise with some new receivers in the mix but was without All-Prep receiver Lily Holden due to soccer playoffs still going on for Bartram Trail.

Seabreeze (Daytona Beach) 18, Westside (Jacksonville) 0 – Sandcrabs looks strong against a Wolverines team still trying to establish themselves as Seabreeze looks to get back to being one of the teams to be reckoned with in Central Florida.

Atlantic Coast (Jacksonville) 57, Trinity Christian (Deltona) 0 – Stingrays might not have All-Prep star Gaby Rourke anymore, but the Stingrays shined with all their athletes contributing to a shutout victory to start off 2025 in a positive note.

Menendez (St. Augustine) 20, First Coast (Jacksonville) 0 – The Falcons looked solid to open up 2025 with a shutout victory over the Buccaneers who had their ups and downs in 2024.

Eagle’s View (Jacksonville) 26, KIPP Bold City (Jacksonville) 0 – Two first-year teams battled it out in their first game of the year and the Warriors came out ahead big against the Greyhounds.

Westside (Jacksonville) 14, Trinity Christian (Deltona) 0 – After getting shut out in the first game, the Wolverines put up points on the board while the Eagles did not score in their second game of the day.

Atlantic Coast (Jacksonville) 18, Lincoln (Tallahassee) 0 – The Stingrays carried over their momentum from their first win to defeat perennial playoff team in the Trojans to finish the preseason 2-0 and set up momentum going into the regular season.

Bartram Trail (Jacksonville) 0, Seabreeze (Daytona Beach) 0 – Both the Bears and Sandcrabs saw their defenses shine in this game with both teams drawing to a tie.

Menendez (St. Augustine) 0,  Faith Christian (Orlando) 0 – Another matchup that drew to a tie as teams started to battle things out in the on-and-off heavy rains.

Faith Christian (Orlando) 8, KIPP Bold City (Jacksonville) 0 – Second-year Faith Christian picked up a preseason win with a touchdown difference

Eagle’s View (Jacksonville) 12, First Coast (Jacksonville) 6 – The first year Warriors closed out the first preseason as a program with a second victory in a game that was impacted by an injury for the Buccaneers.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In partnership with FloridaHSFootball.com, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Jacksonville Jaguars Community Foundation recognized 25 outstanding Flag Football athletes in the Jacksonville Jaguars market with their names being a part of the 2024 Jaguars All-PREP Flag Football Team.

This year’s team saw the number of athletes recognized expand from 15 athletes to 25 athletes from the first two years of recognition that started in 2022.

At the recognition event held on Wed. May 8, 2024 at Academy Sports + Outdoors location on Southside Blvd. in Jacksonville, the 25 athletes were celebrated for their accomplishments along with receiving a customized Jaguars jersey with their last name and number they wore on the field, a Jaguars swag box filled with gear and other Jaguars goodies, plus each athlete received a $200 shopping spree to use that evening at Academy Sports + Outdoors as part of getting something for Mom for Mother’s Day this coming weekend.

In addition to all the goodies and rewards given to each of the athletes, one athlete was named Jaguars All-PREP Player of the Year while one coach was named the Jaguars All-PREP Coach of the Year. Both Player of the Year and the Coach of the Year received customized cleats as an award that were designed by the same artist that the Jaguars use for “My Cause, My Cleats,” an NFL supported effort to support athletes to represent their favorite causes through the use of their game day cleats each season on the designated day for “My Cause, My Cleats.”

Let’s meet this year’s 2024 Jaguars All-PREP Flag Football Team:

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

ATH London Jenkins, Fleming Island, Sr.

Jenkins is considered to be the most dynamic player that her coach, Clint Lyons has ever been around and also was nominated by multiple coaches in the Jacksonville-area to be this year’s Jaguars All-PREP Player of the Year. Jenkins finished her senior year with over 1,835 total yards with 21 rushing TDs, 6 receiving TDs, 5 passing TDs along with 13 interceptions on defense with 4 of those returned for TDs. This is Jenkins second time being selected to the Jaguars All-PREP Flag Football Team.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Bachir Saoud, Ed White (Jacksonville)

Nominated by several area coaches for Coach of the Year, Saoud led the Commanders to a district championship, the Gateway Conference championship and to the regional finals on a roster that was younger than the 2023 team. For his efforts, Saoud will receive a $2,500 grant from the Jacksonville Jaguars to help support the future teams of Ed White Commanders Flag Football.

2024 JAGUARS ALL-PREP FLAG FOOTBALL TEAM

WR/QB/S Catherine Brewer, Stanton (Jacksonville), Jr.

According to Brewer’s coach, Chris Crider, Brewer is one of the most versatile players and valuable because of her ability to throw on the run as a second quarterback option along with being super speedy.

WR/LB/P Courtney Brown, Stanton (Jacksonville), Sr.

According to Stanton head coach, Chris Crider, Brown had many long TD’s and was a true game changer for the Blue Devils while often the fastest player on the field and has great escape-ability. Super bright kid and was one of three recipients of the Jaguars Prep scholarship for girls who play football. This year’s recognition for Brown marks the third time she has been named to the Jaguars All-PREP Flag Football team.

WR/CB/S Brooke Cooper, Middleburg, Sr.

According to first-year head coach James Black, Brooke was the silent leader of the team. She lead by example and was the leading receiver for the Broncos team with close to 600 yards on 42 plus receptions. She scored 10 touchdowns during the season and has 56 total points. She is a mainstay on defense playing both CB and Safety. She has 2 interceptions and at least 15 pass breakups while playing on defense.

QB Jasmine Cross, Fletcher (Neptune Beach), Jr.

According to Cross’s head coach, Bradley Ashmore, she had at least 500 attempts during the season with Over 2,000 yards passing and was only intercepted five times, plus leading the Senators to a huge victory over 2023 Class 2A state runner-up Fleming Island.

LB/RB/S Paola Cruz, Crescent City, Jr.

Cruz was the leading player for the Raiders and is the first athlete selected from Crescent City to the Jaguars All-PREP Flag Football Team. Cruz finished the season with 58 flag pulls, 17 interceptions on defense. On offense Cruz registered 49 catches, 691 receiving yards, 4 TDs along with 44 carries, 648 yards rushing and one touchdown.

QB Devyn Dudones, Fleming Island, Jr.

According to head coach Clint Lyons, Dudones had over 1,100 yards passing with 8 TDs and threw for 20 extra points. Also has 385 yards rushing with 1 rushing TD and 5 extra points rushing. She also accounted for 2 receiving touchdowns and 4 receiving extra points.

WR/LB Gaby Fajardo, Stanton (Jacksonville), Sr.

According to Blue Devils head coach Chris Crider, Fajardo has great hands and a ton of flag pulls for a loss and interceptions. Crider said as coaches, we can’t take all the credit because she plays way above the X’s and O’s while saying Fajardo is a great kid, who never missed practice.

WR/DB Irvieona Gantt, Mandarin (Jacksonville), Sr.

For the season, Gantt had 60 catches, 769 yards receiving, and 7 touchdowns on offense. She also recorded 19 flag pulls and 6 interceptions on defense.

QB Ansley Hicks, Paxon (Jacksonville), Sr.

WR Lily Holden, Bartram Trail (St. Johns), Jr.

Holden had 47 catches for 823 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns in the Bears’ first season as a flag program. She becomes the first athlete from Bartram Trail to be selected to the Jaguars All-PREP Flag Football Team.

DB/WR Reese Holman, Paxon (Jacksonville), Soph.

Only a sophomore, Holman was a leader on defense with 78 flag pulls, 3 sacks, 7 interceptions with 4 of those returned for a TD. Holman also had 39 catches, 438 yards receiving, 9 TDs on offense.

ATH Kyra Jackson, Ed White (Jacksonville), Soph.

Leading the Commanders, went 148-of-253 passing for 1,233 yards and 13 TDs while rushing for 541 yards on 77 carries and 9 more TDs. On defense, she recorded 30 flag pulls, 1 sack, 1 QB hurry, 9 interceptions, and deflected 13 passes. Kyra was also selected as the Jaguars Flag Football Player of the Week during Week 2 of the season.

WR/QB/S/MLB Cheyenne Jenkins, Middleburg, Sr.

Head Coach James Black described the graduation senior as the vocal leader for the Broncos. Black also said Jenkins played with all heart and gave all she had to the team while also being like a coach on the field. At receiver she had 22 receptions for 402 yards and three touchdowns. At quarterback she threw for almost 400 yards and 3 touchdowns. On defense she was the last line of defense for on all passing attempts. She had over 15 solo flag pulls, over 15 passes defended and two interceptions.

McClain helped guide the Blue Devils to the State Quarterfinals this season.

ATH Ashley Mohrmann, Fletcher (Neptune Beach), Sr.

According to Senator’s head coach Bradley Ashmore, Mohrmann had over 1,000 yards receiving and 17 TDs, while recording over 100 flag pulls and 10 interceptions on defense. The Senators had their best season in program history that included reaching the regional finals.

QB Teaghan Moses, Clay (Green Cove Springs), Soph.

At the time the we received the statistics from Clay Flag Football Head Coach Jared Moses, Teaghan had went 248-of-359 passing, 2,079 yards, 31 TDs; 57 carries, 265 yards rushing, 4 TDs. She help guided the Blue Devils to the Class 1A State Quarterfinals this season and is the daughter of the head coach.

LB Gabi Musa, Fleming Island, Sr.

According to head coach Clint Lyons, Musa had 92 flag pulls and 8 interceptions and has chipped in with 485 yards of offense and considered the glue of the Golden Eagles’ defense this season.

QB Alexis Pabon, Mandarin (Jacksonville), Sr.

Pabon helped guided the Mustangs to the regional playoffs going 200-of-297 passing for 2,023 yards and 20 touchdowns. Pabon is also a recipient of Jaguars Flag Football Player of the Week honors during Week 3 of the season.

R Elyhana Perez-Stevenson, Ed White (Jacksonville), Soph.

Recorded 93 flag pulls and 25 sacks for the Commanders district championship season that included the Gateway Conference title and reaching the regional finals in the Class 1A playoffs.

RB/SS/ATH Tyra Pierce, Ed White (Jacksonville), Sr.

Rushed for 1,066 yards on 124 carries and scored 11 TDs, while hauling in 47 catches for 438 yards and 3 TDs. Pierce also accounted for 2 passing TDs on offense. Defensively, Pierce had 43 flag pulls, 2 QB hurries, and 13 interceptions. Pierce also punted for over 1,100 yards on punts as the primary punter for the Commanders. Pierce was the Jaguars Flag Football Player of the Week during Week 6 of the season.

QB/S Ashley Purdy, Sandalwood (Jacksonville), Jr.

The Saints quarterback threw for 3,080 yards and 20 TDs while also rushing for 117 yards and 3 TDs; Also accounted for 1 receiving TD on offense and had 2 interceptions on defense. This is Purdy’s third time being selected to the Jaguars All-PREP Flag Football Team and she also earned Jaguars Flag Football Player of the Week honors during Week 4 of the season.

WR/LB Katie Rodney, Fletcher (Neptune Beach), Sr.

According to Fletcher head coach Bradley Ashmore, Rodney was dynamic as a receiver with over 1,000 yards receiving and 17 TDs while also recording over 100 flag pulls and five interceptions on defense. Rodney was one of the key reasons that guided the Senators to their historic season including a historic victory in the regional semifinals over Fleming Island, the 2023 Class 2A state runner-up.

ATH Gaby Rourke, Atlantic Coast (Jacksonville), Sr.

The multi-sport athlete and University of Kentucky soccer signee had 1,045 yards receiving and 17 TDs with 87 receptions on offense. On defense, she recorded 16 interceptions with three of those returned for TDs and recorded 31 flag pulls. Rourke also averaged 37.7 yards as a punter as well for the Stingrays. Rourke also earned the final Jaguars Flag Football Player of the Week honors during Week 7 of the season.

DT Jer’Zhan Newton

Clearwater Central Catholic

More passionately known as Johnny, Newton stood out as a defensive tackle with the Fighting Illini who earned a lot of accolades following the 2023 season as a Consenus All-American along with securing the Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year Award and the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year Award. Those accolades come along with being a two-time All-Big Ten selection in 2022 and 2023. All of those accoldaes led the Commanders to call on Newton as one of their newest additions to the team at Pick No. 36. Newton was also a FloridaHSFootball.com Class 3A first-team All-State selection following the 2019 season.

CB Renardo Green

Wekiva (Apopka)

To cap off the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Renardo Green out of Wekiva call his call by the San Francisco 49ers at Pick No. 64. Green was a FloridaHSFootball.com second-team All-State selection in Class 8A as a utility athlete on defense following the 2018 season. Green singed with Florida State after his career concluded with the Mustangs and played in over 50 games as a Seminole.

DE Jalyx Hunt

Univeristy (Orange City)

Hunt became the first athlete out of University to be selected in the NFL Draft and also marked the first athlete from Houston Christian University to be selected in the NFL Draft. Hunt who started his college career at Cornell, found his best success at Houston Christian University that landed him an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl after the 2023 season. All of that led to the Philadelphia Eagles selecting him in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft at Pick No. 94.

SAF Kamren Kinchens

Miami Northwestern

With the second to last pick of the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft at Pick No. 99, the Los Angeles Rams gave the Bulls alum a call to bring him away from Miami-Dade County and over to the west coast of the country. Kinchens, who signed with Miami (FL) out of high school, was a FloridaHSFootball.com second-team Class 5A selection on defense following the 2020 season and was a first-team Class 5A selection on defense following the 2019 season.

OT JC Latham

IMG Academy (Bradenton)

Latham spent one year at IMG Academy before signing with Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide. He spent two seasons as the starting right tackle for the Crimson Tide which would earn him first-team All-SEC honors as a junior before he decided to declare for this year’s draft.

QB Michael Penix Jr.

Tampa Bay Tech

The Tampa Bay Tech alum was the first athlete from the Sunshine State to be taken in the 2024 NFL Draft when the Minnesota Vikings came calling at with the No. 8 pick in the first round. Penix hails a two-time All-State athlete by FloridaHSFootball.com as a second team Class 7A selection in 2016 and a first team selection in Class 7A in 2017. Penix who signed to Indiana after his successful high school career with the Titans eventually would transfer to Washington where he would excel with the Huskies including guiding them to the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship and was Heisman Trophy Finalist. Other accolades garnered inclued the Maxwell Award for 2023, AP Comeback Player of the Year in 2022 along with multiple All-Pac-12 selections in 2022 and 2023 and garnering a first-team All-American selection for 2023.

QB J.J. McCarthy

IMG Academy (Bradenton)

While not ultimately from Florida, McCarthy finished his high school career at IMG Academy earning him a spot in the Florida list when the Minnesota Vikings selected McCarthy with the No. 10 pick overall. McCarthy’s rise as a quarterback was capped off with winning the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship for the 2023 season while earning Big Ten Quarterback of the Year as well first-team selection to the All-Big Ten team for the season as well.

DE Dallas Turner

St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale)

FloridaHSFootball.com’s 2020 Class 7A Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team Class 7A All-State selection saw his number called when the Minnesota Vikings took him with the No. 17 pick overall. Turner capped off his high school career with a state championship winning season during the COVID-19 pandemic year after starting his high school career at American Heritage (Plantation) where he was a first-team selection in Class 5A in 2019. Signing with Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide, he earned Consenus All-American for the 2023 season that paired with his selection as the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year. He also garnered First-team All-SEC honors for the season before declaring for the NFL Draft.

CB Quinyon Mitchell

Williston

Not even considered one of the top prospects in the nation or even in Florida when he came out of high school, and eventually grey shirting with Toledo, Mitchell got the call in the first round at pick No. 22 by the Philadelphia Eagles. While Mitchell did not have a ton of accolades while he was in high school, he was a first team All-State selection in Class 1A by FloridaHSFootball.com after the 2017 season. Mitchell, while at Toledo, earned first-team selections for the All-Mac teams for 2022 and 2023.

CB Terrion Arnold

The 2020 Class 2A first-team All-State selection by FloridaHSFootball.com saw his number called at pick No. 24 when the host team of the 2024 NFL Draft saw the Detroit Lions draft Arnold.
