  1. Hope you don’t mind Josh just saw it posted online thought others may like to read some more insight: http://www.tcpalm.com/story/sports/columnists/jon-santucci/2017/10/24/does-new-fhsaa-playoff-format-work/796236001/

  2. Locally I really don't see any snubs on the week 10 projected playoff picture. The teams that's on the outside looking in has created that by bad or not so good play and scheduling. Starting at the Top 8a- Palm Beach Central, Atlantic, Park Vista and Seminole Ridge are all in and they all deserve to be at this point. Boca Raton on the outside looking in but they have a chance this Friday to put themselves in with a win over Atlantic so they control their destiny. 7a- Both Dwyer and Forest Hill are in at this point which again I think both deserve to be in. Will either make some noise in 7a? No they won't but based off the region they both deserve to be in. But we all know STA will be out out that region. 6a- Boynton Beach is the only possible and by no means they deserve to be in a playoff picture I don't think they won a game 5a- Suncoast only has I believe one loss on the season possible 2 but again yes they deserve to be in and at this point they are. Now again they won;t make any noise in the playoffs but deserve to be there and again we all know AHP will be coming out of that region so it don't matter to much of who make it into that region. 4a- Glades Central is the first potential argument here, at this point GC just outside the playoff entry but if they win out they should be in with wins over Newman and Pahokee which both are either Cat 1 or 2 wins so they control their fate. This a team that came on late and starting to pick it up but they started slow with a 35-0 loss to Oxbridge that would have helped them their with a win but that win would have been tough for most teams, and this where I agree with most that teams should be rewarded more points for playing a tougher schedule than beating 0-10 teams. 3a- Both Kings Academy and Oxbridge deserve to be in with American Heritage and Newman on the outside. Based of schedule Newman is a Cat 1 or 2 team but eye contact will show you that a loss to suncoast in a rout like by at lease 20 or 30 points will tell you they do not deserve to be in a tough 3a region which we assume Oxbridge will becoming out of facing CM in state. American Heritage had a great opportunity last week versus Glades Central to clinch a spot or at least close the gap but they loss head to head and this a team that has tons of talent similar to Palm Beach Gardens who most thought will make a run for a state championship. To be honest I think Booker T got the wrong end of the stick but name another team that you think was snub that WILL MAKE NOISE IN THE PLAYOFF? Booker T yes they would have but name another I think most people who are bashing the system not taking a look at how those teams got to this point... Not to many teams out their that's legit snub

  5. Rankings are media opinions. Do I think GC is better than some of the teams ahead of them? Yes. But, any system that is put in place will piss off someone. There never will be a perfect format.

  6. Then you could charge double at the gate so the FHSAA could get their split. Remember the first rule, the FHSAA must make some money off these kids.

  7. But, if you cut the classes in half, you're going to wind up with an even greater discrepancy between the top and the bottom. For instance, where classes are grouped, on average, by about a 387 students per school difference now...a move to fewer classes would mean schools being grouped with others, more than twice their size. I don't think that's a move to generate a more fair system at all.
    2 points
  8. The way you do classify them in the 4 classes is you take the 128 lowest enrolled schools and they are 1A And so on until all 512 teams are in district. The districts can fluctuate as well. No lower than 7 teams, no higher than 9 teams. It's so easy that it would never happen!!
    2 points
  9. Almost sounds sarcastic (hope it is. Lol) The way to fix it is to cut the classes by at least 3. more realistically 4 Have 4 classes with 8 team districts and 4 teams from each district make it in. 4 classes with 8 teams per district in 16 districts 16x8= 128 teams per class 128 x 4 classes = 512 teams there are about 560-570 teams right now. So that leaves about 50-60 as independents and Indy conferences like the SSAC.

  11. They both stereotyped each other. Funny things is, I would not be surprised if neither of them fit the other's stereotype, at least not completely.

  12. That sounds good to me. I know the good 1A schools in our area pretty much dominate the 4A teams but when you jump to 5A the numbers and depth start to wear on the 1A schools.

  13. Imagine how those teams would feel under the old system? That they have to be nationally good to just make the playoffs (forget about advancing in the playoffs).

  17. Yeah it would be for 2019 and we would definitely make the 1st trip.. Our coach don't Give AF about travel as long as we can get it approved. Traveled to Cocoa last year to get beat down LOL which is only about 40 miles less than traveling to Columbia for us.

  18. For once in a long time, I actually agree with ColumbiaHighFan. 5A-8A should not receive points for playing up. 1A-4A, if they play 5A-8A than they should receive a couple of points. The reason why 5A-8A should not receive points for playing up is that history doesn't show a huge advantage between those classifications. Meanwhile, the number of 1A-4A beating 5A-8A is not as high, so reward a point or two. Do not reward a point for 1A playing 2A, reward it for 1A playing 5A.

  20. He's right, to make it fair to everyone, they are averaging the points based upon 7 games played currently due to the hurricane, a Lincoln win would have negatively hurt the average due to their record this year. Here is Vero's issue going forward: the Oscar Smith and Pahokee games are keeping their average high, but potential wins against Ft Pierce Central (2-4) Dr Krop (3-4) and Sebastian (3-4) to close out the season are going to lower the average. If some of the previous opponents win it will help, but Pahokee potentially losing to Cocoa Friday will lower the points accumulated for the win against them. Also point increasing/decreasing for wins against Centennial and Treasure coast will cancel each other out as they play each other Friday. What Vero really needs is for Wellington and Olympic Heights to win their final games, but I doubt that will happen as Wellington has a bye and then a currently 6-1 Atlantic team to close out the season. Olympic Heights will probably win their final two games against Royal Palm and Santaluces, which will help. I think Osceola overtakes Vero in the points this week as they play a 5-2 George Jenkins team and close out the regular season against a currently 3-5 Lake Brantley.

  24. Understood who knows last time we saw Miami Norland in the playoffs was in 2012 fresh of their 15-0 season & we went up by 14 twice on them at fiu north only to lose 34-28 in the first round. Then the next year as 28 point underdogs in 2013 we beat Carol city in the first round and lost to Miami central in the second round after battling with them 14-17 in the 2nd qt of that game sooo that District is pretty familiar with us lol...I guess that’s a good thing @Joshua Wilson @peezy28 @badbird Lol

  28. Northwestern is the team to beat from Miami this year. And the FHSAA gave the 6A game a nightcap this year and I am so happy they demoted 7A to the afternoon. After the last few years, the 7A game at night got really boring when Aquinas was ahead by 35 or 40. Not fun.

  29. After a long bye week of no panther football Dillard will take the field again finally this Friday vs the Boynton Beach Which In last years game when the panthers traveld to BB there was a little bit of bad blood in a game where it was win your in a position to get in the playoffs or lose u go home. add that to Dillard band playing over B.B. band during halftime our fans being more rowdy as if it was our home game it wouldn’t surprise me if Boynton came down here with a little chip on their shoulder. Lmao lol But yeah even if they did they are eliminated from playoff contention Dillard has already clinched the District Champion. So nothing can really come from this but Dillard staying the course and keeping their win streak going && hoping we Get a favorable seed going into the playoffs. SCORE PREDICTION DiLLARD 38 Boynton Beach 6

  35. So...don't lose. If you do, better luck not losing next year. And that system was around through the mid-90's, young buck...it wasn't until then that we began to include runner-ups and/or wildcards to "expand the playoffs". My question is why expand them? So everyone gets a trophy? So the FHSAA makes money? I don't see those as viable reasons. I don't know if APK won as runner-ups or not...if they did, did they really deserve it? If they couldn't win their district?

  37. Why not go to an 8 game regular season and add 2 rounds to the playoffs that would give you 4 times as many teams in the playoffs and hardly anyone could be left out. Sure there would be lots of blowouts but we will have most everyone in.

  39. That may be subject to corruption or the appearance of such. Some teams would probably feel they were hosed by the powers on high!

  40. Actually you you don't get more points for beating a good team, you get more points for beating a team with a good record, that is a huge difference and the major flaw in this system. A team that has scheduled the weakest teams they could find and has gone undefeated is worth more to you than a defending state champ that scheduled all top opponents and is 6-4

  43. Nice breakdown on King's as that programs grows. Do know that 7-0 King's play @ 6-1 Benjamin next, but since King's has a bye this week, they'll meet up on 11/3 - in their mutual Rivalry game. What's interesting is that Benjamin, another growing program, hits the road and plays @ 5-1 Key West this Thursday. So going into the King's @ Benjamin game, both teams will have played 5 common opponents So far, King's and Benjamin both defeated Pine Crest, Westminster Academy, and Calvary Christian. Both played away at North Broward Prep, with King's winning big, Benjamin losing 31-28. King's won at home vs KW, with Benjamin getting a tougher chore away at KW - and that result should provide a decent comparison before they meet. Both teams have racked up big scoring numbers on O, King's avg about 45 pts/game thru a balanced ground/air attack, and Benj around 40 pts/game ... a bit more earned from the pass, so I believe the D and special teams/kicking game should be the truthteller. Think they're teams on the edge in their class this year, apparently serious about program development, so it'll be nice to see how they improve and beef up 3A in the future .... given the possibility that Oxbridge may slip due to emphasis on academics over athletics, CM dominating, AHD seemingly rebuilding, and the jury out on the remaining S FL 3A's. Last year, a 7-3 Benjamin lost @ an 11-0 King's ... 37-6.

  46. Jones is a very solid team. They could be the best in Metro Orlando, although there are about three other contenders for that spot. Being in Region 4, of 5A, they have a very tough road in 5A. They would have to clear, potentially, both Cardinal Gibbons and American Heritage. If, somehow, they could get through Gibbons and American Heritage, I believe Jones would win the 5A title. They are that talented. And, BTW, like him or not, Elijah Williams, their head coach, is competent. He had a couple wins over Apopka to prove it when he was at Orlando Oak Ridge. I am not sure about the full complement of assistants he has there with him.

  48. Yes, and no. I see the south end of Brevard County which is long (north to south), as the end of Central Florida. If Vero was right on the county line (as Lakeland is to Hillsborough), I could see the argument. In any case, historically, Vero has sometimes played in a District with the Palm Beach County teams. To the best of my knowledge in recent times (1990s to today), they have never played in a district with Central Florida teams. The point I am making is that since there is a dearth of games between Vero Beach and Central Florida teams (at least till the playoffs), it is kind of hard to put them in Central Florida. What basis would one really have to rank them? At least with the Brevard teams, there are enough games each year with the rest of Central Florida to have a pretty good idea where they would rank.
