  1. Every year everyone predicts Madison County. I think Dixie County has a good chance against them.

  5. Nolebull813, You would be correct, Fort Hill did run the Wing T and so does Orlando First Academy. I think First Academy has the athletes to play a more competitive schedule and be successful, but it's hard to to see how good the Royals are when they play teams like 4 Corners, Foundation, Agape, West Oaks. Credit where credit is due, they did beat Calvary Christian (Clearwater) and Lake Highland. Neither are super powerhouses, but they're not terrible either- I consider both solid high school football teams. MCC is finally healthy after playing a few games without their starting QB, Joaquin Collazo. He's the glue of the offense. I just think that MCC is a better football team than First Academy. It's worth pointing out that these two teams (MCC and TFA) have a significant history with each other as they were district rivals for years. This will be a good game, but I just see the firepower for MCC overwhelming TFA in the third and 4th quarters are a competitive first half.

  6. I believe Fort Hill in Maryland ran the Wing T and rushed for over 400 yards against Mel CC. But the Hustlers got some firepower on their offense and if they can get some quick scores those Wing-T/Option teams are not designed to play catch up. This game I think will show you if a tough scheudle like MCC pays off or if 1st Acad can prove if your good, your good no matter the scheudle!! I'm excited about this one the most in 3A!

  7. I have to agree. Rival games... No matter how good one team is over the other they always seem to play to another level against each other. The one bad thing about rival games seems to be that players get hurt more. Anything can happen in a rival game, all records go out the window. Imagine how good some teams could be if the coaches could get their team up for every game like it was a rival game.

  8. Unfortunate and frustrating that one of these teams will be out in 72 hours and these Region 2 and 3 teams..SMH.....

  9. Yeah but you have two of the best 3-4 teams in 5A playing in round one? If this class was super deep then that's great, but damn.

  10. Still want to know why that BTW game changed to @ Chaminade-Madonna so abruptly... Also I'm looking closer at this. Did North Broward Prep spoil the party for Gulliver Prep an open the door to boost Glades Central to jump Gulliver Prep? Had Gulliver beat 7 Win North Broward Prep last Tuesday in a late season apparent make up game, wouldn't Gulliver have likely sealed the 4 spot and likely have a higher average then GC? 1. University School 42.50 2. Monsignor Pace 40.38 3. Key West 40.13 4. Glades Central 37.33 5. Gulliver Prep 36.22 6. Booker T. Washington 35.44 7. North Broward Prep 35.33

  12. Most interesting field I have ever seen in Florida's top class. I haven't done pickem's in a while but will for the top half of 8A. I think we will see some excellent games. Predictions: Region 1 Spruce Creek 14 @ Winter Park 21 Apopka 34 @ Seminole 27 Boone 10 @ Flagler Palm Coast 14 Lake Mary 3 @ Wekiva 10 Region 2 Manatee 14 @ Osceola 31 Davenport Ridge 14 @ Dr. Phillips 27 Gateway 10 @ Sarasota Riverview 28 Olympia 7 @ Vero Beach 35 Right now I like Apopka & Wekiva in region 1, and Vero/DP/Osceola in region 2. My pick would be Wekiva and Vero Beach for the final four as of right now. That would be an amazing matchup of elite offense vs elite defense. Both of those teams can be upset, which makes it very interesting.

  13. Had to pull this out of the Muck because I would like to say my last piece on it and here from you all. Columbia Cat mentioned to me deep in one of these threads, that people who schedule cupcakes will be exposed and he is correct, Here is my response, where am I wrong Gentlemen: but that is my point. If there is that much "variable" in good teams and cupcakes, Then You don't take it out of the hands of the teams, the players, the Kids. You don't split the hair of top 8 when a Loss to a Top 5 team in a class is Trumped by another team who beats a lower class team who Cat 1s a weak district and favorable schedule. You put 16 teams out there Week 1 and let THAT expose the cupcakes, Not a computer or Committee. Last time I will say this until somebody wants to talk about Change in this Post season format in some manner. West Orange: Loses to Olympia in final seconds, 8A playoff team Cat 2 Loses to Dr. Phillips #1 team in State at the time (was leading at half), 8A playoff team Cat 1 Loses to Wekiva in final seconds, top 10 in State, 8A playoff team, Cat 1 Loses to Jones, Top 10 team in State, shut them out 2nd Half-JHS lowest point total playoff team, Cat 1 Beats Apopka, #1 Team in the State at the time. Finishes 6-4, with 4 game win streak on the way out, District Runner up to Wekiva, (Apopka 3rd in District) with all games away due to condemned stadium(Irma). Now I'm not saying put West Orange directly in Camping World Stadium, but that's not top 8 in the region????? Compare that to the rest of the region who is IN................ Hard to say that is not as good as, or better than 5, 6, 7, or 8, in 8A Region 1. One of which they beat Head to Head. This is why your numbers aren't reliable enough to parse an 8 team playoff. You like your system fine, keep it, but then you open up the first round to 16 teams and let the kids have the opportunity, your numbers can SEED teams. Otherwise you are going to have to weigh a lot more factors in your system. Because the only people you hurt by this is 30 seniors, most of who will never play again and playoffs are really the only reason they work all year long. I'm not playing my own violin, that goes for ALL schools, who ever gets put in this situation, these kids work year round with most of them only wanting the opportunity to get to one post season and then they are done, DONE, forever.........And you want to allow "points to determine that. You are telling me THIS system accurately distinguishing from 7-3 to 5-5, with varying wins, degree of difficulty and weight of classification???????????? Enough so to say 'These are the top 8".......Really????????? I say that because the FHSAA system says, "Executive Director has discretion to waive......" That was put there for a reason. You (meaning the powers that be) saw the gaming of the system, you heard the complaints coming in, you saw the unusually odd and multiple self-reporting immediately after district play closed, you saw the canceling of games to get better averages, you saw ALL of it, and then decided to ride out a not fully-vetted system, making a bad decision worse, especially when dealing with kids. And no one is saying flip back to the old, but when you see it is screwed up, You open the playing field and let the kids sort it out on the field. This system takes it out of the kids hands. With all due respect to you and all my colleagues and friends, you know this to be true.

  17. Predictions: Region 1 Spruce Creek 10 @ Winter Park 31 Winter parks offense to much to handle for Spruce Creek. Apopka 34 @ Seminole 35 Seminoles passing attack helps them edge out Apopka in a shootout. Boone 17 @ Flagler Palm Coast 24 Don't know to much about FPC but i'll give them the nod. Lake Mary 21 @ Wekiva 18 My upset pick in region 1, Lake Mary Sneaking by Wekiva on a late Field Goal. Region 2 Manatee 14 @ Osceola 35 Osceola to much for manatee Davenport Ridge 24 @ Dr. Phillips 21 My upset pick in region 2, Ridge gets a late score to move on. Gateway 10 @ Sarasota Riverview 38 Sarasota handles gateway Olympia 21 @ Vero Beach 31 I see Olympia giving Vero a good game but falling short. Right now I like the winner of the Seminole & Winter Park game in region 1, and Vero/Osceola in region 2. My pick would be Winter Park and Osceola for the final four as of right now.

  19. problem is they can't change their schedule. I don't see them making it next year either. Jones, Apopka, DP and Wekiva will all probably be top 10 teams next year in their class. If they win one and go 7-3 they still might not get in. 6-4 with the rest of their schedule and they are out.

  20. Lakeland schedule is a joke. Best win , if you call it that cause there really isn't one, a down Apopka team they beat by 7 at home. Nothing really sticks out in a very mediocre schedule. Beat a 4-6 Kathleen team 10-3? Ok what gives? We went to DC and beat Gonzaga 21-6. Running clock wins against Martin County,Heritage, Palm Bay. Beat Rockledge in first game of year 13-6. Did we get punished by new format for losing at Cocoa in 2OT? Just studying bracket much easier path in top half. Second round game against Lake Nona instead of Plant, followed by obvious home field game in possible Viera vs. Lakeland match-up. Viera earned the home-field advantage by scheduling tough, seems they are another casualty to new system.

  21. Here's mine: Go to 3 districts per region. 3 district champs get in, 3 district runner-ups get in. Remaining 2 playoff spots are wild-cards decided by points. 3 District champs get first round home game along with the highest point total team of the runner-ups/wild card teams. Seeding is based on points. Must have a .500 or better record to qualify for the playoffs. If a district champ or runner-up has a sub .500 record, additional wild-cards are added to take their place. Although going to 3 districts would mean more teams per district and less chance of having a sub .500 team in the champ or runner-up spot.

  22. I believe is you took top 16 teams, extended playoff 1 week backwards (9 game season, not 10), then you do pick up District Champ, Runner ups, AND and strong 3rd in a district. that is where the argument lies and what the system was originally meant to correct. Is a 3rd in a strong district stronger than the 2nd in a weaker district. That is what you see being the controversy this year. Instead of points or committees deciding that pick them both up and let them play. If they are good enough, they win 1st round.

  24. I will agree that there are many aspects of this new system that I personally don't like. West Orange got hurt by it, no doubt. And I can see where it does not look right that a team you beat head to head, even it was a close game, gets in and WO gets left on the outside looking in. My own point of view is that the old system minus 3 and possibly 4 team districts was better. In the playoffs, they could have always mixed and matched the brackets to get varying match-ups among different teams each year.

    Flair 30 for 30

Believe me, I go to pro wrestling classes during the off-season and in my free time and it makes you a different kind of sore every single time. But, it's also an incredibly fun experience. As for those guys who do it for a living, more power to them because I couldn't imagine that being my day job.

I liked it Truthfully you dont even have to be a wrestling fan to know who Ric Flair is and i learned a lot from this episode Honestly 30 for 30 is my favorite show on ESPN and i been looking forward to this one for months and it didn't disappoint

  28. People forget that even though wrestling is fake in a competitive stance, the physical and mental wear and tear is very real. They are entertainers. No one watches a movie and says this stinks because it's not real. Wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, John Cena, and The Rock are megastars. They are so famous and liked in Hollywood that big time movie stars get excited to meet them. Ric Flair and Charlie Sheen are my Hollywood heroes!!!!!

  30. So, I wrote up my Class 3A preview last week and thought it posted but it did not. Such is life! Anyway.. With the regular season over, I wanted to provide my final Class 3A rankings and throw some topics out there.. Final 2017 Class 3A Regular Season Rankings 1) Chaminade-Madonna Prep: Lions retain #1 spot after a solid win over previously undefeated University School. 2) Oxbridge Academy: Knocked off Palm Beach Lakes in a closer than expected contest, but still finishes the season a very strong 8-1. 3) Clearwater Central Catholic: Had a bye week for week 11, but finished season at 9-0. 4) Melbourne Central Catholic: Hustlers maybe 7-3, but demolished Palm Beach Central last week and are finally healthy. 5) Orlando First Academy: Undefeated regular season deserves respect. Receiving consideration: Taylor County (Perry), Lakeland Christian, King's Academy, Tampa Catholic, Calvary Christian (Clearwater), Heritage Delray. There are some amazing first round games this year that feature some of the states best going at it early. Here are the games I'm looking forward to: Tampa Catholic at Clearwater Central Catholic This is the grand daddy of first round playoff games in 3A. This is already one of the most heated historic private school rivalries in the state and now it's a first round playoff game. CCC is 9-0 and TC is 7-3. CCC finished with the top average points in Class 3A and thus will host every playoff game as long as they win. The teams met earlier this year in Clearwater with CCC winning 25-0. In the game, CCC racked up just under 450 yards total offense while limiting TC to under 150. While TC did lose to Jesuit for the 18th consecutive year- The Crusaders have looked very good on offense since week 4 (2nd half of the MCC game). Maxpreps has CCC ranked #27 in Florida and Tampa Catholic #138, so on paper CCC is the favorite, but no so fast (Lee Corso voice!). CCC, to me, needs to be on upset alert. TC is one of the most individually talented teams not named Chaminade-Madonna. Like CM, they have multiple power 5 offered guys and a plethora of former NFL players coaching. Tampa Catholic always loses to Jesuit and tends to rebound the following week. Unlike week 3, I think CCC gets the best of what the Crusaders of TC have to offer. This one will go the distance and the Marauders will have to rally late..but..expect an all time classic! Jessica's Pick: CCC 31, TC 28 (Overtime) Melbourne Central Catholic at Orlando First Academy After all the screaming, shouting and complaining- the Hustlers make the playoffs as the 4 seed in region 2. The Hustlers won't see a home playoff game, but the senior laden Central Catholic program has the pieces to be in Orlando regardless. Orlando First Academy is undefeated, but outside of a solid 22-20 win over Calvary Christian (Clearwater) the Royals haven't played anyone of particular note. Still, the Wing-T offense of First Academy can be tough to stop if you don't prepare for it. MCC maybe on the road, but they've also been on the road. Including the kickoff classic, the Hustlers have played at Cardinal Gibbons, BuFord GA, Fort Hill MD and a trip down to Archbishop McCarthy and up to Deltona. MCC appears to be as healthy as they have been and after a 50-6 thrashing of Palm Beach Central appear to be peaking at the perfect point in the season. Despite being undefeated MaxPreps has First Academy 141 and 7-3 MCC at 78. Is it an upset is a 4 seed defeats a 1 seed? In this case- no. MCC 42, TFA 14 Lakeland Christian vs Calvary Christian (Clearwater) This is an interesting game for a few reasons. #1, many people feel that Berkeley Prep or Ocala Trinity are more deserving than Calvary Christian. Calvary has played some strong teams including #1 seeds First Academy and CCC. They've also played playoff teams Indian Rocks and AFA. Lakeland Christian has a powerful offense if QB Tate Whatley is healthy, but after suffering a serious injury against Avon Park it's a toss-up if he'll play. Lakeland Christian is the 2 seed and ranked #96 on Maxpreps while Calvary is #147. LCS has a couple of key wins including Avon Park and Berkeley Prep so I can dig LCS being a favorite ONLY if Tate Whatley plays. If the QB doesn't play it's hard to see them staying on the field with Amari Bruney, Deandre Ferguson and the rest of the Warrior football team. Not knowing if the QB will play really hampers my prediction here, but I'll go with.. Calvary Christian 35, Lakeland Christian 21 Chaminade Madonna vs American Heritage Chaminade Madonna is ranked #12 in Florida according to MaxPreps, AHD is #181 and that's probably the closest this game will be. That said, it won't show on Friday night, but I do think the Stallions are heading in the right direction. This is just Chaminade's year, but if the Stallions can muster a strong effort and pick up a few transfers- they bring almost their entire team back in tact for 2018. I could see these teams meeting in years to come to much more competitive games, but the 2017 version? Snooze fest. Chaminade-Madonna by 38 over American Heritage (Delray). Oxbridge vs Kings Academy Contrary to popular belief, I don't think Oxbridge will go "into that good night" after this season- but I also believe this is their best chance to win a state championship for a while, the north is going to loaded in 2018. That makes the 2017 playoffs even more important. The Thunderwolves can't get caught looking ahead to MCC or Chaminade and I don't think they will. Kings has had a strong season, but staying on the field with Oxbridge is more than they're capable of. Oxbridge is ranked #32 in Florida according to MaxPreps, King's is 93. Oxbridge by 35 over King's Academy. Other Predictions I'm leaving to people more familiar with the teams: Taylor County by 21 over Newberry. Ft. White by 7 over FSU School Benjamin by 13 over Everglades Prep

  33. Unfortunately that does nothing for the seniors who will graduate this year...... kind of thought the whole idea was to get the best of the best in, that would mean teams that schedule tough will have a loss or 2 but some good wins, Not schedule average teams and get in on points. Some of these "great match ups" yall see out there, aren't going to be a great as they look.

  34. You guys are still killing me about this Kowboys/Hawks reschedule or not reschedule. Viera is not a #1 seed because they got only 33 points for a loss to a top 6 team in all classifiations in our state (they did lose to Rock.) Cocoa. And somehow the Dreadnaughts got 35 points for kicking Bartow's 2 - 8 butt. Side note; Kathleen is better than Winter Haven, Gaither, East River, Wire Grass, and Lake Nona. Lakeland, Viera, and Plant should be pleased the computer kicked them out,

Think Rockledge is Tier 3. I believe Osceola fans would agree, they played them and Viera, and Clearwater CC tough. After switching FSU commit to QB full-time beat Cocoa and destroyed Palm Bay and Merritt Island. Only thing holding them back early season was coaching. Hosting Cardinal Gibbons in 2nd round should score them plenty of points with you win or lose. Probably top 5 game in state second round.
