  3. If they have all been there since 9th grade then someone does a great job spotting talent at an early age. Maybe whomever is responsible for recruiting talent should try being a college recruiting coordinator.

  4. I don't know him that well but have never heard a bad word said about him. It's hard to say who is going to build a winning program in this area. No loyalty at all. Fort Myers will always be decent because of coaching. Not " elite " as most posters use the term. I think we were at the Armwood/Dwyer game in '10 when South Fort Myers lost to Norland in the semi-final at Traz. South was a highly recruited team with Sammy Watkins and Dallas Crawford who could have played elsewhere. I have no shame in bringing up the state championship trophies at Fort Myers. 3 straight girls basketball championships, and probably a good shot this year. Our '10 boys state basketball championship was special. Back to back Floyd E Lay top sports program in 6A. Not ashamed to be a grad of that school, not to mention I was the valedictorian my senior year. Rock solid 1.5 gpa summer school session B. Look forward to seeing you in Daytona.

  5. THAT'S whatcha grandpappy said! Would you boys like your headstone in cursive or block lettering? Jist fer sheeeeaaaats and giggles though! I wonder which one of dem studs is gonna cover our 6'5", 235lb. TE, verballed to FSU? Or our four star RB verbaled to Awebun? And I wonder if they will be playing EVERY defensive snap? Because we rotate ten receivers! And we see how many plays we can run in SIXTY SECONDS! And as for your county having 300 schools! Most of the talent goes to TCA! If we utilized just two players, from the surrounding eleven schools to our rural county, like you boys do. The FLAAAAWDA ALL Stars couldn't touch us! Think NOT? THESE are players we've played, who you may have heard of. Tyreek Hill, Alexander Wright, Deion Branch, Rashad Greene, Malcolm Mitchell, Robert Nkemdiche, Wayne Gallman, Alvin Kamara, and Mitch Hyatt? We played those guys a total of twenty three times in high school. And if those names don't ring a bell! Two were the FASTEST men in the NFL at that time! Two are CURRENT NFL SUPERSTARS, one had nine catches in the Super Bowl, and three others started on National Championship teams at FSU and Clemson! A lil history lesson for you there pilgrim! Our weakest team in the last decade, lost 17-14 to USA TODAY #10 American Heritage, PLANTATION! After our future All American kicker had missed THREE forty yard or closer, FG's! We tuned up 10-2 Tampa Plant, 40-8! And we beat state runners up Madison Co.! We beat USA TODAY #9 Hoover 35-14, the week after Miami Central BARELY salvaged a 20-19 win over the Bucs! And our team was the JUNIOR version of our 2015 National Championship addition! Two years ago, we barely got by Bishop Sullivan, Va., the best team in that state! Two weeks after they had lost to St. Frances Academy 29-8! We won 38-7! And last season, we beat one of your namesakes from ole MIZZZZOU, Trinity Catholic, 42-14! They won their state championship 40-13! Their only other loss was a triple OT loss to East St. Louis, Ill. 33-30! And you boys are playing us as a fill in, because East St. Louis BACKED OUT! But as that great Amuuurican, Tom Bodett often says, "we'll leave the light on for you!"

  7. I honestly believe that you're looking at this through rose-colored glasses. Here's a quick summary of what took place. The bill that ultimately passed the legislature was sponsored by Kelli Stargel, a State Senator from Lakeland (who currently sits on the FHSAA Public Liaison Advisory Committee). The legislation was introduced a year or two after the FHSAA ruled ineligible five football players who transferred to Lakeland. Those sponsoring the legislation dressed it all up in academic clothing ('let the math prodigy go to whatever school is best for him; let the clarinet player choose whatever school she thinks is best for her'), but don't let this fool you. This was all about athletics. The folks in Polk County had an ax to grind and Stargell became their lumberjack. This was a power play, clear and simple, to take away some of the control that the FHSAA had, especially with regard to transfers. And, for obvious reasons, the folks in Lakeland have been happy with the results. If you would prefer a lengthier, perhaps more objective, discussion of the issue, click on this link: https://news.wfsu.org/post/florida-high-school-athletic-association-cries-foul-over-bills-limiting-its-power Bottom line, think what you will about the FHSAA, but on the issue of transfers, their hands got tied by the state legislature a few years ago. Note the foreshadowing quote from the 2013 article about why the FHSAA opposed the legislation: the FHSAA claimed the new law could "pave the way for unfairness on the field and reduced quality of tournaments." Roger Dearing and the folks at the FHSAA knew what would happen if they didn't have the ability to police transfers . . . and this is exactly what we're now seeing.
