  1. Dwyer - Matt Elam UF/Baltimore? I think his brother Abram (Abe) Elam (Cardinal Newman-West Palm Beach, '00) was actually a better professional (104 games across 7 seasons), but Matt was a much bigger name out of high school. Abram did play at Notre Dame and eventually found his way to Kent State. Kaiir Elam, class of 2019, signed with UF, is Abram's son.

  2. Glad to see them doing this. Always surprised that this doesn't happen more often. I stand by the fact that I think Week 1, the local pro sports teams should offer up their stadiums for free for the experience. https://www.news4jax.com/sports/inaugural-bold-city-showcase-features-3-football-games-to-open-season

  3. Prominent South Florida high school coaches Tim “Ice” Harris and Benedict Hyppolite will join the upstart Florida Memorial University football staff, sources told FootballScoop on Sunday. It was not known as of publishing time what roles the two will have on the FMU staff. From FS: "Florida Memorial announced in late May it will re-launch its football program to begin play in the fall of 2020. An HBCU based in Miami Gardens, Florida Memorial played football from 1927 through 1958. The school presently enrolls roughly 1,800 undergraduates and competes in NAIA."

  8. I was on that 93 Deerfield team that lost to them in the state semis. Best HS team ever. Had the defense to stop the Troy Davis led Southridge team

  11. Clearwater Academy dropped Venice to go play Elder, Ohio the same date.

  12. It sounds like Clearwater Academy dropped Venice, not Venice dropping them. AA Christian (which is what most are going to call them) has been around a few years as a school, but this will be their first year as a program. They are going to play the schedule that Grant Technical & Education Center was going to play.

  13. And that blew up two of my interviews at media day... I found out Saturday morning that both were leaving for Florida Memorial. Florida Memorial can trace its roots back to St. Augustine when the campus was located near what is now present-day West King Street and Holmes Blvd.

  14. Games will be at Bolles School. Not only is there a problem with the grass at the pro stadiums, but security costs also make it almost cost-prohibitive to have a high school game now at a stadium unless you have millions lying around with nothing to do. As for Tampa... until they get away from the centralized funding madness... this kind of event will never happen there.

  21. Bradenton Southeast, led by Coach Paul Maechtle and Peter Warrick, had a 29-1 record in Warrick's junior and senior seasons, with Warrick scoring 27 touchdowns in the 27 games he played. Southeast’s lone loss, to Riverview in 1994, came with Warrick out of action. In 1993, Warrick’s junior year, Southeast became the first team in Florida prep history to finish a season with a 15-0 record, en route to the Class 4A state title, an accomplishment that would be matched by Jacksonville Bolles one day later. Southeast beat Jefferson, Baron Collier and Deerfield Beach on the way to the state finals in Daytona Beach, where they defeated Panama City Bay 20-17. In 1994, with Warrick at quarterback, Southeast repeated as state champion, rolling up a 14-1 record, finished with a 19-17 state final victory over Ocala Vanguard, led by future NFL quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Warrick also led Southeast to an undefeated 35-0 basketball season that year, capped with the Class 5A state championship.

  22. Good ending, but that was just a kickoff return for a touchdown. I think the ending for the 98 Soul Bowl between Northwestern and Jackson or the ending of the State Championship game between Northwestern and Seminole were far more exciting.
