I wanted to put together a list of the number 1 team in the state for every year before the playoffs started. Back in the day teams would claim mythical titles. I will be working on this to put together the all time list. I request it be pinned and highly encourage historians to state the case for any year from 1907-1962

How about Wakulla everyone? ...130-44 over 15 years. That's a 75% winning percentage

The list is not a measure of titles. And 15 years is a nice round number for trending.

Something I left off - The 7-6 loss to Okeechobee was reversed the next day and given as a forfeit win due to Okeechobee having players who were in their 20s. The prior 3 seasons for Wauchula 1930 : 9-0-1 1931: 8-1-1 1932: 6-2-3

The same news paper article I got that from stated that promoters wanted a bowl game between Wauchula and Lakeland as both were unbeaten but Lakeland refused. Wauchula and Lakeland have only ever played twice 1935 and 1926; Lakeland winning both.

1915 Manatee County High School football team was undefeated and was unscored on. They played 6 teams, playing Playing Hillsbourgh HS and Plant City Twice that year. The played post season St Pete High and defeated them having to travel by boat to play the game. At that point they were considered the best team in the southern region of the state, Gainesville HS was considered the best team from the Northern region of the state. They traveled 2 days to play Gainesville HS for the mythical state title defeating them 10-0.

Yea, I was more talking about them being an example of falling apart last couple years because of transfers leaving. Not how they were built.

One thing you have to keep in mind with Maxpreps, they use a computer rating, not ranking. So it's easy to throw some numbers in a CPU and let it do the work as opposed to actually evaluating teams with the "eye test." Now I know you can't see every team and that will make too much since to do so. I think Dillard is better than at 4-5 teams ranked ahead of them. And they play tougher opponents than most of those teams too. If they were in another region, I could see them making 3rd or 4th round easily. Now as far as almost upsetting MC last year....not too sure about that one. Lol! The game was closer than years past, the end result was a 15 point win.

Yep Viera won that game but lost to them the previous season when they hosted them. Cocoa also played them and lost by a field goal if I recall.
