  1. That's a fair point but there were a lot of teams ranked behind Columbia that I think are better.

  2. Some quick thoughts: 1A: Nobody will really care, but the expansion to 6 teams for 1A is way too much. A 2-5 Fort White is on the verge of making the playoffs. No reason fr that. Madison County, even with 2 losses, still is 2nd in the Classification for RPI and #1 in Region. Pahokee's OWP keeps them having a shot at the playoffs. They still need some wins. 3A Trinity Christian (Jax) sits at the #6 seed. Imagine being the #3 seed and seeing that waiting for you. At the same, TC (Jax) is only .004 away from Wolfson (Jax) overtaking them. This will be a good test of scheduling vs winning games. King's Academy in danger of not making playoffs. I suggested at the beginning of the year that it would be hard to replace all the seniors they lost. 4A Gadsden County might make the playoffs again (I did call them the team that would be most improved after going winless last year) 4A Region 1 is really bad. Miami Carol City still holding onto a spot.

  3. Apopka's three titles were won from the district runner up slot.

  4. Yeah but sometimes that's just the hand you get dealt Though history has shown you don't have to be a district champ to win a title or even make it there

  5. Armwood is a pretty good team no doubt. I just don’t trust them against anyone in their radar.

  6. please don't use RPI to say how good a team is.

  7. undisputed? Is this college football in the 30's? There is no undisputed high school national champ. The games aren't played on the field. IMG is the best team in Florida. Lakeland and STA are the only two others that might be elite this year. No one else is elite this year.

  8. You would be correct. Lake Wales is 14+ points better, and I would bet alot of money on that.

  9. The Lakeland/Armwood game should be pretty epic. I haven't had a chance to see Edgewater yet but I've seen STA, Lakeland, and Armwood in person this season. After the eye test, I have STA #1 followed by Lakeland then Armwood but it's really close IMO. I think anyone of those teams could beat each other on a given night.

  11. Atlantic probably needs scores from their defense or special teams to win. Very stout defense, but challenged on offense.

  12. I agree Washington could pull it off but their offense is just not that good to me. Yes they're scoring 30 a game but they haven't really faced a solid defense (not good/great) besides West Florida and Milton. The PF game would have answered some questions but the game was called off in the 3rd quarter.

  13. This is going to be a good game. Can the Tigers rebound from the disappointing loss last week?

  14. Both Columbia and Escambia had close games with Pine Forest. Escambia's offense is better than Pine Forest and the defense is about the same between the 2. So you think Washington is the best team in their district ?

    Venice vs Cocoa

Dont know anything really about Cocoa, but the loss to Riverview tells me all I need to know about this Venice team's lack of elite physicality on the line of scrimmage this year. You have a backup QB that couldn't start at Manatee or Plant City, but yet he's managed to do just that this year for Venice at different points this year. My guess is, if Dollacosta is the least bit still injured or Peacock worries about re-injuring him Friday night against Cocoa, Peacock saves him for next week against Manatee for the District Championship......because the Venice offense is limited big time with Overstreet at QB. Same with Taylor at RB, if he's still out Friday night.....Venice doesn't have a chance against Cocoa........I say neither plays because Peacock wants them healthy for next week against Manatee.....Cocoa 31 Venice 21

  18. Or when you swing by the office Thursday morning before heading to the airport and just as you're about to walk out the door, you remember you have to get your picks in before you leave. And your wife is texting you again asking why you're not already home to pick her up . . .

  19. I'm not counting Columbia out but I certainly wasn't buying their #3 ranking either. They probably have about as good a shot as any team in the North at making a trip to the finals.

  22. Didn't Carol City lose it's Head Coach in mid August to a rebirth at Florida Memorial (College) ? That could have a bearing on their inconsistency. Also Ice Harris of BTW went their too (at that late date).

  23. Time will tell. What I do know is that Lakeland has the talent to win again. I can't speak too much for Armwood, but regarding Edgewater, the team they have this year has many of the same faces as last year. They were juniors and sophomores then, this year they are seniors and juniors. Their QB is not as good an athlete as the kid they had last year, but he is a true QB unlike 2018 when they had an athlete at the position. If this year's Lakeland team gets past Armwood and is playing as well as last year's did, then I believe they would beat Edgewater again. But if they are a little bit behind last year's team, Edgewater has a decent chance.

  24. Just by your definitions this list is wrong. ”Average 36-60” The top 36-60 teams in FL are probably in the top 5% nationally. Someone do the math. I don’t know how many teams there are nationally. Generally the #50 team in FL is somewhere around 400-500 nationally. With 20,000 teams in the US that’d be top 2% to top 2.5%. This name/ranking convention would work for a smaller state like Maryland or Alabama. On a national scale the top 25 in Florida would all be “great”. Most would win state titles in 20 or more states. I’d then say the top 4-6 depending on the year are elite and the top 7-15 are just a notch below.
