  1. As a Dr. Phillips football alum, I was hoping for a chance to make the trip back to Dr. Phillips so my kiddos could see where their pops played (now that they are a little older) and have a chance to coach against some of my former teammates and buddies. Instead, we will have our first meeting as a program with Osceola. The 1 memory that has been etched in my mind since 1999 about Osceola... This may be a little dramatized but this is how I remember it. In 1999 we at Dr. Phillips had a massive match up with defending 5a state champ Osceola and their superstar running back Willie Green. We knew he was a stud but figured we have seen similar backs in Alex Haynes from Evans. Fast forward to my first series against them. I great read on a screen to than running back and state record holder Willie Green. I came up full speed knowing that I was going to knock him silly... between my speed and strength and a perfect read on the play, I was primed for a highlight hit on the states best back. As he turned and saw me coming, he yelled "RED LIGHT"...time stopped. Willie's eyes got big and as I stood there frozen. He looked me deep in the eyes and said "please don't do this to yourself man." I felt bad but was wondering why he misspoke and said "to yourself" because I was about to lay him out. Willie looked at me and said, I am sorry. I was confused. I noticed him smile... he snapped his fingers and said GREEN LIGHT. I stood there confused but decided not to take his advice and went in shoulder first against the states leading running back. As I soared backwards through the air, I noticed how wonderful air was and how lucky we are to have it. As I hit the Earth, I couldn't help but notice Willie had a piece of gum stuck to the bottom of his cleats. As I tried to stop him and let him know, he seemed to really not like the idea of gum on his shoe because he used my stomach to try to get the gum off his shoe. I did not realize he and I were making a trade...he gave me his gum and in return took every ounce of air I thought I owned. I searched the ground for any air I could find as I watched the man they called "Smoke" zoom to the end zone for a touchdown. After the game he was very humble and apologized and asked me if I was able to find some air anywhere. I did. I am reminded of him and Osceola every time I look at my forever mark on the side of my stomach. This Friday I'd like to replace that memory with Steinbrenner's First Regional Title. GO WARRIORS!

  2. Perhaps a little dramatic lol. But that man was on a different level lol. 108 career rushing td's to break Emmitt Smith's record if I remember right

  3. I would not be. I think Northwestern is the best team in Dade. In fact, they may be the best in South Florida this year, even better than St. Thomas.

  4. Why can't Wharton be relevant? When last Wharton game you went to? I see I had you in your feelings to go name calling. Where is Steinbrenner located? Did you go to that game? Why did they get beat by 60? What type of offense does Wharton run?

  5. Western has been thrashing their opponents with solid play on both sides of the ball. Offense is lighting it up with six running clocks and outscoring opponents 476-64. A few trash teams but impressive win against Palmetto and a 5-pt loss against a solid University School common opponent which clocked Columbus this year 35-0. Their defense has been lights out except for the STA game, recording 6 shutouts. My Explorers on the other hand have had a solid season but performed well-below the initial hype in August. New coach, some lack of true leadership on the field, rare kicking woes (against Dillard in particular LOL!) and way too many penalties for an Explorer team. Starting QB hasn't progressed much if at all this year, new sophomore QB getting lots of reps because of it. Losses against BTW and U School are forgivable, but the blow outs in those games weren't. Defense just quit. They've got the tools offensively, but D is really suspect this year. I see an exciting, high scoring game, and I'm not counting my Explorers out. That said, I think if Western gets out early, it could get ugly. I seen us fold once that happened twice this season The defense better get ready to play 4 quarters. Prediction: 41-30, bad guys.

  6. I am not convinced that STA this year is better then they were last year. Very good, yes; great, I am not sure.

  10. The above was pretty dramatic. I don't think this year's Osceola has a Willie Green who was a very special player. But I do think this will be a very good game that could go either way. Winner has a decent chance of playing for the 8A title, too!

  11. I believe Josh is wrong on that call. MNW will out physical AHP in my opinion.

    Lakeland @ Armwood

Here, I'll sum up the debate for everyone: Lakeland may win or Armwood may win. You can thank me later.

    Lakeland @ Armwood

Despite the concerns over two Lakeland players, Lakeland's offense was just fine last week, but 166 Yards of penalties did not help. Including 6 personal fouls. Lakeland was sloppy and listless on offense. Just like last years Kathleen playoff game in the cold. The defense got gashed by a well balanced team and the Tech running back. It was this side of the ball that really struggled this week. Again look forward to this game.

  19. Didn't know that - maybe it's their time. They just have had a string of bad luck making out of the first two rounds. Last year they were comparable if not better than Columbus on paper, and they fell apart in that game: dropped TD passes, massive penalties in the first half and at least two pick 6 maybe 3 To's in all - all on their home field. I'm not saying they can't pull it off, they CAN. but Coach Glenn can't have a showing like that against Vero. I think this years team is actually better than the one Columbus beat last year. And Columbus is worse!

I'd prefer not to cast a vote. Partially because I'm leaning towards thinking Armwood will take them. If I knew Lampkin and Glinton were going to play and be in the ballpark of 100%, it would make me feel more confident. But, my hunch is they won't play at all. Regardless, this is a game where mistakes and big plays will make all the difference. Both teams are VERY capable of scoring with both their defense and special teams. It could get a bit lopsided if one of the teams gets a strip score, pick-6, punt block, kick return etc.

  21. Them people went up top on Dillard too! And Cent rbs better than Fort Myers rbs and Dillard qb looks suspect... Just my opinion from videos I've watched. I'll definitely be checking in when there is a break in coverage at our game to see what's going on.

    Regional Finals

Problem could have been FHSAA guaranteeing a top four seed to district champions. For instance, in 5A, Region 2, the 3 & 4 seeds were a joke. They should have been the 7 & 8 seeds. District champ should be guaranteed a spot in playoffs, but no way they should be guaranteed a seed in top half of bracket.

  24. Yes Central has 3 loses.. But is Dillard one of those 3 teams that defeated Central? If yes well Central in trouble...... From the video I seen a lot of miss tkls and that line look a lil suspect.. Y’all have size but don’t look dominant but I’ll take your word since you have more insight...

  26. Coach Weiner and Coach Mesick are very good friends. Coach Mesick asked Coach Weiner to come speak to his team and Coach Weiner obliged. That said, it was not worth mentioning in the article about the game, especially since Clearwater lost. Beyond that, non-issue.

  27. the cowboys just need to focus on Lake minneola. I was at the game. They played really good in spots and very sloppy in other spots. They've got to tighten up some turn over issues and they need to run the ball more effectively. The defense looks good enough. And the offense is good when clicking but it goes into cold spells. I can see them beating mineola because the games at home and they are playing fairly well overall But I'm not sure they get past Escambia or Robert e Lee unless they played a perfect game. Not sure they have that in them

  28. There was some talk about a 4-6 Braden River should not have been in the playoffs over a 6-4 Sebastian River team, despite the loss, I think the RPI system got it right this time. Having seen Sebastian in person, I think they would have gotten blasted by Palmetto, at least Braden River made it a competitive game.
