  1. 112 is average intelligence and almost above average. Lots of people on this board would be happy with a 112 IQ. Mainly the band wagon fan from up North that loves the team that plays in the smallest class with the most students and then talks sh*t about other programs and calls them trash. I won't mention any names.

  4. Maybe the FHSAA and school administrators should grow a backbone (I would liked to have used another term, but you probably get the point) and investigate if recruiting by other schools was responsible for the demise of football at Hallandale. This is a disgrace and too many people involved in HS football are willing to just say "oh well". Your school could be next; it's time to address recruiting and actually do something about it.

  10. Don’t know if this is final for the rest of the year BUT WOW!!!! JUST WOW!! not only do we have them on the schedule for week 3 but all I could think about is all the teams who now have to find another game/the fan base/ just the over all sadness of this, all because kids can just up & transfer at a drop of a dime like this to help one school & decimate the other.

  12. I dont consider IMG a Florida team. Too many of their players are from out of state and are here on a business trip and have no ties to the state. Compare that to a program like STA where nearly all of their players are from south FL at least, so I will pull for them when they travel out of state. Having already ripped IMG for what they are, I can't blame any kid at all for going there. I've been on that campus and those facilities are without compare.

    Player eligibility!

I am totally about the student - athlete, student comes first always. That's exactly what I would expect from a coach and it's great that your priorities are in the right order. With 5 players below a 2.4 gpa, it does seem that your staff is working in the right direction, but still have a way to go. As I've never been a coach and haven't had to focus on the grades of so many kids at the same time, I don't profess to know how you feel because so often, coaches assume the role of quasi-father and authority figure to many kids. I can only imagine how overwhelming it can get, and with the pandemic and remote schooling, it has made the task of educating kids even more difficult, but it's admirable what you coaches do for the kids. Is there a member of your staff whose primary responsibility is to track the academic progress of your student/athletes especially those that may tend to struggle meeting academic requirements, not only during the football season, but during the entire school year, including Summer school if necessary? I ask that not to be critical, but to understand the task that you face. If this position doesn't currently exist, it may be a thing to consider. I wish you the best; don't give up on those kids.

  14. From people talking, seems like they were able to get 25-30 kids together, but they found out last couple days like 15-20 of them weren’t eligible. So, those kids wouldn’t be eligible anywhere else regardless. They have a picture online of a practice a week ago that shows about 25 kids, so that story kind of fits. In general though, if your school doesn’t have a particular sport then you can file and play at nearest school or zone school that has that sport without actually transferring. It is usually helps kids at small charters or education centers that want to play sports.

  15. So, if you're Hallandale and/or Broward County, what do you do now? On the one hand, you'd hope that Hallandale would circle the wagons, try to hold on to every kid they have (especially the younger ones) in hopes that they'll be able to field a team next year and the years after. That said, I can't imagine being one of the kids (if there are any) who stuck it out and didn't transfer and who now won't be able to play football this season. That would suck. Possible solution: allow any and every senior (perhaps juniors, too?) to transfer to another school in the district and immediately become eligible to play this season for their new school. Get the FHSAA on board to provide immediate waivers to those kids. Anyone know if this has ever happened before? I don't recall seeing it. P.S. I hope the coaches still get their stipends!

  17. I can’t give you official source, but if you look on Twitter the other teams on their schedule are already shuffling. They had Ft. Lauderdale and Western week 1 and 2. Both those teams have agreed to play each other week 3 now to make up the lost game vs. Hallandale. Heritage is advertising for a game 9/25, which was when they played Hallandale.

    Player eligibility!

I am totally about the student - athlete, student comes first always. Our teams average gpa last year was a 2.8. With this issue that we have now it only affects 5 players, which means I only have 5 players below a 2.4 gpa. So it seems we are working in the right direction

  25. It sounds like you and the AD need to have a meeting and figure a way to meet your team's practice requirements and still schedule mandatory study halls. It's hard to argue against the AD's motives; he wants to make sure these kids are successful academically so they can be successful in life in the future; football should not be the first priority if it gets in the way of a kid's education. Some kids are well disciplined when it comes to their studies and may not need a mandatory study hall, but to exempt the kid with the 3.9 gpa from the study period could be divisive for the team. Kids should not be encouraged to try for a 2.0 gpa just so they can be eligible to play football; they should be encouraged to excel in the classroom so they meet or exceed the same college academic entrance requirements that non-athletes must achieve.

    Player eligibility!

Good thing we won the game anyway! From what I was told, St Cloud had the same issue last friday night. At least that was what I was told. It is a large case of CYA, but in my opinion, without logic applied. Calculate the gpa, with a "0" or "f" and if its above 2.0 the kid is good. My principal also sees it that way and is supposed to be working on that fix. I am being told it is the state, not the county! So that may be the first incorrect thing I am being told. My ad has the best electron microscope for anything that is not exactly what the ad wants. Takes my players off the field for mandatory study halls, during practice time. 'because we dont want them to become ineligible", Doesnt matter if the kid has a 3.9, still has to attend. If you dont go to study hall, you may end up not playing! My ad thinks ad stands for athletic disciplinarian. I know why it is tough here and why so many coaches leave. This situation is very tough to handle when you are always being thrown a curve ball at the last minute. This is but just 1 of many things. Now on a positive note, the ad truly means well and thinks what is being done is in the best interests of the students.

  28. He may be right. But to me that's not a smart move on the part of Edgewater unless BM pulled out. They already have Venice who is clearly a tough opponent. Why would you choose to play them without the benefit of a game under your belt when you have them shortly after?

  34. Maybe all the other schools in the area could get together tomorrow night at a local watering hole and hold a fantasy-like draft for the remaining Hallandale players.

  35. Well, all those transfers officially killed Hallandale. They are unable to field a team. Word is they thought they had enough guys even after the transfers to keep playing, but just found out a bunch aren’t eligible and folded. Heritage looking for a new week 1 to replace it.
