I had a feeling they would lose but was hoping that they would put up a fight after losing last week. Like Bobby Bowden would have said, Dad Gummit man...

  4. For those that are interested IMG will be playing Auburn HS in Alabama Friday at 7 pm. It will be live on You Tube. Auburn's only loss was a close game to 10-0 Central HS of Phenix City, AL. Auburn plays all of it's games in Alabama and apparently does not travel out of state like IMG does. I watched Auburn against Bob Jones and they seem like a pretty disciplined team although don't know if they are in the same league as IMG.

    IMG 7-0 @ Auburn HS 8-1

Yeah people from all over the world bc that's how they do it. Can't win with players in Florida only

  6. 35-13? I thought it'd be a close one.

  7. This will be a relatively easy win for IMG. Even though Auburn was in the Alabama 7A title game last year, they are not on IMG's level.

  8. From afar, Columbia has been very inconsistent this year. Transitioning to a new HBC can do that sometimes.

  9. But I wasn't picking with my heart, I did really think Columbia would beat Raines but I made the bet so I need to honor it

  10. They pack stadiums all over the country when they play opponents out of state. And, they probably have more people in their home stands than are in attendance at many high school football games in Florida. And, I did state "for those that are interested" which you obviously are not.

  12. Jambun, I have a hypothetical question for you: A coach on the sideline sees one of his players being held, so he brings this matter to the attention of one of the officials. And to make this hypothetical easy, let's say the holding call involved linemen, the call is normally one that the head referee would make, the coach bringing up the issue of the missed call is the team's head coach, and he voices his displeasure, loudly but politely, with the white hat. I'm guessing this scenario plays out a couple of times at every game every Friday night. Here's my question: Is it appropriate for the ref to say to the coach: "I saw it coach, but it was behind the play and didn't affect the play in any way; so I didn't call it." In other words, is there anything in the rule book that permits or allows an official to ignore an action that would otherwise be a penalty if, in the opinion of the official, the penalty had no impact on the play. I think we would both agree that officials make this determination in the their heads - perhaps several times a game. But would it be appropriate for them to vocalize/rationalize the non-call in the manner I've posed?

    RPI is a joke

I think the Florida football gods (coaches/principals/FHSAA/whoever) made the decision that District Champions should be rewarded. If you win a District Championship, you know you'll get a top 4 seed in your region and you know you'll have a home game against any team that is not a district champion. Your secondary goal should be to play - and beat - as many good teams as you can. As I've pointed out several times, depending on which County you're in could very well determine how much control you have over your non-district schedule and, therefore, whether you can do anything to boost your RPI. Although I have a few issues with the way the current RPI is calculated, I prefer using an RPI system to determine the last teams in (whether it be four per region, as it is currently done, or two per region if they were to go back to a system where each district champ and each district runner-up makes the playoffs and then two wildcards are added). But I'll take either one of those systems over the way it was done in the 70's when school athletic directors voted on which team made the playoffs when there was a tie for district champ. One problem that I have with the old system (the one brought up in this thread) is that it lends itself to too many tiebreakers that have to be decided with one quarter of play the Monday after the regular season is over - and the Monday before the first playoff game - to determine who the champ is and who the runner-up is. It's possible this could be resolved with RPI instead of tie-breaker "games." But, all that said, I don't feel the least bit sorry for Lakeland that it may not have the opportunity to drag the big warship out on the field at Bryant Stadium for a home playoff game. They didn't do the thing that is most important from a playoff seeding standpoint -- they didn't win their district. If they truly are as good as their RPI suggests, they'll find a way to win on the road.

    RPI is a joke

If the 2 teams played one another the winner got the wildcard spot. Otherwise it was done by total wins of opponents. See reply to @muckboy561

    RPI is a joke

I wasn't talking about seeding. I was talking about the RPI. That a team could have the highest RPI and not get to host a single game because they're pushed back to a 5th seed automatically presents another set of issues. A team from another district could have a mediocre record against a weak schedule-producing a low RPI- and still host the top ranked RPI team. I get Lakeland having to play at Lake Gibson again. But, them potentially facing some of the other teams in the region on the road may not make sense.

  17. I'm not taking issues with anything that anyone has posted, but I find it somewhat humorous that we have one thread where folks are complaining that the officials called too many penalties and another thread where folks are complaining that the officials didn't call enough penalties. Of course, both sets of complaints indeed could be justified.

  18. It's not subjective Win district and your in Why does a team coming second in a shit district mean they deserve to be in the playoffs? Just because you are some traditionalist that hates change don't mean the system is bad And for knowing who's home I have to go digging for who's top or bottom and that's stupid beyond all levels, RPI actually seeds teams so higher seed hosts What is so damn complicated then that

    Florida vs OOS

The coach for Gonzaga was the head coach for Leesburg back in the day. He has ties there. Probably came back to town and checked in on his old stomping grounds, and convinced the current coach to come embarrass his players 50-0. He said if your gonna lose 50-0 every game might as well come see the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. Lol
