  2. Do coaches encourage football players to be wrestlers anymore? Or is it weightlifting and track only? With an occasional basketball/baseball player? One of the things I like about small schools (private or public) is that numerous kids play multiple sports, maybe it makes it less overall quality because the kids aren't specializing in one sport year round, but there is something cool to see a kid truly dominate in 3 sports throughout the year. I bring up wrestling because the NCAA Championships are on and I went to wikipedia to look up the nearest D-1 wrestling program, the nearest one is in South Carolina. Does the South hate Olympic-style wrestling that much? No programs in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, or Florida. Florida should add a men's and women's wrestling program, I am sure the state of Florida produces enough talent to feed a program like UF. Some kids would probably like to stay a little closer to home.

How many states don't consider themselves football states? Alaska? Maine? Vermont? New Hampshire? I am willing to bet nearly 40 states consider football to be their primary high school sport. How much do we consider fair for a coach to earn as both a teacher and head football coach (staff of 9 others), including any supplements available for coaching other sports? Just as a note, the average teacher salary in Florida is $51.1K with the state legislature/governor trying to force districts to have a $47.5K as a starting salary. I stay away from the politics of that. As for athlete to student ratio, I find it is usually 10 to 1 on average across most sports (or at least that's the goal of most districts).

Good football coaches and their staff are usually engaged with their players that don't participate in other sports year round. If they are good coaches, usually playoff games are in the equation which adds another 2 to 5 weeks to their season plus another 4 weeks required for spring ball. If a good wrestling coach has a team 2 deep for all weight divisions he is overseeing 24 kids with a small staff. Most FB teams have double the number of kids as well as numerous more staff to hire, train, supervise, etc.. Plus we are a football state so winning is important to almost any team and without it you are replaced. That pressure isn't quite the same with most minor sports, so yeah lots of reasons to pay FB coaches more money than other coaches.

  5. some FB coaches push it, some dont. fb coaches are greedy about their kids, for whatever reason. they should push them to do everything possible. wrestling by far is the best sport for any big kid or small kid for that matter. want to learn how to move someone with force? it aint moving a weight bar thats gonna get that done in real life, learn how to take ownership and compete, cant blame anyone if you got your tail whipped on the mat. and run track.....with a good track coach, who knows how to teach you how to run.

Well I dont really have any problem with they way the private schools do things since it all works out best for the players but I just want them in their own playground since it is completely unfair for them to play public schools. Those four year players were recruited out of the local youth leagues to come to Jesuit too, so it's still not exactly home grown talent as this takes away from their local schools where they are zoned. I dont blame the players at all but these teams need their own league instead of smashing public school kids who are 75 lbs lighter on the lines and much slower in the skill positions.

Football coaches oversee and manage alot more kids than other sports as well as a half dozen or more assistants. They should get significantly more but don't. A successful program as earlier pointed out will drive revenue that helps minor sports get funded. Any issue with the union should be addressed with a sliding scale just like teachers based on years of service; if he is successful and you retain him he can make alot more than a new coach at another county school. A new teacher does not get paid nearly what a 20 year veteran does.
