  2. First I want to express my apologies for my absence the last few months. Without going into much detail I have had some personal life struggles I have been dealing with on top of figuring out the direction to take FloridaHSFootball.com in. Things have finally settled out some over the last few weeks although I am not completely out of the woods just yet. Some of the decisions about what direction to take FloridaHSFootball.com have been forming over this time while I went through things. Part of me wondered if it was time to go, but really it is not at all. Thankfully, a loyal supporter near me in Gainesville decided to put their mouth where their money is and did a little investing and today FloridaHSFootball.com launched its first-ever Mobile App. With that said it comes with the sunset of the MVP Membership Subscriptions and thus FloridaHSFootball.com will be 100% free for the first time in a while. This comes as needing to get the clearances with Apple and Google and the current subscription platform we have is not syncing with Apple's system nor with the App itself. Its best we go in this direction to grow fans again and being able to put them facing forward with an app on their phone going forward. Here are the download links for the apps: iOS (Apple): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/floridahsfootball-com/id6477621728 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floridahsfootball.app&hl=en_US&gl=US For now the forums will not be available directly in the app. At some point I maybe looking at changing the whole forum software that could eventually integrate into the app. It will be a while before this happens so things will go on as they are here. I also apologize for any of the spam and troll accounts that have managed to find their way around the security protocols in setting up new accounts. It seems every day these things find ways to pass through control systems. I am going to be looking at getting this solved and will keep an eye on things here as we go along. Please feel free to reach out to me if you all need anything, want to chat or have any suggestions. -- Josh

  4. @nolebull813 @SportsFan Hi guys, let's remember this is a high school football forum and this specific thread is regarding 2024 schedules, let's please keep it to that and be respectful to others, even to those who we may dislike or disagree with. I thought we're all grown adults here, but you two are acting childish by calling others names and saying they have a low IQ, I'm not saying you have to like PC Gridiron but at least show some respect, PC Gridiron is very knowledgeable about Polk County football and does a lot to help and promote high school athletics in his county. Yes, Kathleen has been awful the last several years and I agree with you they would have lost to most JV teams in the state, but PC Gridiron is still technically correct by referring to them as a large school, Kathleen is Class 5A compared to Victory Christian who's Class 1A. By the way, I'm not going to name names, but I know several people who have either been banned or quit this board and promised to never return, but are still on here under different usernames. Anyways, thank you for hearing me out, I hope you have a good night. By the way, @SportsFan, PC Gridiron wanted me to pass this message along to you: "Hey SportsFan Lake Wales just scored on Columbia again."

  10. It seems like a lot of turnover at many positions in that school. New coach needs to rent some apartments for players and give some 100 dollar handshakes to make it in today Florida high school football. Oh wait, no one recruits illegally here in Florida... my bad

  11. For example if Class 1 has 20 teams eligible to move up, but class 2 only has 15 teams eligible to move down then all 15 move down, and the 15 teams in class 1 with the highest winning percentage would move up.
    2 points
  12. You could even bump teams up and down based on winning percentage. After 2 years, teams with a .750 or higher would have to move up a class with the cap still being 125 teams per class. Teams with the highest winning percentage above .750 would move up first and so on. Same with winning percentages of .250 or worse. They would move down with the worst percentages moving down first
    2 points
  13. If you cut the classes to 4, that’s 125 teams each class. 500 teams. The rest are independent SSAC teams etc. 125 teams divided into 16 districts is 7-8 teams per district. No issue. Travel and scheduling would be easy breezy. Most games would be local and keep the rivalries fresh. Playoffs would be an animal. The districts would be so big, and the classes so small that it would be highly unlikely that a garbage team makes the playoffs. Maybe one here or there but nothing like it is now. Classify by enrollment. Maybe multiply privates by 1.5. Let’s figure it out

  19. No doubt they are working to "GET" kids to transfer in as we lost a couple of very good players to them in the last couple of months. The change came when they brought the 1 year HC down from Leesburg where he put them on the map and into the playoffs somehow managing to "GET" players from some of the surrounding schools. No doubt it is happening.

  20. The difference that I see is that colleges and universities can recruit (in fact, they have to in order to be competitive). More importantly, the local car dealership can be loyal to a particular college or university and under new NIL rules, it can pay a student-athlete. As it stands now, that same car dealership can be loyal to a particular high school football team, but as soon as they start providing payments to players, they run afoul of the FHSAA rules prohibiting "impermissible benefits." This whole section would have to be changed: "37.2 IMPERMISSIBLE BENEFIT 37.2.1 General Regulation. No school employee, athletic department staff member, representative of the school’s athletic interests or third parties, such as an independent person, business, or organization, may be involved, directly or indirectly, in giving an impermissible benefit to any student or any member of his/her family for the purpose of participating in interscholastic athletics, or to any student-athlete who already attends a school. 37.2.2 Specific Prohibitions. Specifically prohibited arrangements, assistance or benefits include, but are not limited to, the following: 37.2.2.1 School-based financial assistance of any kind that exceeds the amount for which a student has been approved by an independent financial needs assessment company that is recognized by the FHSAA or otherwise is in excess of any supplemental assistance provided by a school to each and every student who qualifies for financial assistance. 37.2.2.2 Cash or like items, such as credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, gift certificates, coupons, or vouchers. . . .." What's wrong with keeping high school sports purely amateur? Unlike colleges and universities, no one (including/especially the high schools) is really 'profiting' from the name, image or likeness of a high school athletes, are they? My kids played with some pretty high-profile guys, but I don't recall Dick's selling jerseys with their names printed on the back. Are high school football players from Florida going to start fleeing to other states to pick up a few grand? Perhaps a kid from the panhandle or Jacksonville might get pulled north to Georgia or Alabama for a few bucks, but I can't see any south Florida kids making the move north unless the money was huge (like a once-in-a-generation kid). Let NIL screw up the college game, but keep the high school game as pure as possible.

  21. It's possible that they find their stride by week 5, but at the moment we just don't have the on-paper talent to compete with teams like Miami NW, IMG National, Cocoa, or Bishop Verot. If Venice can find a way to go 7-3 with that schedule I would be happy

  26. The possibility of adding an "open" or "championship" bracket with the 8 highest ranked teams will be discussed at the upcoming FHSAA Board of Directors meeting. The twist here is the proposal includes a double-elimination component. Seems overly complicated to me, although it does open up the possibility for additional revenue from additional games. The item is listed as a "discussion" item (as opposed to an "action" item), but it will be interesting to see where this leads. The entire item can be reviewed here: https://fhsaa.com/documents/2024/4/12/76_78.pdf

  27. Okay, how about that STA vs. Ida Baker matchup in your first round? Does your analogy extend to South Florida slappies? My opinion is simply that no one (except CoachGraham, apparently) would be interested in the 1 vs. 512, 2 vs. 511, and 200 other mismatches such a format would produce, regardless of geography. But I could be wrong. And now I'm thinking I should have skipped college.

  28. As it stands now, a team can afford to lose a game towards the middle-to-end of the regular season and still bounce back and win a state title. The idea of "lose or go home" after Week 5 does not appeal to me at all. Additionally, what do all the teams who lose in Week 6 or 7 do for the rest of the season? Try to find games to play the other teams that got bounced early? Hard to schedule a "home and home" series with another team if you don't know who's going to be in the playoffs for how long both this year and next.

  30. So, while it might be wrong, I would not blame the kid for taking the deal. However, I would hold "the rich local private school" responsible for blatantly breaking the rules.

  31. To make it short and sweet. I am against breaking the rules. If there is a rule that seems outdated or unfair then it should be amended/changed/repealed with majority rule

  32. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm OK with an open division, but the teams in the open division should be determined before the season starts and not at the end of the regular season just before the playoffs begin.
    1 point
  33. As great as an Open division COULD be, it is likely to be very poor given the grotesque incompetence of the ranking systems they've used previously.

  35. Their district didn't do them any favors as far as SOS. Those 3 games positioned where they are will help. But I don't understand putting Satellite as week 1. Eau Gallie and Viera are county rivals. But Eau Gallie is having an exodus of players and have a few coming in. Mainland was supposed to be on the schedule but that fell through. Mainland almost had a tour of brevard lol. Schedule is underwhelming but trying to be optimistic. I see them winning their district easily but losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs honestly

  37. Would be interesting if Bucholz, Homestead and Booker T are home/away two year contracts. That would be some long and tough road games for the 2025 season. I like that they are scheduling tougher the last few years. Would be crazy if they returned the favor next year and traveled down to Dade twice.

  41. I haven’t heard anything. This does seem way more than they can handle. Since the schedule has been out for a while, I feel like you would’ve heard something if they were stacking talent faster than anyone else. The Coach is from Arkansas, and when he came to Florida to play a game years back, he found the worst team he can find. So it’s ironic now he wants to play one of the toughest schedules in the state. Lol

  42. NIL is going to kill HS football
    1 point
  43. Unless and until the FHSAA changes the rules regarding recruiting, I don't see how you can possibly reconcile "allowing NIL deals" with "no recruiting." The only way that I can see it happening is if companies offering NIL deals offer the deals to players at multiple high schools. But, if you've got, let's say, a car dealership in Venice or Lakeland that only offers NIL deals to kids who attend Venice or Lakeland, that constitutes recruiting.

  44. As a general rule, I am not a big supporter of unions in the public sector in particular. They certainly had a place in the private sector during the industrialization of our nation, but today not so much. I have no first-hand experience with unions representing our local law enforcement or firefighters but my interaction with the teachers union over several years in that profession is the basis of my opinion.

  48. The same argument for teachers/coaches can be made for nurses, law enforcement, and other first responders, etc. None of them are paid what they are "worth". From an economic standpoint, no one would willingly pay someone more to do a job when someone will do the same job for less (i.e. supply and demand). As long as enough people are willing to work for current wages in these fields, in many cases out of the goodness of their heart or at significant personal financial sacrifice, the government and corporations see no need to raise wages. Unfortunately, the nonmonetary, societal benefit that individuals in these fields provide is often not recognized (coming from the spouse of a 35+ year educator). When we wake up one day and have a drastic shortage of workers in these fields, our society will be in big trouble, let alone high school football.
