  2. @nolebull813 @SportsFan Hi guys, let's remember this is a high school football forum and this specific thread is regarding 2024 schedules, let's please keep it to that and be respectful to others, even to those who we may dislike or disagree with. I thought we're all grown adults here, but you two are acting childish by calling others names and saying they have a low IQ, I'm not saying you have to like PC Gridiron but at least show some respect, PC Gridiron is very knowledgeable about Polk County football and does a lot to help and promote high school athletics in his county. Yes, Kathleen has been awful the last several years and I agree with you they would have lost to most JV teams in the state, but PC Gridiron is still technically correct by referring to them as a large school, Kathleen is Class 5A compared to Victory Christian who's Class 1A. By the way, I'm not going to name names, but I know several people who have either been banned or quit this board and promised to never return, but are still on here under different usernames. Anyways, thank you for hearing me out, I hope you have a good night. By the way, @SportsFan, PC Gridiron wanted me to pass this message along to you: "Hey SportsFan Lake Wales just scored on Columbia again."

  6. It seems like a lot of turnover at many positions in that school. New coach needs to rent some apartments for players and give some 100 dollar handshakes to make it in today Florida high school football. Oh wait, no one recruits illegally here in Florida... my bad

  7. For example if Class 1 has 20 teams eligible to move up, but class 2 only has 15 teams eligible to move down then all 15 move down, and the 15 teams in class 1 with the highest winning percentage would move up.
    2 points
  8. You could even bump teams up and down based on winning percentage. After 2 years, teams with a .750 or higher would have to move up a class with the cap still being 125 teams per class. Teams with the highest winning percentage above .750 would move up first and so on. Same with winning percentages of .250 or worse. They would move down with the worst percentages moving down first

  9. If you cut the classes to 4, that’s 125 teams each class. 500 teams. The rest are independent SSAC teams etc. 125 teams divided into 16 districts is 7-8 teams per district. No issue. Travel and scheduling would be easy breezy. Most games would be local and keep the rivalries fresh. Playoffs would be an animal. The districts would be so big, and the classes so small that it would be highly unlikely that a garbage team makes the playoffs. Maybe one here or there but nothing like it is now. Classify by enrollment. Maybe multiply privates by 1.5. Let’s figure it out

I doubt they are, Vero just usually pony up’s the $$$ and hosts them, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 4 Brevard County schools are home/away though…

  14. PC Gridiron. Lol. He’s a jabroni. “Large School Kathleen” as if that means something. They went 1-9 and would have lost to most JV teams in the state.

  15. No doubt they are working to "GET" kids to transfer in as we lost a couple of very good players to them in the last couple of months. The change came when they brought the 1 year HC down from Leesburg where he put them on the map and into the playoffs somehow managing to "GET" players from some of the surrounding schools. No doubt it is happening.

  16. The difference that I see is that colleges and universities can recruit (in fact, they have to in order to be competitive). More importantly, the local car dealership can be loyal to a particular college or university and under new NIL rules, it can pay a student-athlete. As it stands now, that same car dealership can be loyal to a particular high school football team, but as soon as they start providing payments to players, they run afoul of the FHSAA rules prohibiting "impermissible benefits." This whole section would have to be changed: "37.2 IMPERMISSIBLE BENEFIT 37.2.1 General Regulation. No school employee, athletic department staff member, representative of the school’s athletic interests or third parties, such as an independent person, business, or organization, may be involved, directly or indirectly, in giving an impermissible benefit to any student or any member of his/her family for the purpose of participating in interscholastic athletics, or to any student-athlete who already attends a school. 37.2.2 Specific Prohibitions. Specifically prohibited arrangements, assistance or benefits include, but are not limited to, the following: 37.2.2.1 School-based financial assistance of any kind that exceeds the amount for which a student has been approved by an independent financial needs assessment company that is recognized by the FHSAA or otherwise is in excess of any supplemental assistance provided by a school to each and every student who qualifies for financial assistance. 37.2.2.2 Cash or like items, such as credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, gift certificates, coupons, or vouchers. . . .." What's wrong with keeping high school sports purely amateur? Unlike colleges and universities, no one (including/especially the high schools) is really 'profiting' from the name, image or likeness of a high school athletes, are they? My kids played with some pretty high-profile guys, but I don't recall Dick's selling jerseys with their names printed on the back. Are high school football players from Florida going to start fleeing to other states to pick up a few grand? Perhaps a kid from the panhandle or Jacksonville might get pulled north to Georgia or Alabama for a few bucks, but I can't see any south Florida kids making the move north unless the money was huge (like a once-in-a-generation kid). Let NIL screw up the college game, but keep the high school game as pure as possible.

  17. It's possible that they find their stride by week 5, but at the moment we just don't have the on-paper talent to compete with teams like Miami NW, IMG National, Cocoa, or Bishop Verot. If Venice can find a way to go 7-3 with that schedule I would be happy

  22. I as well as the majority of parents are happy our state legislature isn't pushed around by unions like other states otherwise our school aged kids wouldn't have even been back in the classroom for almost an entire year. So you have a right to bash our lawmakers while I have the right to cheer them on.

  23. Guess who was an assistant coach on that staff at Winter Park. Heres a few hints...He runs the 7 on 7 team 24K. He left Winter Park last year and took the Head job at Leesburg. He then left Leesburg after 1 season and became the associate Head Coach at TFA. Im sure its just a coincidence though.

  24. Hey @Floridaatlantic1 . This idea has been floated a couple of times on here and I thought it was interesting. How about: Instead of Metro/Suburban, public/private, transfer-based classes, or even promotion/demotion, the FHSAA broke the state into only 3 parts. North, Central, and South. Put all of the South Florida juggernauts into their own classification and let them play for 1 championship. Combine the North Florida rural schools and let them play for one championship while Central Florida combines to one class and plays for the final state championship. Playoff seeding will be determined by districts comprised of no fewer than 4 teams as well as SOS. At the end of the season, the winner of the "North" classification, would play the winner of the "Central" classification. Afterward, the winner of that game would play the winner of the "South" classification. And for once, we would have one "true" undisputed state champion.

  25. The possibility of adding an "open" or "championship" bracket with the 8 highest ranked teams will be discussed at the upcoming FHSAA Board of Directors meeting. The twist here is the proposal includes a double-elimination component. Seems overly complicated to me, although it does open up the possibility for additional revenue from additional games. The item is listed as a "discussion" item (as opposed to an "action" item), but it will be interesting to see where this leads. The entire item can be reviewed here: https://fhsaa.com/documents/2024/4/12/76_78.pdf

  28. Their district didn't do them any favors as far as SOS. Those 3 games positioned where they are will help. But I don't understand putting Satellite as week 1. Eau Gallie and Viera are county rivals. But Eau Gallie is having an exodus of players and have a few coming in. Mainland was supposed to be on the schedule but that fell through. Mainland almost had a tour of brevard lol. Schedule is underwhelming but trying to be optimistic. I see them winning their district easily but losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs honestly

  33. I've watched high school football all across the southeast up to Northern VA, and in terms of community/fan support, Florida is dead last. I'm guessing that the large transient population that doesn't have community ties is part of the reason. The high school back in my old podunk Virginia hometown with a population of around 4.5K will draw 3K or more for home games, and most of those fans have been supporting the school for decades. Most of my Florida game attendance has been in Volusia, Orange, Brevard, Broward, Palm Beach counties and here with the Treasure Coast schools from Sebastian River to South Fork. With few exceptions over the years, the crowds have been mostly students and parents/relatives of players, cheerleaders and band members.

  34. Would be interesting if Bucholz, Homestead and Booker T are home/away two year contracts. That would be some long and tough road games for the 2025 season. I like that they are scheduling tougher the last few years. Would be crazy if they returned the favor next year and traveled down to Dade twice.

  35. Only thing I know is that they basically have Leesburg HC from this past season as an assistant/co-HC and made it to where it was a package deal with him and his staff from Leesburg to come over with him. And apparently they were allotted a tremendous amount of funds for athletics.

  39. Yet you and your buddy Shyster Joe demand teams consistently play these very expensive, and very time-consuming games. If they don't, you call them p*ssies and talk about their coaches not having "the chest" to "challenge" his boys.

  40. We can look to the college game for ideas on how to work around rules. A little creativity, along with clever use of euphemisms, goes a long way. Businesses like car dealerships have long been free to enter into sponsorship deals with local football programs. The businesses can choose who to sponsor or not. Then, with such an agreement in place, commercials and promotions can be held featuring players from the sponsored program, which can be called an "NIL" deal. Of course there is ample room for debates around the "spirit" vs. "the letter" of the law. You're not wrong; there are just ways around the issues you raise. (None of which are for the betterment of the game.)

  41. CAI was such a farce program. The school only has 70 or so students so you know at least some of those 40+ football players probably weren't even required to attend class or were "attending" virtually. No tears from me seeing them fold up shop. I guess football didn't grow the stature of their strange scientology school like it was originally intended.
    1 point
  42. Unless and until the FHSAA changes the rules regarding recruiting, I don't see how you can possibly reconcile "allowing NIL deals" with "no recruiting." The only way that I can see it happening is if companies offering NIL deals offer the deals to players at multiple high schools. But, if you've got, let's say, a car dealership in Venice or Lakeland that only offers NIL deals to kids who attend Venice or Lakeland, that constitutes recruiting.
