Very excited to see the legislature reverse course -- granted, some of them blamed it on a "glitch". NIL date for Florida will be July 1, 2021 after all. Key notes from SI: - NCAA verbally pledged this morning they will not penalize any FL athletes regarding NIL - FL legislature passed legislation today that says if the NCAA penalizes FL institutions or players over state laws that FL schools will not be allowed to use state funds to pay for NCAA membership. Punishment includes relocation of championship events. The FL institutions may also be asked by the State to withdraw from the NCAA.

The NFL QB turned MLB minor leaguer is attempting an NFL comeback as a tight end, according to multiple reports. The 33-year-old reached out to the Jacksonville Jaguars requesting an opportunity to try out as a tight end, ESPN reported. Tebow went through a workout with the team’s tight ends coach, according to NFL Network, and the Jaguars have had “at least some discussion” of signing him.

The state's flag football playoffs are underway. Any one want to chime in on some flag football action?

Once a leader in the NIL movement, the state of Florida might be surrendering its spot at the movement's forefront. In a stunning change, Florida lawmakers quietly passed legislation to delay its implementation until 2022. UF's Dan Mullen called on DeSantis to veto the move, which is buried into an unrelated bill, saying, "We need to do what’s best for our student-athletes." Mike Norvell at FSU noted there is "no reason to wait to do the right thing" while Miami's Manny Diaz slammed the move as "unacceptable" and called on DeSantis to veto the decision. "While the rest of the states are moving forward to follow OUR lead, we inexcusably take a giant step backwards," Diaz commented. Senator Travis Hutson told Sports Illustrated today he introduced the amendment at the behest of the legislature's education staff which claimed the NCAA would potentially penalize the state's student-athletes. SI noted the NCAA has verbally pledged to not penalize any student-athletes for the decisions of their state politicians.

I don't know about Cocoa, but no doubt the Dillard fan base would be fired up. Don't see Cocoa giving up that home game this year though.

Lot to take in here, @Perspective, and it certainly is interesting to see how things played out geographically. All Josh, no helpers on this project! Though he doesn't take help on this project, I am aware of the process so I can speak on that some. It all starts with the solicitation of nominees from coaches around the state. I couldn't tell you how many coaches nominate their dudes (and some nominate dudes from other teams) but I know it's alot. (Granted, if only 100 teams nominated players that only be 25% of the teams.) All those nominees, with stats, go to a spreadsheet. From there, Josh will pull together all the all-region selections newspapers pull together to a) fill in any gaps he may have and b) see where, say, the Orlando Sentinel placed Johnny Footballer from Apopka. He'll have conversations along the way with both reporters and coaches about various players, and teams, to talk about performances/impact. Slowly but surely, he'll start slotting the guys as best he can until he has filled the teams up. I'm not sure how much, if any, film he breaks down. Yes. Not enough at that level to produce a solid third team. No, he has recognized dudes from lower than championship caliber teams in the past.

Longtime Big Bend high school football coach Joey Striplin has died after battling health issues for several years, according to ABC 27. His family confirmed to ABC 27 it was the "cancer and pneumonia that took him home too soon." Striplin was a graduate of Lincoln High School and was also a member of the Trojans football program. He helmed West Gadsden for four seasons before being named the head at East Gadsden and captained EG through its merger with WG.
