  3. I totally agree that you need to play tough teams to prepare you for the playoffs. Teams with a tough playoff bracket and make it to the finals will be prepared for that championship game. Hope that Cocoa playing 2 soft teams in the playoffs don't come back to bite them.
  4. I will agree that Dade has a ton of talent, but I also believe that some of them athletes put in the effort and do what it takes to get out of their 'sometimes' desperate situations. College scholarships are just one way to do that, and we all know that you have to earn that education one way or another. There are a ton of talented kids out there that just do enough to get that starting position, and then there are the ones that do enough and more... you know em, they are the ones that go to the big colleges and excel. That's why Dade is heavily recruited by all colleges. Does it surprise you that Mac Jones played for Bolles? A shame Corky Rogers passed away before seeing Mac killing it in the NFL.
  5. A ball bouncing the right way can go along way in turning a team from behind to ahead. Once momentum has shifted the game changes.
  6. Population of counties with a playoff team? If I had the time I would post it. Maybe I can do that tomorrow, unless someone has the time and wants to do it.
  7. When I say 2 RB's... The TC QB ran the option against Cocoa with positive effect.
  8. Treasure Coast has that 2 headed snake in running backs. Both are capable of running through tackles. Then you have that occasional slant and screen to loosen the line up a little. Of course the Darters have been to the playoffs so often you know the coaches have seen it all and they make great adjustments in the second half. In my humble opinion it will be close and could go either way. Good luck to both teams and may the playoffs be injury free.
  9. To answer your question, I believe I know the coach in reference. Nothing but respect for that coach. I graduated HS in 71, and after college I worked for Florida Today/USA Today until 2012. All but a few of my coaches have passed on. Blackburn for Wrestling 4 years (1968 - 1971), Higgenbotham for football Freshman year (1968), Miller for swimming 3 years (1969 - 1971), My Dad and Mckee for Baseball (1960 - 1969). However, I coached league Baseball, Jr-Sr's from 1998 - 2021. I'm fairly certain this year was my last year coaching after nearly dying from a nasty illness that hit Florida fairly hard. I may continue to umpire if the league needs me though.
  10. Just seems like the final would have a North region vs a South region but, I do see why they would use RPI seeds for the final 4 instead of using the North vs brackets. To insure the best 2 teams face off for the finals and not a team that slid through easier brackets. Thanks for sheading the light so that I could see it better. It took me awhile because I couldn't get past the way it used to be, North vs South. At the start I just couldn't see past 2 teams from the South playing for the championship... or 2 from the North but, it makes sense the way they set it up.
  11. Semi Says 25 plays 26 - 27 plays 28 and the final says 29 plays 30. Teams are already placed in their slots. RPI is done.
  12. The flaw isn't necessarily in they system if 1's don't play 1's for all the donuts. Team problems happen more frequently in big games. Players get hurt. Team matchup's. Ref's. Weather. Travel time. Lots of variables can cause the better team to lose or a bad team to squeak out a win.
  13. (b) Bracketing. Teams will be seeded based on the RPI Ranking at the conclusion of the regular season. It kind of says it all right there.
  14. In defense of the refs, you can't see every foul but a ref should be alert to a coach letting you know a player is repeatedly holding. I had an umpire kick me out of a game for telling him "thank you" after he made a bad call. He said I was harassing him. Some officials are just bad.
  15. Cocoa has a lot of respect for Pahokee. Never count them an easy team to play no matter the classification. They may lose to much bigger teams but it is always a decent game. justsayin...

  19. Cocoa Rockledge postponed until tomorrow night.
  20. Looking forward to the Bar-b-que bowl this year. Hope the level of officiating matches the level of talent that is going to be on the field this year. My son graduated from Cocoa and my grandson is graduating from Rockledge this year. I went to both schools so it will be whimsical for me. First game was played in 1971. Lately it has been a great game.
  21. Wasn't Pahokee and Glades Central Nationally ranked in the top 100 one year for the Muck Bowl?
