Player number 12 with a offer

But people can keep believing we will be lucky to hit .500

It's going to be satisfying watching people backtrack later

Just a thought to spare us the fanfare - simply add a link to any/all of the Columbia players with offers  with their 247 offers and ratings page next to their name.

247 does a great job staying up to date with offers.

Let's assume the private schools don't actively poach and this is simply a matter of parent/student choice where they go.  Public schools in Dade and Broward are pretty bad from an academic standpoint.

If given the opportunity, would think many parents would like their kid going to a private school with "A" academic rating and high college acceptance rates than an intensely segregated school with "C" academic rating.

Am not sure why, but schools like Central and NW are able to maintain a critical mass of talent, while Dillard and Ely are not.  Seems like more than coincidence and that options to attend the private schools in Dade may not be as plentiful as in Broward.

Last night I was looking at a kid who played at Ely last year and now he is at Chaminade.  Based on where he lives, he is not the typical candidate to be able to afford to go to a private school.

One of the reasons is NW Dade and the Miami Gardens area is significantly more talent loaded then the Dillard/Ely area ( which are really near one another anyway in the first place). Flat out way more developed  players coming up from the youth leagues.

Are you aware that most of Dillard’s talent of late were actually inbound transfers?

Again, the concept of the Dillard area being some Mecca of football talent has tapered out over the years.

Kids also naturally want to win. Something 16-6A has been pretty good at.

    Just food for thought.

    Sincerely,

    2018

If good private schools like STA and Gibbons opened up in inner city Miami and kids could go there, I predict that Northwestern and Central would experience the same as Dillard and Ely.  I don't think the kids there are any more loyal.  It comes down to options.

I don’t know the decade you are seeing this scenario as but:

Are you aware most of the talent in Dade is not in “inner city” Miami?

Look W/NW from downtown if you wanted to ideally build another private power. Perhaps by Dolphin Stadium might be a ideal spot

Are you aware that there has probably been more talent from the Ely area that has been going to Deerfield Beach (and other public schools ) of late versus STA and Cardinal Gibbons?

Now Cardinal Gibbons surely used to get a lot of Ely kids in recent years (and still do) but of late Cardinal Gibbons roster has a lot more kids coming in from the Coral Springs/Parkland /Tamarac area than “inner city “ areas.

As to STA they get kids from all over but probably have more kids on their roster from suburban Southwest Ranches and Davie versus Dillard and the “inner city” Dillard area. This concept that the STA roster has all of these Dillard zoned players is exaggerated and flat out inaccurate. At least in 2018.

So in the end I guess their are kids that are technically “not loyal “all over.

I’m not taking a side or opinion on the matter, just presenting some information.

It was difficult making that list earlier. I do Rankings for spring time based off last season’s record, Spring Game Results and etc. Almost kinda like the College Football Top 25 poll format. Mainland had a decent season and started to climb. Mandarin got brought in because they did well vs Bolles and Bolles isn’t too good now it seems. Lee dropped because of the lost to Trinity Christian. FPC moved up due to winning 8A-1 last season and scored a good amount of points vs Fleming Island. Everyone else is because of last season’s results such as state playoffs and/or last season’s results or Spring Game results. Raines is still up because of State Championship last year. I was debating to move them down to like #5.

So Columbia at 7-4 last year pushes them up to #1?

    As in below Baker County?

...not a bad view, huh?  Can you hear it already .."Well if doormat NW has a $270mill facility, we better have one worth at least double that or we might lose that recruit to them"

    https://sports.yahoo.com/move-clemson-oregon-alabama-northwesterns-ridiculous-new-practice-facility-unparalleled-college-football-220858185.html

...so we have kids with student loan debt up the butt and inner city kids down the road without the most basic of places to play and getting shot up in drive by's...while NW gets major tax breaks, meaning local taxpayers "contributed"

    Isn’t Northwestern a private university?

  6. There is, always has been, and always will be “desperation “ by teams.

I noticed a team like STA is not on this list and considering they have one a lot in recent years they probably have a low amount of points in your system.  I’ll go out on a limb and say they have a much higher probability to get back to and win states more so then anybody on this list.

A lot of 8A teams on that list.

  8. Considering there are 20 total 8A programs in Dade, one might expect some new blood in what I call 3-5 year power cycles.  The problem is you have probably 6-7 teams at the bottom of those 20 teams and they can’t even establish a once in a decade “flash in the pan” season. They are unfortunately consistently 1-4 win teams.

The funny thing is think those losing programs may even sometumes keep their coaches longer term then the teams that usually have winning records.

Perhaps some schools take their football more serious....

Bingo.  If we are struggling to fill out a "Top 5 8A schools for Dade," it raises questions about the depth/consistency of the programs in the county, since many Dade schools are 8A.

We sometimes pick on Palm Beach and Broward for their lack of powerhouse public programs, but are Dade County's public programs as a whole really that far superior?    That's the dialogue I am trying to foster.

So 8A privates like Columbus do not count?

Are you aware just a few years back that Belen Jesuit was a very solid program.

Take Southwest out of their district from 2012 to current and they will be lucky to crack .500 every year.  Don't get fooled by the numbers.

As for Broward .  I would argue Broward publics in 2015 were as good or better then any county in the state. Yeah, a whole 2 1/2 year ago....

Dade publics are consistenly superior because of 16-6A.  8A goes in cycles in Dade, Broward and PB.

  10. 1 minute ago, DarterBlue2 said:

Probably more in the Orlando area. But that is mostly due to the fact that all the public schools except for: Jones, Lake Nona and Edgewater in Orange, and Lake Howell and Hagerty in Seminole are in 8A. Now Osceola does have more non 8A public schools than 8A. But it is the smallest of the three counties population wise.

In Miami/Dade, a fairly large number of the public schools are in lower classifications.

It is essentially comparing Dade County 8A to the top 8A teams in 2 FHSAA Regions. Regions 1 and 2.

  11. 3 minutes ago, OldSchoolLion said:

Southwest was 39-15 from 2012-2016.  Which 8A Dade team has been more consistent over this time frame?

Public school, not sure I can find one that consistent but if you are from SFL you should know that Southwest plays in arguably the worst 8A District in the state. Belen Jesuit is the only team with a pulse in that 8-15 district.  Unless you feel beating Ferguson, Braddock, Coral Reef and Varela  are not consistent, easy Ws....  I can't argue with those numbers but tell me how their season ends every year with that "winning" record?

How is Southwest record versus other 8A Publics or any publics for that matter outside their District?

What is Southwest postseason record in that super 39-15, 2012- 2016 run?

Oh wow. The new staff has to install confidence after those rough seasons.

Well playing in the Muck tonight may be a opportunity to do just that.  I do emphasize "opportunity"  .

Dang. Are they hurting that bad?

They have won 7 total games over the last 3 years.  Last year they appeared to have a solid roster and many thought they could at least right the ship. They were only able to muster wins versus Boyd Anderson and Fort Lauderdale High.

I am no Dwyer homie, but believe some respect is due.  Check out their playoff record over the past 15 years.  How many teams out there have faced a murderer's row like this in the playoffs?  They have played at places like STA(twice), BTW, Palm Bay, Plant, Manatee and East Lake.  7/12 playoff losses were by a touchdown or less, and none of those losses was to a slouch.  7/12 playoff losses were to the eventual state champion or runner-up.

    2003 lost to a 10-1 McArthur team  18-5

2004 lost to state runner-up ST Aquinas 10-7 in Fort Lauderdale

2005 lost to undefeated Booker T Washington  23-16 in Miami

    2006 lost to a 10-1 BTW team 38-21

2007 lost  to undefeated state champion BTW 7-6 in Miami

2008 beat BTW 24-21 and lost to state champion Plant 33-21 in Tampa

2009 beat Armwood 41-15 and Niceville 42-14 to win state title

2010 beat Palm Bay 24-7 in Melbourne and lost 22-20 to state runner-up (vacated) Armwood in Tampa

2011 beat STA 6-3 and lost to state champion Manatee 19-14 in Bradenton

    2012 lost to a 9-2 Boyd Anderson team  6-3

2013 beat STA 35-28, beat a 13-1 East Lake team 31-24(OT) and Niceville 55-39 to win state title

2015 lost to state champion STA 24-7 (who beat Viera by 35 pts in the state final)

2016 lost to state champion STA 37-0 in Fort Lauderdale (who beat Plant by 39 in the state final)

    2017 lost to a 11-2 Doral Academy team 6-5

So granted they have had their way with the likes of Ely, Dillard, Hollywood Hills, Stranahan, Fort Lauderdale etc...which have probably mostly been average at best playoff teams when losing to Dwyer since 2003. It clearly appears when they play winning teams in Broward and Dade (9 wins or more, public or private) they are 3 Wins and 9 Losses?

There is no doubt Dwyer is arguably the premier public program in Palm Beach over the last few years, there is no doubt they have some of the best teams ever in Palm Beach County that may rival some of the best Pahokee and Glades Central teams.  There is no requirement to play out of county or the top teams in your county (ahum ThunderWolves) all the time but generally speaking most top programs in  SFL over the last few years do make an effort to play maybe a game or two against strong opponents either in county and/or even out of county.

Let's take a look at some recent public school state champions in Broward and Dade regular season games versus non-district:

Southridge  2016 (Played BTW ) , 2017 (Played Cardinal Gibbons Broward power , Carol City), 2018 (not sure)

Flanagan 2015 ( AHP - game fell apart, Played STA), 2016 ( Miami Central  Dade power-  cancelled scheduling issue, Played STA, Played Oxbridge Academy PB power), 2017 (Played STA, played Oxbridge Academy PB Power), 2018 (Obviously does not make sense now)

Neither of the above teams have had the consistent playoff presence of Dwyer in recent years yet win or lose they both made efforts to challenge themselves off State championship teams. Those are just two examples that never established the dominance of Dwyer but still went down swinging.....Now don't even let me get into public powers like BTW and 16-6A  scheduling outside of their districts versus Dwyer.

Dwyer has a plan that works for them and has even allowed them to slip past STA a couple times .  Maybe Dwyer is right, and all of these other SFL powers are all wrong for challenging themselves to build....... Dwyer has always been known to get top transfers in over the years and as you stated Jack Daniels has been a winner for 20 years so they are doing something right.  Different strokes for different folks I guess.

If Dwyer was traveling across the country every year like certain teams, I would ask the question, "Why not play one of the Dade/Broward elites?  But that is not the case.

    ...concerning Broward County....

Cannot blame Dwyer(or anyone else from Palm Beach) for not wanting to play Broward's private schools during the regular season.  Last year, for non-district games, Dwyer played Park Vista (who beat Miramar) and Atlantic (who beat Plantation, Western, and Park Vista.)  I would challenge that Park Vista and Atlantic were as good as any of Broward's public school teams last year.

It's not as if Broward has had much to offer in terms of great public school programs of late, so cannot blame Dwyer for staying at home to face competition that is at least as good.   Also, Dwyer already knows they are likely to face Broward teams in the playoffs, so maybe the appeal of playing additional regular season games against Broward teams is not as great.

    ...concerning Dade County...

They have played Northwestern twice (once in Miami) and Central once to open each of the past three seasons.  If that is their "model" (versus playing them during the regular season) I am OK with that.  At least they are consistent in how they schedule.  I cannot blame teams for not wanting to come to Dade County to play games.  There are personal safety issues, and maybe a coach thinks it is not worth the risk for his players.

Well Oxbridge schedules those games versus top Broward and Dade teams...- with a roster of 35.

Broward Publics have not been up to par last two years - agree.   But I'm talking over the course of 25 years.  Would you have ever thought  5 years ago that the first top Palm Beach team to play IMG, Carol City or the defending 8A Champions would be Oxbridge Academy?

When was the last time over 25 years years Dwyer sniffed something like that?

Not even after they have had nationally elite teams.
