But Josh if you like everyone else haven't seen the formula how can you be certain that margin of victory was the only thing changed? The problem is when you have an organization that goes and takes a route that basically removed any transparency and ability to double check the work it's hard for me to blindly trust them

We had math errors on the point system and RPI because the FHSAA put the wrong information down and it was discovered by the schools tracking it as well and getting it corrected

We can't double check this system either which raises another problem about how do we know someone didn't get screwed out of the playoffs because the FHSAA put the wrong info down on a team, there were some very close races for playoff spots and seeding

You are conflating 2 variables.  The seeding is different this year because it is the first year that the FHSAA did not award automatic top-4 seeds to all district winners.  The seeding is more accurate this year for the simple reason that there are no more "undeserving" district winners with a top-4 seeds.  They are now seeded 5, 6, 7, or 8 where they belong.  With more accurate seeding, one would expect a higher proportion of higher seeds advancing compared to last year.  You can't say definitively whether the FHSAA Power Rankings were any more accurate than last year's RPI would have been in the same circumstances.  The use of the word "Maybe" in the topic line is about the best you can say.  At least we agree on the transparency issue, or lack thereof.

Well I'm gonna take the ballsy move anyway

I've seen all the talk Lake Wales and Polk County been doing on Twitter and writing this in as a easy win for Lake Wales so I'm gonna prove just how confident I am in Columbia

Forget the original bet, I will put my Columbiafan moniker on this site on the line on Columbia beating Lake Wales because if I can't beat an overrated and overconfident Highlander team than I don't deserve to post with that name anymore on this site and I will gladly take the moniker with the most posts and likes in Florida HS Football.com history and walk into retirement

Lake Wales thinks they can end Columbia but we aren't some JV team, Columbia has 715 program wins on its back and if they think they will disrespect us and talk about how they gonna walk over Columbia they will learn the hard way what Lincoln, Escambia and Choctawhatchee have already learned this postseason

If they did that in the future it would be more an open bowl series (similar to CA) so you still have metro and suburban "state champs" but they would then play in a bowl game

    Polk County has 700k+ people

    Baker County has 28k people

Are you really trying to say Baker County in that 28k county population has 30-40 FBS players to compete with Central? It doesn't matter if they played the top 10 nationally ranked teams for 10 years straight, they will never just get enough jimmy and Joes to suddenly compete with a team that is pulling from the deepest talent pool in the entire country

So Jacksonville don't get transfers? I literally proved this a year ago

    Are you hearing yourself?

So 9-1 teams should have to travel to 4-6 teams they already beat during the season ON THE ROAD just because "well your on the top of the bracket this year and we don't want to hurt this teams feelings by telling them they didn't actually earn the right to host and are only hosting because we have the creative mindset of a chimpmunk with a bracket that's barely good enough for a middle school playoff much less the high school playoff bracket in THE BEST FOOTBALL STATE IN THE COUNTRY"

If a team wants to host they gotta win during the season, in Columbia case (even though Friday proved they were better than Escambia by beating Escambia in Pensacola and should have been the 2 seed) they did travel and win and now are highest seed left and get to play at home

To answer your question, having lived in Georgia, it is a somewhat confusing but interesting system.  Each class has 8 regions (think "districts") with 6-8 teams per region.  Round-robin play with top 4 teams advancing based on region record.  So 32-team bracket.  One team from each region is placed in each of the four 8-team sub-brackets, cross-seeded with the adjacent region.  Bottom line is all 4 teams from a single region could conceivably qualify for the state semifinals (as could 2 teams from the same region qualify for the finals).  As this is not easily explained in words, view brackets on GHSAA website if you want a visual.

    For comparison

Columbia in order to come close to matching Miami Central in FBS players would have to get ALL the FBS players in Columbia, Suwannee, Hamilton, Madison, Gilchrist, Baker, Union, Bradford and probably Alachua County to just COME CLOSE to the same level of talent

But somehow that means we are on a level playing field when Miami Central has gotten over 20 transfers FIVE STRAIGHT YEARS, most of whom are FBS level players

It's not about "competing with good teams" it's about "trying to face teams who actually can play by similar rules" and thanks to the stupid people that keep getting elected at the state level to preserve "privatizing education" and "school choice" YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD with counties of over 1M people Sharing a class with counties of less than 50k

It's not realistic, feasible or honest

    Okay so merge 1R, 1S, 2S, 3S and 4S into 3 suburban classes

Merge 1-4M into 3 metro classes

That would be fine with me but the metro counties need to be split from the rural counties

Cut down from 9 to 7 or 6 classes. Combine classes 1R, 2S, and 3S to create one class and leave the others as they are. Increase districts from 3 teams to no fewer than 4 but no more than 7. Keep Metro/Suburban classifications and bring back RPI in some fashion. No 1-9 or 0-10 teams making the playoffs as runnerups in garbage districts. Only the winner deserves to have a guaranteed spot in the postseason. Others must earn their spot through earning it with a winning record.

I'm not saying the current one is perfect but I guarantee you if we kept the previous system nothing we change with reseeding or point system or RPI or MaxPreps would ever fix it

We will keep addressing the wrong problem by ignoring the obvious
