  1. My first opinion... Do away with bonus points or modify how they are earned.
  2. Any team went a season without allowing any points??
  3. Columbia vs Gainesville Thursday. Hawthorne vs Interlachen Friday.
  4. Anyone know what happen in Hamilton County? Just seen head coach, both coordinators, and principal have all resigned.
  5. I wouldnt take much from 5A Eastside beating a 1A Dixie County that lost half their team. Dixie graduated approx 20 seniors.
  6. Hawthorne over Newberry 42-7... JV played 1st quarter. Ended 7-7. Varsity continued with Hawthorne scoring 35 to Newberry 0. Game was called with 9mins remaining in 4th.
  7. Wouldn't be a district but more of a regional tourney.... If it was a simple as beating teams on your schedule there wouldn't be any complaints. Your points are more about how well the team you won or lost to does and not determined on the field. Teams have already made most of their schedules for next year. Can you predict Newberrys record?? Cocoa record??? Pahokee record??? Can you predict transfers, player progression, coaching changes, strength of another teams schedule???? These things hold more weight than winning or losing to a team. Teams were suppose to be rewarded for playing good teams, but good teams usually schedule tough schedules which results in avg records. So teams are rewarded more for scheduling avg teams that schedule weak schedules. So yes there is a complaint if a team loses to a top 5 team in a class and they finished 5-5 and another team beats a bottom 5 team in the same class and they finished 9-1. Wheres the reward for playing the top 5 team??? Im assuming your a Pahokee guy. If vero beach doesnt go 10-0 and Cocoa doesnt go 9-1 you are singing a different song. So this is why I am for letting 2 more teams in. The more that is determined on the field the better...
  8. Agreed. So by letting more teams in, more of the results are handled on the field. In basketball every aspect of the playoffs is handled on the court. The district tournament lets the 2 best playing teams come out of district. Then the best playing team comes out of regional. Then best playing team wins state.
  9. There will always be blowouts. Even 2 evenly match teams may end in a blowout. Just how teams get upset by lesser teams. Blowouts are not a problem. Not giving teams the opportunity to prove themselves is the problem. Anything that gives a team a chance to prove themselves, Im all for it. I wish there was a regional tourney where every team is in. Like other sports have district tournament. Everything is settled by playing.
  10. I like it. This is as close as we will probably get to playing it out on the field. Im not a fan of the point system. I hate other teams determining how many points you get. A little biased probably, because Im a Hawthorne guy and I feel we were left out. So Im all for letting 2 more teams in. We lost one game in overtime and lost another in final seconds. Finished 7-2 losing to 2 team thats made the playoffs. I think we were the 2nd or 3rd best team in the region and didnt get in because..... yea we lost them 2 games, but also teams that were scheduled didnt do as good as thought.
  11. That's the story of Hawthorne basketball. We pretty much play with all guards. This probably our tallest team in years. With 2 6'3" guys. We have a total of maybe 4 guys over 6'. We win games with guard play. If your guards cant handle constant on the ball pressure for 4 quarters, they are in trouble.
  12. What happened with Columbia against St. Francis???
  13. Columbia won. I got in late. Heard they were up 20 and let Bell bring it back to 2 points in 4th.
  14. Hawthorne plays the game after. I should catch end of Bell and Columbia.
  15. Columbia plays 1A Bell at 11:30.... You going to be there???
  16. http://www.fhsaa.org/sites/default/files/attachments/info-page/population_report_for_web_1.pdf These are the 2017 numbers. Well might want to look at moving Pierson Taylor(616) to 1A. Do you have a number cuttoff for 1A? How do you feel about Keystone(798) and Interlachen(744) moving down to 1A? They both struggle in their class.
  17. I agree but the argument for Madison and Pahokee will be Fort White(632), Newberry(670), Frostproof(643), Baldwin(658), Cocoa Beach(679), Union(593), Williston(589), Taylor County(653), are all around 600 and over.. While Madison 2017 numbers are 530 and Pahokee 496. How can you justify this to a coach?
  18. 1A 88 schools with one over 500 2A 57 schools with 2 over 900 but the 2 opted to come down to their 2A 3A 67 schools between 900 and 1100 and the school in the class not between these numbers opted to move up 4A 100-1300 5A 1300-1600 6A 1600-2000 7A 2000-3000 which is their class with the biggest gap. But probably once you get over a certain number it doesnt matter So from what I see. Georgia has more schools around the same number. 88 schools under 500... then 57 schools between 500 and 900... then to have 67 schools within 200 students in 3A. Florida numbers are more spread out. Maybe their school board zone better than ours. https://www.ghsa.net/sites/default/files/documents/executive-committee/Classes_with_Regions_for_2015-17.pdf
  19. Them going 7-3 or 5-5 or 4-6 and missing the playoffs would have been the same effect.
  20. Hawthorne opened their season last night against Crescent City. Looked real good. Defense was amazing. Had a kid hit 9 3's. Varsity score was 77-35 and jv was 58-6 i think.
  21. What did making the playoffs mean to Wildwood and Union County this year? You think Union was happy they made playoffs and had Madison first game. Unless you are Madison or Blountstown it meant nothing. What different than how every other sport has a district tourney? So even the 0-25 baseball, basketball, softball, volleyball teams have a chance to play for a district championship and chance to make state playoffs. Since we do not have districts anymore. This is equivalent in my opinion. There are only 34 teams in 1A currently. I am only referring to 1A. First few rounds there will be some blowouts. Just like there are now. But the games will be determined on the field. There is no way to get away from blowouts. Blowouts happen. Oh well. The school I follow is the smallest school in 1A. If we can put a competitive team on the field, anyone should be able to. I've said it before, I am going to repeat it. Hold the School, Athletic Director, Principle, whoever else accountable for your school. If the right coach is in place, the team will be competitive. This is the only way to gain competitive balance. Stop trying to move teams with "more", down to play teams with "less" so that the "more" is competitive. Make the "more" work hard as the "less" and they will be competitive.
  22. Bronson vs anybody is the same result this year. Madison vs anybody the same result this year. Every 1A team Madison played had a running clock but Pahokee. That's why we have a running clock. They beat undefeated Dixie 62-7.. Probably would beat Bronson 77-0. Whats the difference? (No disrespect to Bronson) If a team doesn't want to be in the 32 go independent. The next team in to keep the number at 32.
  23. To leave it how it is... Move top 2 schools out, leaving bottom 32.. Split north and south....Play season... Use points to seed.... Play 32 team playoff like 5A-8A.... Maybe at some point something would need to be changed. But thats a future problem.
