  1. If memory serves me right, Palm Harbor was ranked 3 as of week 10 and Olympia was ranked 4. Both Palm Harbor and Olympia scored easy wins over two equally inept opponents. Palm Harbor's was more impressive in that they put a running clock on theirs. The ranking difference between Palm Harbor and Olympia in week 10 was not wide; however, it was not razor thin either as was the case between Apopka and Winter Park. I expected Apopka to jump Winter Park due to the razor thin difference and the fact Apopka's opponent in week 11 had a pulse while Winter Park's did not. So, that and the razor thin difference in margin suggested to me that Apopka would jump over WP if Apopka won. But given the fact that both Olympia and PH had very poor competition Friday and the margin between the two was not razor thin, I did not expect Olympia would have been able to jump over Palm Harbor. Therefore, I expected Durant to travel to Olympia and not Palm Harbor.
  2. About the final rankings and brackets for 4M, Region 2. They truly don't make sense to me and are the poster child for why the ranking methodology needs to be fully revealed.
  3. There are a few frauds on that list that will get exposed somewhere between (and including) the first and third rounds.
  4. Perhaps in an alternate universe. Charlotte gets running clocked at the start of the third.
  5. https://www.youtube.com/c/fhsaavideos There you go.
  6. Between 10am and noon Sunday. They (FHSAA) will have a youtube show.
  7. And they all be laughing at me!
  8. Question: Why did you drop St. Augustine by 4 spots? The team put a running clock on Palatka. Aside from that, I am okay with your rankings this week. I do think Lake Mary is underrated, but I understand why based on its loss to Seminole last week.
  9. I've seen it this far, so of course, I will play. Hopefully, I can get a stable internet connection from where I will be staying in Jamaica the second week of the playoffs if I am still alive then.
  10. She may well be only the second (if not the first) female in Florida history to score a TD in a Varsity game. I believe the only other to do this, played for Hollywood Hills several years ago. She was a backup offensive player who used to get regular reps. So, I am assuming she scored a TD or two along the way, @Jullian can you confirm this, or am I incorrect?
  11. He's clearly doing a great job. There is no doubt about that.
  12. Lake Mary finished their regular season with a facile victory over previously unbeaten Mainland. The final score was 33-0. It probably was not that close as Lake Mary substituted liberally from the middle of the third quarter on. Noah Grubbs had an average night for him, but still managed three touchdown passes and over 100 yards passing. By my count, Mainland only managed 6 first downs and their best play of the night, a run of over 40 yards was called back for a holding penalty. Despite the 1 point loss to Seminole last week, I maintain that they are the best team in 4M that I have seen live or on film. I would be surprised if they did not win 4M. While I wish there was someway I could see my Darters beat them in the playoffs it will likely not happen. I am not a fan of the Rams, but objectively I have to admit that they are the best in the class in my opinion.
  13. I think our resident official is a prime example of your final paragraph, except I would liken him to a judge (or maybe a stern principal) rather than a classroom teacher.
  14. The odds are less than 5%. Possible, but not probable.
  15. I picked against you but hope Dillard wins. It would life the kid's spirits to scored a huge rivalry win against a "hated" opponent.
  16. He's a Jacksonville area guy, so I doubt he watched the game either live or on film, unless he's now affiliated with Mandarin. So, I think he's just expressing an opinion probably based on gut feeling.
  17. The current proposal would split out the best 32 teams based on current year rankings into a superclass for the playoffs. So, if it were effective this year: Chaminade, Cocoa, ... Edgewater, St. Augustine, ... Bradford, Eu Galle, ... Treasure Coast, Jesuit, ... Cardinal Gibbons, Carolwood Day, ... Palmetto and Deland, would all be in the superclass if the season had ended last Friday. A cursory look at the teams I have included (they were not randomly selected from the 32) demonstrates the absurdity of this method. There is a world of difference between Chaminade and Bradford or Eu Galle. And I could have included more extreme examples. And these 32 teams would be competing for only one state title: The title of titles, so as to speak. And participation would be mandatory. Buddy Collings in the Orlando Sentinel had an article suggesting a modification to the above a week or so ago. In it, he would still break out the top teams. But rather than one title, there would be multiple titles along the way to a grand final for the top title. I forget the details of how the multiple titles would work, but seem to remember there would be at least 3 based on specific criteria. I actually thought his suggestion, on face value had some merit. I see no merit in the current FHSAA proposal for reasons outlined in my first paragraph. I do actually have sympathies for a promote/relegate system. But I would use multiple year performance to separate the schools into tiers at the beginning of this process and would use at least two years results before moving a school up or down a classification. That way, ascent/decent would be a gradual process and would not be affected by one special year.
  18. Bolles vs Berkeley Prep - I could see this going either way to be honest. Brooksville Central vs Umatilla - Two terrible teams. Umatilla in honor of UMA Dog, former poster on Football Central. Clearwater Central Catholic vs Cardinal Gibbons - If CCC takes down Gibbons, they may be able to go deep Dillard vs Ely - I don't feel Dillard gets revenge this year. The game against STA was just too ugly. Florida High vs Lincoln - I believe Lincoln is for real. Gulf vs Nature Coast - Gulf pulls out a close win. Mandarin vs Bartram Trail - Bartram Trail seems to be going in the wrong direction. Earlier in the season I may have selected them South Walton vs Marianna - South Walton wins comfortably. Venice vs Clearwater Academy - Venice wins a close game against a stubborn opponent. Cardinal Newman vs Palm Beach Central - If PBC is to make a run in 4M they need to win this game. Robinson vs Braden River - I will take the South Tampa team Ponte Vedra vs Creekside - See comments re BT. Creekside seems to be in the same situation. Frostproof vs Chiefland - Storied program wins. Lake Mary vs Mainland - In a very interesting game, I will take Lake Mary *SSA Atlantic 1A Championship* Space Coast vs Bell 63 points I have no idea who wins but cannot select a team with no wins. Picks are bold, underscored.
  19. It would certainly make it more interesting. Osceola is currently in a terrible district. But it would involve a lot of travel. If it were just to Melbourne it could work, but the Treasure Coast is a good hike from there.
  20. You are not going to like my pick this week. I am leaning towards the Tigers.
  21. Unfortunately, yes. You now have a more difficult first game as you will have to travel. It would have been nice to be home. With that said, if Osceola is reasonably healthy, and the kids play their best game, beating Treasure Coast is attainable.
  22. With DP as your first playoff opponent, your son's team has a shot at getting to the second round. From there, who knows?
