  1. They are. They have suffered from coaching and other issues. With the last two seasons under their belt, they seem to be doing better. Will it last? That is the question of the decade.
  2. While at the bottom Duval is demonstrably bad per the above. Duval's public schools won two state titles this year: Mandarin and Raines. So, in my opinion, that leaves Pinellas as the sole county in third place.
  3. You could probably add Orlando Evans to that list. In 1991 it was co-state champion and in the 1980s through 2001 was a perennial playoff contender. Today, Evans struggles to win two games in a season. It is not as if athletes are not there. Basketball still does pretty well and the soccer program has had some success over the past 10 seasons. A good staff with the commitment and administrative buy in, could potentially return Evans to playoff contender status.
  4. They benefited from reputation earned the prior two years.
  5. They were young, mostly juniors and sophomore starters with a sprinkling of freshmen in there, too. If the team remains intact, they will be very good in 2019.
  6. But they made it to the third round regional final). It is hard to say a third round team was a bust. Apopka beat them handily and exited sooner. Oh DP, Oh DP ...
  7. Surely this must be a typo. DB has been in the highest class since the early 2000s at least. By contrast Madison over this time has been in the lowest three classes. I doubt these two teams have met in the playoffs over the past 19 seasons.
  8. I believe the answer is either Glades Central or North Florida Christian. But those are guesses. I have not done the research.
  9. It's not Lakeland. In 2009, I believe, St Thomas destroyed them in the State Title game. Scored over 50 while I believe Lakeland scored 7. It was the most totally dominating beat down of an undefeated team I ever saw.
  10. Venice 77 Dwyer 14, State Title game, 2000 Apopka 80 Wekiva 26, regular season 2013 Apopka 70 Edgewater 0, regular season 2013 Apopka 77 University 21, first round playoffs 2013
  11. Somehow, I thought you would have Vanguard in this bowl!
  12. Thanks. That's him for sure. It takes more than just high school talent to succeed in college. It takes dedication and toughness. Some kids are ready and some not. Sorry he's not doing well, but I have come to expect that a large percent of the kids I see will eventually disappoint. It is the ones that surprise me to the upside that makes watching the game worth it.
  13. That's correct. Willie Green is certainly one of the Osceola backs. Bubba Brown may be the other, but I am not sure. At Apopka, a lot of backs have had a ton of yards including: Sammy Smith, Jeremy Gallon, Allan Abrams, Jeremy Rudolph, Steve Baylark, Demetri Burch, Deshawn Massey, Chandler Cox, etc., etc. I would bet the above has the top back and my guess would be Rudolph. But I could be wrong. Timber Creek is Jacques Patrick. Lake Highland Prep, one may be Pooh Bear McNeil
  14. Peez, Peter was not as physical as Patrick, but faster. He was also not as quick as the little, big brother, whose name I also cannot remember, but bigger and more physical. He was somewhere between each of the two. With that said, I would not be surprised if he ends up being the most successful of the three post high school.
  15. Yeah, I remember Chamberlin and Wharton having good teams, as well as Jefferson and Hillsborough. Plant's dominance began with their first good QB in a long time who was a piece of work in his own way.
  16. Okay. Never realized that. Armwood and Plant have been dominant for so long ...
  17. Dunedin was once a very solid program. Leto never was, I believe.
  18. Solid schedule. It will say a lot about the team's ability to go deep in the playoffs.
  19. UCF lost because they were dominated at the line of scrimmage. Even so, they were still in the game and but for five dropped catches by receivers/a tight end, and a dumb ass celebration after a stop, they may still have won the game. Milton was badly missed for this game. No lack of love for Mack, for he is talented enough, but he needs to learn that he can't just stand there stationery in the pocket and expect to not get sacked unless his Offensive Line clearly dominated the defensive line, which was far from the case. Still, UCF is on the verge of building a sustainable program that will elevate it to elite status for years to come. O'Leary could not have left too soon, IMHO; and Scott Frost (I totally understand why he left for Nebraska), may live to regret the day he left this program.
  20. Looked at that way, the Florida schools keep a lot of Florida talent, overall. However, a number of our better players do go out of state. Also interesting is the fact that the schools with broad recruiting geography seem do very well with Alabama being the extreme outlier in that area.
  21. I believe Robert Weiner of Plant may be one. He did not play college ball, of that I am sure. And, I am not sure he played high school either. Weiner has won several state titles since he took over the Plant program.
  22. You should regard that as an investment, though. Mastery of spreadsheet functions can save a heap of time in the future. Don't get too daunted by mistakes at first. Invest the time. You know I only provide sound advice.
