    I’m looking for 2024 schedules not 2023

Am I bad. If you go to their X page, I believe the 2024 schedule is up. Not sure how I ended up posting the 2023 schedule and not the 2024 one in the message.

Saw this agenda item on the upcoming FHSAA Board of Directors meeting:

You've got to give an "A" for creativity.  And we would get even more "champions"!

So, the Rural B State Champion would, at best, be the 17th best rural team in the state, huh?   Hmmmm.

Even if this works for the Rural class(es), I object strenuously to any such implementation in the other classes. So the intent is to have like 14-15 "state champs" with half of them coming from the lower echelons of each class? Or am I missing something?

@nolebull813 thanks for posting this. I took the time to leaf through the yearbook. It was quite informative, especially for a man originally from Jamaica. From beginning to the end of their journey, the graduating class shrunk by more than 80%. To put that into perspective, that's an alarming but understandable rate for the times.

I have no idea how that graduating class fared in their lives. WW2 was not that far off; the Great Depression was dead ahead; and the USA was a lot less hospitable to those of us "not blessed" with a certain ancestry.

I don't know what motivated you to post this, but want to express my appreciation to you for doing so.

Definitely integrated. Desegregation started in 1967 officially so 1971 wasn’t that long of a time after. But 24/71 is a good number for only 5 years

Yeah, the percentages resemble a Boone, Winter Park or Lake Brantley in Orlando today.

I checked their yearbook. I counted 71 players with at least 24 being black. This site won’t let me upload pictures.

So, Norland was an integrated school in 1971. Back then, the Northern part of Dade County was mostly white. The black population lived downtown or in Central Dade County where Miami Northwestern is.

Only black schools in dade during the late 60s were mays, carver, northwestern & booker t (I may be wrong because they converted to a middle school around that same time). There were some outliers but most football teams did not integrate til the late 60s.

What happened to Mays and Carver? Where did their kids go after they closed or merged into other schools? It's a pity Mays did not survive. Willie Mays was an iconic baseball player.

I know, looks like the Treasure Coast area was denying South Florida teams state title appearances, Vero also beat Northwestern along the way to the title game in 1981

Back in 1971, Norland was most likely a majority white school. It may have been all white as I am not sure when the schools were desegregated in Miami.

I watched very few of the bowl games myself, but I did watch the three CFP games.

That said, I must say I find it a little bit ironic that the poster who confesses to having watched zero college football post-season games goes by the moniker "SportsFan."   :P

He's a high school sports fan. Kind of like me. I watch the super bowl, and the National Championship college game, and, if UCF is having a really good year, I may attend a home game as my wife is an alum. But aside from that, I watch High School sports, especially football. I guess it's because it used to reflect the game at its purest, where the great majority of the participants will end their careers when they graduate.

Unfortunately, it has lost much of its purity over the past 25 seasons.

A 32 team open division would destroy the credibility and water down the other classes. An 8 team open division would put the super teams in one division while maintaining some competitiveness in the other classes.

8-16 sounds about right. It would remove all the real powerhouse teams while not forcing some very good, but not great teams, into a group with the best of the best where they would have little chance of ever winning it all.

Per the Infractions Appeals Committee page (which is outdated), to obtain information for the current year you will need to send an email to EmailEligibility@fhsaa.org. Otherwise, you would have to check two sections under Governance Meeting Archives: Infractions Appeals Committee and Section Appeals Committee.

I hope that is close to what you were looking for.  I also seem to recall violations under the regular meeting minutes but did not look.

Looks like a check the boxes but do nothing deal to me. But what do I know.

At first glance, this was a shocker. But, the truth is football programs are very expensive. They must generate revenue through fan attendance and booster clubs.  It appears CAI was not able to generate enough revenue to continue the program.

This doesn't figure to have a huge impact on area teams, as most of the team was from out of the country and housed in Clearwater by CAI. Most of their players will probably head to IMG or will return to their home countries.

I have bitter sweet feelings about this.

While it would generally be an awful development, one "problem" could be partly solved. If boosters are able to build "collectives" of some sort to offer enticements to players, new schools could emerge as elite. Schools with big, wealthy booster clubs might be able to attract major talent from across the state or even country. Maybe someone like Vero Beach or Niceville etc could put together impressive "NIL" deals that urban powerhouses with less financially generous booster clubs can't come up with. We could see kids moving from Dade/Broward up to Vero to get some big NIL package. Of course I'm just throwing out random ideas, and I don't know how plausible any of it really is. But, a smaller scale version of the college landscape seems possible if not likely.

Some intriguing things could come out of this that would forever change the nature of high school sports. But, in a sense, it's the logical end game for where we are heading. Celebration in the Orlando metro statistical area may yet bag a football title!

Gotta love this ad in the FHSAA Classifieds.  Looks like DeLand is going to be down this year.  Anyone buying it?

    Football Games Needed Weeks 2,4,7,9

    Post Date: 01/09/2024
    Sport: Football (11 man)
    County: Volusia
    School Name: DeLand
    Contact Name: Rick Darlington
    Contact Phone: +1 (352) 455-9563
    Contact Email: coachrickdarlington@gmail.com

Deland High School needs four football games this cycle. Weeks 2, 4, 7, 9, & 11 are available. All of our good players were seniors. Now is a good time to play. Please contact Rick Darlington at 352-455-9563 or by email at coachrickdarlington@gmail.com.

They are going to be young. But I am sure talent is there. And I am sure coach Darlington will figure out how to use it effectively. Still, a game against Deland would be a good challenge for many teams. I encourage anyone short a game or two to embrace this challenge. VB, that includes you, too.

Yet again, Venice has ventured up into Tampa Bay and convinced a quarterback to transfer down to Venice.   This time, rising senior QB Jayce Nixon is leaving Gaither and reportedly has enrolled at Venice, where he will play his senior year.   What's the deal?  Can't Venice grow and develop its own QB's?

Venice is a relatively small town. It's a lot easier to raid Tampa or even Sarasota.
