So the Apopka game was close until Apopka put them away?
Score wise it was early in the third quarter when DP scored. But in reality, DP sleepwalked through that game. Usually, DP/Apopka is a huge rivalry decided by a touchdown or less. The night of this game it was as if the ghost of DP showed up.
I really can't explain what I saw any better. Pipe Dreams is close to the DP program and probably knows more if he is willing to share publicly.

I'm not counting them out at all in fact I could see them pullin off back to back wins against Cen10 and Vero, then I'll know they foreal bout defending their state title, TBH they have more recent playoff experience than both teams
If the 2018 version of DP pulls off back to back wins against Centennial and Vero Beach, it will be because those two teams are greatly overrated and were not going to be an 8A threat, period.
Even if DP accomplishes the above, their season will end the following week. Look for DP to be strong again next year. This year is more or less a lost cause as far as a State Title run is concerned.

Who remembers this game, at the time these two teams had two of the best QBs playing on their teams....
Kinda crazy that ironically Vero beat both of em in the season openers, fun fact
Was the Philadelphia Eagles's Tight End, Burton, Venice's Quarterback back then?

On CG?
Yes, I believe Jones has a great shot at getting revenge even though they will have to travel to their place. Jones may well be the best team in Orlando this year. They were heavily touted last year and disappointed. This year they are totally flying under the radar and are at least as good as they were a year ago.
I feel that this has led to a lack of pressure on them as there are very few expectations. We will see. They have by far the most impressive local win against Bishop Moore this year and it is for a reason.

Most talented in north but i wouldn't ignore a team like Cardinal Gibbons in terms of talent or a team like AHP (who lost at home to CG)
If Trinity gets CG at state they better take them seriously because they are good
I smell an upset in 5A South.

I’m confused too, how is Wekiva predicted to win states when they lost to a eighth ranked playoff team named west orange. And they have to play them again in first round! Upset coming for a couple of people
I would be mildly surprised, but immensely happy, if West Orange could repeat.

The new staff has had a great season and the program now has a foundation to build on.

If we being honest with ourselves this region has 3 teams and everyone else, the winner of the region will end up being Lakeland, Plant, or Viera
I don't see anyone else in the region that i feel could win it
Lakeland should be the big favorite to win this region. They will be Columbia's Semifinal opponent provided the Tigers take care of business.

great. they stink at 0-9 and should be home. There are 8-2 squads sitting home. This is a statewide embarassment.
The problem lies partly with the class they are in which is terrible. Reduce the number of classes by two and this team would not be in the playoffs.

Does the current system potentially reward FL teams for finding "good" teams in football-weak states and playing them? Coconut Creek could not beat 4 teams in its own district, but found a powder puff in another state and that helps them make the playoffs? Am I missing something here? Maybe there is an assumption that OOS games are all tough, but clearly this one was not.
If the details can be worked out, strategically scheduling out of state competition can certainly be advantageous. The trick is to find said team that would be willing to play.

Not the winner. But probably the margin.

Seminole(8A), Lake Nona(7A) and River Ridge(5A) all missed out by 0.2.
I feel real bad for Seminole. They are a better team than at least two of the 8a, Region 1 playoff teams. But I guess they determined their own fate when they lost to Oviedo.

Dr Phillips is down and I mentioned that but they did atleast hold y'all off in the first half of the game tho being down 14-0 at halftime ain't bad but y'all did run away with em in the second half
If you had been at the game and seen what I saw, you would not be worried about DP. In fact, you would want them to beat Centennial who gave you trouble in the regular season.
Being an inexperienced team, Centennial may lose Friday. However, if they play up to the form they showed against VB, they should win.

Jensen Beach (6-4) were the 8th seed going into the final week and got jumped by then 10th seed Norland(4-6). They got screwed in the aspect Centenial and Port St Lucie decided to call their game due to lightning. This made Centinial 7-2. Most likely they would of beat PSL and made them a Cat 1 team if I’m correct at 8-2 and given PSL a 5 point bump and they would have made the playoffs. By canceling the game and not making up at a different time or location PSL got screwed out if the playoffs due to the points, they did what they needed to due but got let down by another team the final week.
Given the new points system, all games should be made up. To have games not played or ending without a result is not acceptable. In fact, it may create a situation where two teams willfully conspire against another team keeping them out by creating just such a situation.

Will this year's 23 benefactors of the new system in Classes 5A-8A do better than the 21 from last year? How did the latter do?
- 14 lost in the first round of the playoffs (7 of these teams lost by >21 points)
- 5 lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs
- 2 lost in the 3rd round of the playoffs (region finals)
How many of the 23 below will make it past the first round? How many will make it to a region final? Am just curious what ya'll think?8AWest Orange(7-3)Palm Coast(7-3)Gateway(5-5)Treasure Coast(8-3)Miramar(6-3)South Dade(8-2)7AFletcher(7-3)Gaither(7-3)Wiregrass Ranch(7-3)Palmetto(7-3)Tampa Bay Tech(7-3)South Miami(8-2)6APace(7-3)Lake Weir(7-3)South Lake(6-4)Northwestern(5-5)Norland(4-6)5ABolles(6-4)Hernando(7-3)Desoto County(6-3)Jefferson(5-5)Merritt Island(5-5)Coconut Creek(6-4)The teams I have bolded have a shot. I would also add West Orange to the list if they can somehow beat Wekiva a second time. But that is a tall order though I would not put it past coach Head.

The state caused people to have to leave their public schools because this state doesn't give a damn about the education at public schools so they continue to underfund it
Funny they have millions for IMG but have nothing for the publics in this state
Shh h, IMG is very well connected. It is what we have come to with our politics.

They are not debating that Jesuit won. They are not even saying they did not deserve to win. They are just saying the game was not a blowout. I believe they were both there and I trust the integrity of the posters to give an honest account of the game.

Dr Phillips comes in the playoffs as the defending state champs and they maybe down but they played a hellacious and I was looking at their box scores and the only team that truly blew them out were Lee County, but despite that, they actually put up a fight with Apopka and Wekiva......Sometimes scores might not tell the whole truth....
Here is the box scores
Lee County
West Orange
Apopka
Mainland
Wekiva
All these teams including Lee County actually didn't have too much of a big lead over Dr Phillips at halftime which is pretty good, a schedule like this could kill you or make you a tough opponent for the playoffs.....
Bad Bird and I probably disagree on this, but my take on DP is that they are real down this year. If they beat Centennial and you get DP at home and they beat VB at their place, then VB was not a contender to begin with and once again benefited from a relatively soft schedule.
Not sure why you say what you did about their game with Apopka. However, except for a brief period early in the third quarter when they scored, they were never in the game and did not look like the DP I am used to. Usually, DP vs Apopka games are within a touchdown either way. This time the final DP vs Apopka score was an accurate reflection of the two teams that night.

8 team districts and no scheduling flexibility
I hope that never passes, our district games are generally boring games already
I agree. Districts should be between 5 and 7 teams each. No less than 5 or more than 7. That way, you don't have the three and four team cheesy districts, but you do have the ability to schedule at least four games outside the district.

Not to mention Columbia high is the only school in Lake City area
Fort White is so isolated that their fanbase is the fans on the very south end of the county
The people in Lake City go to Columbia so it's basically entire Lake City as the fanbase without serious competition from other schools and that's all we can get
It was just sad
Hopefully, the playoff attendance is like the Fletcher game. This Columbia team has earned the support of the community.
FINAL MIAMI CENTRAL 35 DILLARD 20

Posted
Dillard had a great season. If they had been in 8A or 5A, I believe they would have made a run at the state title this year.
Great season for the new staff and if everything remains in tact, look for Dillard to make several deep runs and possibly win a title over the next 1 to 5 years.
The talent was always there. It just needed the right staff. Hopefully the kids stay home and play for the Panthers.
