Lol that’s str8 foolishness what happen to going by what u have done on paper their a 1-0 team going off a first round play off exit and a second round blow our second round exit the year before.

I think Deerfield's problem is in their heads. They don't believe they are worthy so they have a culture of losing when the going gets tough. I have seen very talented DB teams lose games they had every reason to win. Until they show me they are for real, I can't take them seriously. It's amazing that a team that can beat St. Thomas more than once during the regular season can't win one 8A title.

Im sick of this Deerfield hype yes they went 10-0 a few years back NO CHAMPIONSHIP THO they beat sta a couple of times in the regular season ok cool so have Miramar but guess what STILL NO CHAMPIONSHIPS NOT EVEN A STATE TITLE APPERANCE

In 2005, they had their first and only state title appearance after upsetting the Bulls in the semifinals. Unfortunately they melted down in the title game losing by over 20 points as they gave up 48 to Palm Beach Gardens. In their semis, PBG had eked out a 10-7 win over Winter Park. So DB came into the title game a heavy favorite. And PBG proceeded to run the ball up and down the field on them. In 2003, DB was undefeated and at home against a three loss Edgewater in the semifinal with an SEC D1 QB. And guess what? He tossed an interception on DB's first drive which was converted for 6. Edgewater never gave up the lead on its way to a showdown against Carol City.

Have you ever been there?  Bartram Trail has really nice field.  The turf (real grass) is amazing and kept up really well.

I have not. The closest I have been is: St. Augustine and Fletcher. But I am not surprised, it is in an affluent suburb of the Jacksonville metro area. Sort of like a Lake Mary, perhaps?

I figured I would make the trip because in years past, this is exactly the kind of team that would give Apopka's defense a lot of trouble. I want to see how the current secondary responds to an air assault. They have looked promising so far, but I see this as a real test of how far this Darter team can go this year.

I will be at Spec Martin Stadium to see if Deland is back.

    Seminole vs Deland

    Battle of the Bridge

    I got Seminole 28-24

This is a coin flip. If one team wins big, I would be surprised.

I am making the trip to St. John's County to watch Apopka take on Bartram Trail. This is an interesting match-up.

Here are my current projections for final 4 in each class

I'll revisit and revise after week 7 and again week of first round of playoffs and see how many i get right

Unless DP improves a lot, they are not final 4 candidates this year. Osceola and Vero Beach both better at this stage.

Palm Beach Central is hyped in Region 3, but I don't think they make it there either.

Regarding Dwyer, I don't think they get past St. Thomas Aquinas.

In 8A, Region 1, I will get back to you after the next two weeks.

In tonight’s game vs MC gibbons qb schalzo sufferd a injury to his shoulder not sure if it’s his throwing shoulder but he was seen leaving the game with his shoulder wrapped in a cast.

This could make or break gibbons season with more big games coming up.

Sorry to hear that. I believe he is a  senior. Would be hard to sit out your senior season.

..a shout out to Windermere, who after an 0-10 inaugural season last year, lost a close one to Cypress Creek 30-27.  Considering they did not score a TD in any of their games last season, this was a huge offensive output.:)

Now if the truth be known, Cypress Creek is  horrible at football and many other sports. In the 20 years I have followed Central Florida football, they have made the playoffs once, and with brothers who were allowed  to play for them since their school did not play football. But still, nice.

Amare Stoudemire payed his senior year of basketball there, and they barely made the .500 mark that year.  Consider that the next year, Amare was in the NBA making waves, and that says all you need to know ...

STA was in that game very late if that interception ain't happened then STA woulda been at States again

Yes, but most years Venice would not have even had a chance. Last year STA was just good, but beatable.

DP having major problems on offense.

I’d put them in the 7-10 range at this point.

The defense can’t do it alone.

Sorry for the loss. I was pulling for DP.  And Lee is nowhere near as good as North Gwinnett or Colquit. Florida may end up getting stomped by Georgia.

    ...Deland's 30-20 win over Mainland.

Over the past 6 seasons, Mainland has beaten Deland 6 times by a combined score of 196-30!  So, Deland scored as many points last night as they did in the past 6 years.  Deland lost 24-0 last year and 35-0 win in 2016.

Deland is going to be pretty solid this year. I am not that surprised as Mainland was not very impressive against Apopka last week. I think that unless Mainland makes  a lot of improvement they will be one and done in the playoffs this year.

  11. Edgewater beat Bishop Moore in a defensive struggle played with intensity but marred by penalties 24-20. The game lasted 3:33 minutes and was decided when Edgewater sacked the BM QB on fourth and long with less than 40 seconds left in the game.

Edgewater has a ton of very good athletes, but shot themselves in the foot with penalties. BM took advantage of their opportunities despite being outgunned talent wise and came close to gutting out the win. Both teams are solid playoff caliber teams but will have difficult paths to Camping World Stadium. Still it would not be out of the question for either or both to make a deep run.

Clearwater Central Catholic vs Tampa Berkeley Prep

Berkeley Prep made the state semifinals in 3A back in 2016 but did not make the playoffs in 2017 but it wasn't for lack of effort or talent. Berkeley Prep lost 4 games by a TD or less.  I expect that to change this year as the Buccaneers have one of the most electrifying QB's in the state in Joshua Youngblood.  Berkeley is also home to one of the top linebackers in the country Jr. Jaylen Harrell.  As is typical of any Dominick Ciao coached team the Bucs are very strong across both the offensive and defensive lines.

CCC really doesn't need an introduction since they've become a household name in 3A making the playoffs 19 of the past 22 years, winning 6 regional championships (1 state finals) and not suffering a losing regular season since 1996. The 2018 version of CCC is also loaded with power 5 potential. Brothers  Sr. JerJuan and Jr. Jerzhan Newton both return along with Qb Rory Hicks, WR Brett Seither TE/DE Kennedy Roberts and a host of talented playmakers. Perhaps the biggest steal of the off season was Sophomore Makkah Jordan transferring in along with his brother Melvin giving CCC even more weapons to play with. CCC is also very young as the team only has 8 seniors on a 45 player roster.

Prediction: CCC 28,  Berkeley prep 20

I like this game. If I were over in Tampa I would go see it. Think it has the makings of a great game!

Good for you.  I learned a great icebreaker to make friends when I visited there.  Just walk in a sports bar and start talking real loud about how much better hs football is in Florida and ask them if all that horseback riding makes them run so slow.  You'll be one of them before you know it.:)

Man, that's straight up abuse you setting Panther up for man.

    13. Lake Mary stomped Hagerty in the KOC.  Host a good Palm Bay Heritage week 1.  Lake Mary will start a freshman QB in Gunnar Smith

Gunnar Smith looks very good on film for a freshman QB. I see he played his Pop Warner in the Lake Brantley system. Kid has a shot at being very good.

I think we lose first or second round this year

As long as you win district, you probably get a first round home game against a so so team. But unless Vero improves a lot during the season, it's going to get tough to get beyond the second round. Last year's Vero team looked better from out the gate.
