8a is a head scratcher right now!! WHO IS THE FAVORITE TO WIN 8A!!!! Lol!!

There is no real favorite at this time. Come the playoffs, one or two teams may separate themselves. My dark horse from Central Florida is Seminole High. They are young, but talented.

But I could see any of: Apopka, DP, Wekiva, Seminole, Osceola, Winter Park, Vero Beach, Riverview or Orange City representing the North, maybe even Spruce Creek.

In the South, I could see: Columbus, Miami High, South Ridge, Deerfield Beach, Miramar or maybe even South Dade.

Is Williams #1?  If so yes they need to play him more at QB.  It appears they did that this game. They ran a lot of zone schemes the game I went too and their OL doesn't seem to fit zone blocking.  I do have faith that their OC will figure it out.  He was the OC at Edgewater when they were dominating Central Florida.  I would love to see Wekiva and Apopka meet up in the third round of the playoffs.  Imagine how packed that would be.

Yes. Is the OC Buddy Hurd?

Yes, a third round between Apopka vs Wekiva would have at least 7000. Both teams have to get there first, though.

umm Wekiva's offense is brutal and only scored 15 points vs a bad Olympia defense.  Wekiva is not a contender unless their defense shuts everyone out.

With Brandon Williams at QB, Wekiva's offense is adequate. The kid is a good runner and an average plus passer. When Sean Robles is taking the snaps, the offense tends to stall because while he has a decent arm he is not accurate; and he is not a runner.

If Wekiva can score 14 or more against quality teams they are difficult to beat.

Wekiva 14 DP 0.  Wekiva has a great defense.

Not really a shocker. DP has not impressed me much this year. I thought last year's team was at least a level better. I did pick DP to win this game mostly because Wekiva had shown very little offense in its last two games.

    A few comments:

    1. I did not see any Wekiva players kneel when the anthem was played. Perhaps administration had a say in this.

    2. The best team won tonight. Wekiva missed a field goal wide right in the second quarter from 35 yards just wide right.

    3. Wekiva fumbled the ball at the DP 2 in the third quarter which DP recovered in the end zone for a touch back.

    4. The score was all zero till the fourth. Wekiva scored on a 35 yard QB keeper (Brandon WIlliams) midway through the 4th.

    5. Former Blue Darter Cayvian Holmes sealed the deal with a pick 6 on DP's next posession.

If these two teams meet again, I don't know what will happen. However, tonight Wekiva deserved the win. Their defensive interior is very, very good and their secondary is good. Apopka will have its hands full against them later this month.

I can appreciate Beasley stepping up and doing something different.  There needed to be change.  The point system needs to be adjusted.  The 3 bonus points for teams making the playoffs is silly.   Because Leon or Gateway or any bad team now made the playoffs and Miami Norland didn't you get bonus points for playing Leon but not for playing Miami Norland.  More points need to be added for playing good teams or less points need to be given for beating bad teams.  A 1 point win over Mount Dora Christian should not be worth 53 points and a one point loss to IMG worth 33 points.

I agree with most of the above. However, going forward, the new system should make it more difficult for really bad teams to make the playoffs. So the Leon and Gateway vis a viz Norland, should to some degree go away.

The one thing I do take some issue with is the comment about beating bad teams. While I agree that a one point loss to an IMG or Lakeland should not get 33 points versus 50 points for a close win over a Mount Dora Christian, in general, who would make the call as to which team is bad? Take the Hagerty situation. I believe they made the playoffs last year; hence, beating them this year garners a decent amount of points, even though they may not be very good this year.

Perhaps a better solution would have been if we had kept the District winner/runner up situation but mandated that a district needed to be at least 4 teams or if three or less were allowed, then only the district champ would automatically be in with some kind of Regional wild card situation to deal with the other spot (s).

Why do u hope that we don't ? It will be some good games with us vs other independent teams

Because Dillard has a better history and tradition than that. And, I do believe Dillard could be competitive with the best in Florida with some changes.

If you move down to independent, there is no incentive to restore the program to its better years!

If Dillard goes independent they won't be the clear best team by any stretch but they will be able to compete ...in going to bring it up to our Ad today so we can really make that move

I hope Dillard does not make that move. I believe Dillard can compete in 6A with some changes to the program.

They are only private in 7a

Most privates of similar size are in 8a

I believe Columbus and Belan Jesuit are the only 8A privates. Columbus is bigger than St. Thomas (adjusted for being an all boys school), Belan is not. I believe St. Thomas is a middle tier 7A school in terms of population. Belan moved to 8A due to the huge Miami District in 7A and the fact Columbus is a rival.

Idk why sta is in 7a as only private

6a or 8a would be far more competitive for them district wise and considering they a private I'm sure they could move sta up to 8a without complaint since i doubt sta would really whine about a tougher region,  they seem like a team who would welcome the challenge

There are 8A teams that would not welcome St. Thomas. Personally, I am fine with them remaining in 7A.

I could never see them doing north vs south bc i doubt enough schools would approve of it and personally i would be against it

The logistics would not work in some of the classifications. Too much travel during the playoffs for some teams would result from this. To be honest, the new system with any team within each region playing any other depending on the regular season, seems pretty good to me.
