That was a mistake on my part that was posted three times. I do not believe that you are dimwitted either. However, you should keep your "opinion" of the officiating to yourself because you, similar to the vast majority of posters to this message board, are not qualified to rate or critique officials or officiating.

I did withhold my opinion. I clearly stated as much. In any event, the right team won.

  2. Halftime.  Homestead leads by 9. From what I have seen so far, both teams are solid. Thinking way ahead, at this juncture, the Orlando area team that would give Columbus's defense the most trouble is Lake Mary with they high tempo passing offense.

If they met Columbus in the semifinals or finals, I could see a shootout in the region of the Apopka vs Cypress Bay final in 2012.

Single wing isn't exactly an offense that avoids passing, it's just the fact that it's typically better setup for running teams but if you have a guy who is athletic enough to be a runner and throw you can still be a good passing team with the offense

As it was at Apopka when Jeremey Gallon or Chandler Cox took most of the snaps. We were still run biased, but were also a threat to pass and many times caught teams napping.

Yea I agree. I vote number three as well.

If you do go for choice 3, though, you will have to have tie breakers each week. Select a game and have each participant forecast either the point spread of the final result or the total number of points in the game or some such statistic. If not, we likely have some posters facing elimination tied at the end of each round.

Vanguard is a good state depth team. They are annually anywhere between 30 and 75 in the state. They beat a top-five Colorado team this year. Who is currently ranked number one in their classification.

That is exactly right. They have consistently been the best Public School in Marion county for several years. But they have lacked the overall ability to get to a semifinal let alone a title game.

Buchholz has a decent win vs Vanguard. Problem is there is only so many good teams and good wins. Not every team is gonna have big statement wins. Or else they would be highly ranked. And not everyone can be highly ranked.

Vanguard this year is what Vanguard has been the last several years, no better, no worse. A playoff team, sure. But a title contender, I very much doubt it.

I tend to agree with you on most points, but doubt that Osceola year in and year out get the number and quality of transfers like Cocoa does.  Just look at one position for Cocoa the past few years as a clear example,  QB!   These kids that just "SHOW UP" were in their school boundaries?    Must be MAGIC.

Sure. Cocoa recruits, but the meat of their program is still based on homegrown kids. I kind of mentioned them as an afterthought, because of the fact that they do get a fair number of transfers at critical positions.

How should we do the pick ems to decide the champion?

    1. Add up the regular season and playoff totals combined to see who has the most overall wins

    2. Take the 8 highest posters from the regular season and whoever has the most playoff wins, wins it all

    3. 10 posters go into the playoffs and every round the bottom 2 get eliminated until there are only 2 posters left for the state finals.

Because I am an elitist, I favor choice number 3. It aligns with the playoff system of having only the two best in the final games.

So why are teams like Pine Forest (last year) and Buchholz (by you and others) so high this year?

I think they are going off Pine Forest's great showing in the state title game in 2021. I am at a loss as to why Buchholz is being afforded the same treatment.

Back then you would have been laughed at suggesting Miami Central and Chaminade would EVER be amongst the best in the nation.  They were below average to terrible in the 80's and 90's.  Many of the programs above were bad for LONG periods of time.

We talk about haves and have nots, but STA and Lakeland are the ONLY programs over the past 20 years that have consistently had very strong teams year in and out.

Some of these teams may be riding a crest now but could be doormats in 20 years.   Nade had a huge dropoff for about 10 years and it could happen again very quickly.

Yes it is VERY different today.  But the scene today has not made it any easier for the rich to stay in power.  If anything it is easier for a great program to completely collapse.  The rich might be rich today but I would bet on ANY of the rich teams today being in that same position 20 years from now except for STA.

That is true to a degree. For most of the rich depend on transfers to maintain their status. That requires either monetary reward such as a scholarship in the case of the privates, or convincing kids in an area that school X is the place to be. Apopka, Osceola and Mainland all in Central to East Central Florida, have, to a degree, maintained strong programs without overly depending on transfers over the past 20+ years. Cocoa, despite a couple down years, has done pretty much the same. But they have been able to do this, by having great talent based in their schools boundaries, and by convincing the kids that they should stay home.

In the case of Apopka, this is bolstered by the fact that a good amount of our talent comes from Plymouth and Zellwood, which are both in the rural part of Orange County and which would make it very difficult for them to commute to any of the other better area programs unless mommy or daddy had the money to buy them reliable transportation, which they would not as these are poor sections of Apopka.

Yeah didn’t they tie for a title in 91?

They tied Miami Southridge. I believe the score was 22 a piece. Southridge took a decent early lead off of Evans's miscues only to fritter it away. They stormed back on their final drive to tie the game and had a chance to win it, but the xtra point went wide left.
