  1. Josh pulled a Lake Mary last night who all but lost in the first round.
  2. I also hope there is no serious off the field drama. Don't want any fans, players or coaches to get hurt.
  3. Most teams, good or bad, play better from the front. There are a few that tend to come from behind, but personally, I don't like that drama. Take the lead early and pull away towards the finish. That's the way to do it in the playoffs. Leave no doubt!
  4. You are absolute right on that. If you fall behind at all, it should be by no more than 7. You need to be in the game from the get go and preferably have them play from behind.
  5. I have a good feeling about Dillard's chances in this game. The key is to minimize penalties and not turn the ball over unnecessarily.
  6. Given recent trends in the Orlando area, I am pretty sure that between rising sophomores/freshmen and a transfer or two, the team will be okay. There's also the possibility that David Parks, currently at Seminole, but who did his freshman year at Lake Mary, and who still lives in Lake Mary, will decide to play his senior year at Lake Mary. Parks is one of those athletes that can play multiple positions. I believe he left Lake Mary at the end of his freshman year because he wanted to play QB and figured he had a better shot at Seminole. Going into his Junior year this spring, the job seemed to be his. But at the 11th hour, a four star QB who was committed to Penn State showed up and has been the starter. Parks has played WR/RB and some QB, mostly in wildcat type situations this year. He also punts and can play safety if necessary. Ironically, he scored the first of the two touchdowns that gave Seminole the win with less than 5 minutes in the game when he caught a 47 yard pass.
  7. The disparity in abilities is actually pretty shocking. It must be that some schools, despite having over a thousand students, are almost totally lacking in athletic talent, or at least athletic talent that chooses to play football.
  8. In International Soccer competitions, as well as in the major professional leagues, you get a mandatory one game suspension for being red carded. This is with the proviso that frequent behavior that warrants red cards will earn you longer suspensions. What I saw in the video warranted no more than red cards and one game suspensions for the two players. What I saw in the Lakeland vs Kathleen video warranted suspensions of more than one game for the offending players.
  9. I hope you are wrong. At the end of the day, it's only a football game. There are far worse trials and tribulations in life than losing a football game to your most hated rival.
  10. If they don't beat STA and Apopka takes down Seminole in the second round, then I will make my way back to Central Florida for the Lake Mary rematch even though I can't think of a way to beat the Rams unless their QB is not available for the game.
  11. I understand that. I believe the Panthers have it in them to do so. I know it would be the upset of the decade, but upsets do happen.
  12. I got the Panthers in this game. I said I would be at Otis Grey if you were alive Thanksgiving and I intend to keep my promise.
  13. Guaranteed playing time on Varsity to a freshman moving in from the greater Atlanta area, free transportation to and from school, the opportunity to play on a state championship team, guaranteed power 5, recruitment, I could go on and on. Look, Apopka would certainly welcome a kid coming in from out of the area. Maybe we would go as far as promising a sport in a magnet program that would allow him to attend Apopka , if his grades were up to par and the parents did not choose to live within the school's boundaries. But some of the other stuff ... geez ...
  14. From personal experiences this year, talking to parents of kids in the stands who have recently moved to the metro Orlando area, kids are recruited heavily. In three conversations, on three different nights, I got the same information regarding their decisions to live in particular areas and send their kids to particular schools. I can truthfully say that five schools in particular, were on the list of each of these parents as schools that recruited their kids very aggressively. Of course, it would not be appropriate to list names in this venue. I will close by saying that the list of promises made would make a timeshare salesman blush.
  15. I believe Charlotte is in as the 7th seed. Don't quote me on that, but you may want to check.
  16. I thought the Indians were going to lose to Charlotte.
  17. I mostly agree with you. Even under provocation, a coach should try and remain level headed. There are several other ways a kid can be disciplined. By the same token, I am not sure that what the Jesuit coach did warranted instant dismissal. Suspension and a talking to with the threat that repeat offenses of that nature would lead to termination may have been more appropriate.
  18. It was not Rolle, it was Roland Smith. Rolle left the year before that, before later returning after Smith's firing several years later. ICE Harris was the offensive coordinator. I don't remember who the DC was.
  19. I am glad you found a new home. I suspect it's not a big hike from where you are now. I wish you success in the new job. As for Poinciana, although I don't wish ill on the program, I can't help but think that they will revert to where they were. Wekiva did the same thing with their head coach recently. They let him go with two games left in the season. As far as I can determine, it was not for something inexcusable, but due to tension/disagreements between him and members of his administration. To me, the correct way to make a change except in cases where the coach committed an a very bad offense, is to wait till the season ends, especially, as was the case with Wekiva, if you were still in the playoff hunt.
  20. Rural - Pahokee vs Dixie County - Come on Pahokee, you have at least a first round win in you! Lafayette vs Branford - Repeat of regular season 2S - Hudson vs Dunnellon - Coin toss Titusville vs Palm Bay - Titusville has its best team in years and wins a playoff game. 3S - Leesburg vs Auburndale - Coach Steven Moffitt continues his post WPHS success Fort Myers vs Dunbar - The Green Wave turns the tables. 4S - Wiregrass Ranch vs Springstead - I think Wiregrass is the better team. Ponte Vedra vs Creekside - PV let me down last week. 2M - Robinson vs Tampa Catholic - Robinson won for me last week. Ed White vs Bishop Moore - Hornets show Jax team that Orange County football is tough. 3M - St Petersburg vs Gaither - Coin toss. Ely vs Dillard - Panthers get revenge over a hated rival. 4M - Jupiter vs Boca Raton - Coin toss Santaluces vs Palm Beach Gardens - Palm Beach Gardens is inconsistent. REPLACEMENT GAMES: Immokalee vs Gulf Coast - Could go either way Palm Harbor U vs Durant - Could go either way Southridge vs Hialeah - I am going with history. Hialeah has had a soft schedule. Estero vs Hardee - Estero's two losses were to very good teams. Picks are bold underscore.
  21. Coach, I am sorry to hear the news. I don't know you, but I have seen the school's progress under your leadership. I wish you the best. As in a football play, at times you go backwards in order to break a big play. I hope you find another program that can use your passion.
