  1. Guess I misread the title of this thread. Thought is said "laid"; not "paid". Thought it was going to be interesting, but meh.
  2. He'll have to be to turn that program around.
  3. Pollard ready for family time, resigns from Pine Forest BRIAN ACHATZ , bachatz@pnj.com9:37 p.m. CST December 14, 2016 (Photo: News Journal file photo) 210CONNECTTWEETLINKEDINCOMMENTEMAILMORE The Pensacola prep football community will turn the page on a new chapter in the 2017 season. Jerry Pollard — the area's longest-tenured coach and a staple of the Pine Forest Eagles — announced his resignation as Pine Forest head coach Wednesday. Pollard will retain duties as Pine Forest athletic director.
  4. NCAA All-Stars and the NFL Champs played exhibition games from 1934 to 1976. The NFL won 31 of the 42 games, the All-Stars won 9, and two games ended in ties.
  5. ... about a month ago. It just now made it to the scoop. The position is not advertised, so one would assume they already have their new coach lined up.
  6. Leto has won 14 games since 2007. Two were forfeit wins.
  7. Munroe, Aucilla, and other teams of their ability levels can compete with 1A only very, very rarely. Aucilla lost this season to Franklin County for example, and to Branford by 33 points... and Aucilla won way more than they lost against Independents. (6-2). Both of those school have less than 100 kids in HS and it's not uncommon for 7th and 8th graders to be starters - they're not going to have a chance against schools with 3 to 6 times their HS populations very often.
  8. Halifax had 66 kids in HS according to the 2015 population report. That's tough. How much could a school that size pay a coach?
  9. Then what is the point of remaining Independent?
  10. I believe his was an interim position. The previous coach had back issues that forced him to put football down.
  11. Hope the little mice (Aucilla, Munroe, St. JP2, Oak Hall, St Joseph, St Francis. St John, Lutheran, etc) in 2A don't drop out, like they usually do, after seeing who they have to play. Rocky Bayou, with over twice almost all of their enrollments, opted to cower in the Independents.
  12. I see that Gulf HS has sporadic bursts of competitiveness, and then it's like it melts away the next year. Does anyone have insight as to what gives?
  13. There is a lot to be said for continuity.
  14. Gulf Breeze over Crestview? Navarre over Niceville? ehhh.....
  15. Franklin/Apalachicola/Carabelle has always had kids that won't go to workouts, off-season or in-season, parents who support their kids lack of work ethic, and administrations that blame the head coach first for kids not performing to the high expectations of the parents (the same ones that are ok with their kids skipping workouts and practices). Used to be that when the oyster harvest time came in, half the team disappeared to "work" with their dads or uncles, etc. I don't know what the excuse is now that the business has dried-up. It is an absolute dead-end career-killer of a job.
  16. 10.2 Team Participation 10.2.1 Eligibility for Participation. To be eligible for participation in the Florida High School State Championship Series in any team sport: (a) The school successfully sponsors a varsity program in the previous school year (i.e. completes a comparable district schedule to the other schools in the district which they would be placed). ( The school files a commitment (team sports) or intent (individual sports) to participate in the Florida High School State Championship Series with FHSAA by the specified deadline. © A varsity team shall engage in a minimum number of interscholastic contests (games, matches or meets) as listed below or the required number of district contests as determined in the district meeting (if applicable), whichever is greater, in the sport. To count as a contest, the school’s team actually shall participate in and complete the contest. Scheduled contests that are canceled or not completed (in accordance with the playing rules of the sport in question) may not be counted. (1) Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball and Water Polo – 10 contests (2) Bowling and Lacrosse – 7 contests (3) Cross Country, Golf, Swimming & Diving, Tennis and Track & Field – 5 contests (4) Flag Football, Football, Competitive Cheerleading, Weightlifting and Wrestling – 4 contests (d) A varsity team must play not less than 60 percent of its regular season contests in the sport against FHSAA member schools. (e) A varsity team must not take more than one trip per school year in the sport beyond the neighboring states of Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.
  17. Every team locally. Teams where I have friends coaching. Teams where I have coached. My old HS team. Teams where I would like to possibly coach. Schools that have spurned my desire to lead their program (this one is usually fun since nearly all of them suck).
  18. Has Northview winning and losing vs. Vancleave MS ;-)
  19. is for real. Beat a very good Pine Forest team last night.
  20. Saw that - must have some heavy things going on at home. That's three coaches in three seasons - not good. Nice little school though.
  21. If you're good enough, you don't need a passing game. Just sayin'. (LOL)
  22. Avant Garde lost to Carrollwood 64-0 last week.
  23. 0-2 (counting the blowout loss in their classic) for the first time in a while and not remotely competitive. Guess the talent pool dried up.
  24. Sometimes there's nothing you can do. One of my teams won 72-0 and we had our youngest and least experienced in the whole second half. Even had the OL running the ball.
