I would have to say Trenton, Andrew Thomas left for the winningest program in the state of Alabama. He went 60-5 played in 3 state title games and won 2 rings in 5 years while in Trenton. Not sure if any of the above listed have a resume that looks like that.

We only have a population of 3400 but I imagine most of them plus whatever Trenton brings. I imagine a lot of outside interest will be there as well. No snakeheads up here yet. The World Famous Dead Lakes are just 20 miles north of us in Wewahitchka, great largemouth and panfish.

FWB is down to 4 finalists for their HC position. Keeping the names quiet but one is from Florida one from Georgia from Tennessee and one from Alabama

Interesting.  What size crowd do you and sharkbait expect for that game?

I do a little freshwater fishing myself...Have the snakeheads made up that far in the Port. St. Joe area yet?

I am looking forward to the trip, It's been 25 years since i have been through Port Saint Joe i am sure it has grown some since then. I have a great uncle that used to own some property there with a fishing camp, He has been dead for 20 years and now it belongs to his oldest son. I know they still go out there from time to time and enjoy the fishing. My grand father lived there in the early 20's for about 5 years working in the logging and sawmill industry that shipped lumber out of the port.

First Academy, to a lesser extent, but like Bishop Moore, has always had the financial resources to build a strong program. It is affiliated with the largest Baptist Church in the Orlando area, and a few years ago had a really strong team that was ousted by Madison County? in the third round of the playoffs.

It seems that like Bishop Moore they have finally decided to put some resources into making a run. Coach Kinnard and his staff are well respected and pretty strong. So, they have the framework to make it happen. They just have a bad classification to contend with as Trinity Christian is not going anywhere. I was a bit surprised by the number of Dp. transfers there as I am unaware of any turmoil at Phillips. But from a distance perspective it is only a few miles east of Dp, so that does not create a commuting hardship for the transfers.

It should be interesting to see how this affects the respective fortunes of the two schools. Pipe Dreams, a Dp. alum and former player, probably has the juicy details.

That's the one I'm most looking forward to also.  I don't know what the Tigersharks will bring to the table this year but Trenton is the top dog so might as well see how we measure up early.  Last years Trenton team was unbelievable, no weak link.  We will see what lessons were learned by PSJ last year.  As far as seating I don't know the capacity but it will be full, we have portable seating that can be moved in. We also have an enthusiastic but very respectful fan base so it is a family friendly crowd.

For me i am looking forward to the rematch with Po-Jo 9/9/16. I know we will have a target on our back because Po-Jo will be looking for some payback !!!!!!! This is what Friday nights are all about, I just hope Trenton can stay healthy and make good showing against another 1A powerhouse program like the Tiger Sharks. I just hope they have enough seats because Trenton will travel well !!!!!!!!!

St. Thomas vs Booker T. Washington game. Despite how the game ended last year 35-3, I think this time around it will be closer and maybe even a win for them F-5 Tornadoes.

Pro's and con's of long standing rivals:  One hand it makes for great tradition, the stories, the history, and sense of community pride.  One the down side, fans and alums tend to put more emphasis on winning the rivalry games and accept being a regional power instead of striving to become a state power.  If your rivals aren't any good, now you have a weak schedule.

Hillsborough and Jefferson are rivals as both play in west Tampa but there is a mural in Hillsborough's library as a monument to their games against Plant.

Most rivalries I mentioned in Hillsborough county involve a trophy.

Plant city and Brandon were certainly rivals back in the day but Bloomingdale was built in 1988.
I am sure Bloomingdale and Newsome are bigger rivalries today.
Just as New some was built out of Durant so they are probably rivalries.

A rivalry can change, as TBT and Hillsborough were rivalries when I coached there.
Likewise chamberlain and hillsborough used to be rivals when billy turner was at chs

Chamberlain and Gather used to play for a trophy but now the northwest corner of Hillsborough county (Alonso, sickles, gather, steinbrener) is known as the quod of hate.

So rivalries change and bad blood can result from players transferring or coaches that don't like each other as well as neighborhood rivalries and district rivalries

College recruiting has changed so much in recent years between hudl and youtube players can get exposure that they couldn't get before.  I think the players transferring now (see how I got this back to the thread) can go somewhere to play for a championship or play in a system that suits their style of play.  Tranferring to a 7A or 8A school that loses in the first or second round is no more exposure than 1A-4A that makes it to the semis or finals.

I just can't see any team in the panhandle that will be better than Pine Forest. They are loaded and hungry to win. Bent on how they finished last season. Embarrassed by the way they played @Trinity Christian Jacksonville. I think they lost by 10 to trinity. They will get another shot this year @home vs. Trinity.

As for Escambia, they should be good at skill positions. And they'll still run the triple option which is hard to prepare for. But they will mix in more passing with the addition of transfer QB Z.Blocker from Catholic. I think the recent hype with Escambia is because they recently won a 7on7 against many local teams. Nice to win but I would remind them that Gulf Breeze beat Niceville last year in 7on7's so... I question whether Escambia will be good enough in the trenches. So Columbia fan if you guys are strong up front, that could be the difference.

I guess Pine Forest is my sleeper pick. I see people picking other panhandle teams ahead of them and I just don't see it. I'll put together my panhandle top 20 with explanations on each team.

Disclaimer; I don't want to discredit anyone else's picks or opinions. I certainly don't know it all. This is just for fun. But I do follow local high school football, probably a little too much.

I think most of these kids will be fine.  Usually, someone gets wind of these kind of things and the kids start looking to have a plan B in place if the rumors are true.

    1. You make your own luck.
    2. Every team loses key players every year.
    3. The fact that you had 23 seniors is remarkable.
I  don't think Broward is trying to beat you up here but just trying to get you to examine your team not as a fan but as an unbiased observer so that you can see what needs to be done to bring home a title.  Do you need a coaching change?  Do you need to be more selective in picking varsity players?  Do you need more money for equipment and facilities?  Are you happy with with just being really good or are you willing to do what it takes to be the best?

If you look at the list a lot of the same teams kept popping up. The Pensacola area has puzzled me at one time that was some of the best HS football anywhere but now not that good. I don't know if it has to do with the military cutbacks in the area or what.  Panama City area teams have been weak for a while. Lincoln was good for a while but when Chiles opened in Tally it really seemed to hurt Lincoln.  There is still quality ball played in Gainesville.  Wakulla is traditionally strong.  1A  is the strongpoint and they are able to compete with some of the larger schools,. I can't really explain the falloff at the bigger schools in recent years but I think having the right coach is key.
