  1. I'll throw out some replacement names

Rick Darlington Deland played for Castle at Lakeland and coached there.

Cameron Duke Edgewater great younger coach would do well there and Lakeland wouldn't miss a beat

Bill Buldini Lakeland DC has been a Head Coach and currently the DC at Lakeland

As Jambun82 originally pointed out, the championship games were much closer this year -- 5 games decided by 7 points or less vs. 2 games decided by 7 points or less last year: two overtime games this year vs. zero last year.  Looking at all playoff games, last year there were 193 games: the median point differential was 25 points; 61 games (32%) were running clock (35+ points).  This year, there were 216 games: the median point differential was 20 points; 47 games (22%) were running clock games.  So this year's playoff games on average were closer with fewer blowouts.  Those are the objective facts, and one of the goals of the "competitive balance" restructuring.  But there are also subjective and/or emotional arguments.  An impartial observer would have to agree that the new system benefited the elite suburban teams, while adversely affecting the average to below-average metro teams.  Whether the upheaval was worth it depends on your perspective.  The same system will be in effect next year, and we will have to see where it goes in 2024.

3 games in 2021 were 7 or less and only 8 games compared to 9.   Cardinal Gibbons 21-19 Madison 13-12, Jesuit 35-29.  Not arguing just pointing out facts.

Badbird, you WILL be excited for all of the State Championship games over the next two weeks. I expect and demand nothing less!

Sorry to disappoint but I will not watch or follow any of them.  I'm pulling for Mainland and Apopka other than that I could care less about the others.

  4. QB had a bad game.  2nd and 1 play was the momentum changer for sure.  He had a guy open in the flats but decided to throw across his body to no one, well no one in white.  State semi's on the road and you turn it over 3-4 times you usually won't win especially playing against Bill Castle, who by the way passed Corky Rogers as the all time winningest coach in Florida last week.

Congrats to Coach EP on a great year but this was expected out of Osceola.  Coach Beek you should have been the county coach of the year.   I hope to see Poinciana back in a district soon and on the rise.

Oooh, oooh, I think I can answer your question.   After exhaustive research, it appears that Lakewood has managed to make it this far by winning three playoff games, beating Clearwater, Tampa Catholic and Calvary Christian.  :P

The last two wins were on the road and in each of the three games, Lakewood scored at least 42 points (scoring 63 in the Regional Finals).

In my view, this is a typical Lakewood team.   They have a handful of exceptional athletes that play the skill positions.  Against many of the area teams, they simply "out-athlete" their opponent.  They rely on big plays to put lots of points on the scoreboard.  However, they lack quality players at every position and they simply don't have the depth they need to beat a top-tier team (like Lakeland, during the regular season, or Miami Central, in the playoffs).

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if Lakewood manages to get a few early scores and keep the game close for a half.   But I would expect to see  Central pull away in the second half.  Lakewood wants a shootout, but they'll run out of ammunition in the third  or fourth quarter.

They will run out of ammo before they get off the bus.  Blowout  Central 45-7

No matter how many classes of football that there are, we are still talking about High School Football. If anything, it should be interesting for the young men (and women) who are the players. I expected a lot more out of you badbird, and I am very disappointed.

I have no connections or interaction to any of the players in the playoffs so I'm looking for a good game to watch.   Sorry to disappoint you dad.

These are all facts and not disputing them.  But "Should Have" is elusive as we only beat Deland by 2 not 20, we should have beat Treasure Coast by double digits but won by 3, we should have beat Treasure Coast at home in 2016 by double digits but lost, we should have beat Steinbrenner at home in 2019 by double digits and lost.  All in the playoffs.

    I wasn't there for those :)

As I had previously mentioned, the 4S region bracket we were in had the Kowboys playing competitive teams right out of the gate and every game has been entertaining.  Haven't missed any of them and don't plan to for any remaining.   We Are OSCEOLA!!

On paper Osceola should have won by 20 in round 1.  Round 2 was a good match up.  I was going to say 4S has been the most competitive but when I look at it it's been blow out city.

Second Round Average margin of victory 25 points with one close game Osceola vs Treasure Coast.  All others were margins of 19 or more.

Regional Finals Average Margin of victory 20 points with one close game Buchholz vs Bartram.  All others were margins of 20 or more.

And here's another example.  Flagler Palm Coast is 3-6 and will finish 3-7 if they lost to DeLand tonight.  They are ranked 15th out of 18 teams in their region.    Yet they are guaranteed a playoff spot because they are champions of a pitiful 3-team district.  So as long as you advocate the status quo with laughable 2- and 3-team districts, you will continue to get "crap" teams in the playoffs.

they had to forfeit 4 games.  I think they won 2 of them.  Not arguing just stating facts

  10. They are definitely one of the top 8 teams in the region and no one wants to play them first round.  This reminds me a little of Booker T several years ago when they missed the playoffs because they had a brutal schedule.  Treasure Coast needs to realize they are not IMG and schedule something a little more reasonable.  I commend them for not being scared but you don't have to be scared to take an ass whooping.
