Not match chatter on this....Hard shoes to fill with HC Wilkinson's 13 year tenure...Would like to hear the thoughts from Cocoa fans on the hire?
More from Brian McCallum and Florida Today:
Knowing how his offenses worked out at his previous schools and as a UCF alum, I'm hyped for it.

Godby has 1 such loss
Glades Central has 2 such losses
Another hint...Had this team from north of Orlando won the state title games they lost by 7 points or more, they would be one of only 5 teams in the past 20 years to win six or more state titles.
This team ranks up there with Atlantic as being one of the hardest luck stories in FL finals history.
Not sure if you meant to change it from 7 or less to 7 or more but from your new post I would say Bolles?

Could the last one be Glades Central or Godby?

Polk County got pounded by 3 major hurricanes in 2004 and both Lakeland and Lake Gibson made the finals that year. Not to minimize what happened this year, but I don't think it had a major impact on 1A-4A this season.
This decline in competition has been coming on for the past 15 years. Look at the data below. For many years, it was rare to see the same team coming back to the title game three years in a row...not anymore. Why? ...see the end of my last post
1973-2002 Teams Appearing in Title Games 3 Years or More in a Row
Glades Central (3A)
Suwanee (3A)
Union County (3A)
NFC (1A)
University Christian (1A)
Glades Day (1A)
2003-Present (FL went to 7 classes in 2003) - Teams Appearing in Title Games 3 Years or More in a Row
Apopka (8A)
St Thomas Aquinas-did it twice (5A and 7A)
Armwood-did it twice (4A and 6A)
Miami Central (6A)
American Heritage/Plantation (5A) - not 3 years in a row, but did do 4 appearances in 5 years
Lakeland (5A)
ST Thomas Aquinas (5A)
Bolles(4A)
Booker T Washington (4A)
Pahokee (2B)
Trinity Christian (2A)
Prior to 2003, I don't believe there had a eever been a class title game with the same teams three years in a row. Since 2003...
Title Games for 3 Years or More in a Row
Armwood vs Central in 6A
Lakeland vs St Thomas in 5A
Bolles vs Booker T in 4A
Why do people love March madness? ...partly because of the allure of the "Cinderella story" and the upsets that occur. Things are becoming more and more predictable in some of the classes in our playoffs because of the lack depth of competitive teams. It is more important to "win" than to play in a competitive league.
Cocoa made it to 3 in a row as well back in the old 3A then the new 2A for the following two.

Wow, 2 jobs Coach Wilk could leave for opening up in the same offseason.

Crescent City and Wildwood were supposed to have played each other. Crescent City tried to reschedule but Wildwood acted like the game was never scheduled. Hence why the FHSAA has had to step in and create guidelines because too many teams worked their way out of games or created havoc for rescheduling after Irma had passed.
So set guidelines to stop teams from doing that kind of stuff; why change the playoff structure?

They were at least on par with the likes of Williston and Wildwood.
Just looked up Crescent, 1/7 of their wins was against a team with a winning record; their 2 losses were against their best opponents and they lost by 20 and 36. Unless Williston and Wildwood's schedules look the same, I can't see how they have an argument.

Crescent in 1A was one team that should have been in at 7-2. Hawthorne was another one. Just a couple of examples.
Were they better than other teams in their region that made the playoffs?

Not necessarily teams that were state title deserving, but they deserved a spot in the playoffs. I have something I am putting together on this to show who else would have been in.
Deserved it over other teams?

It wasn't just one team. I used Booker T. Washington as a good example because everyone talked about them missing. There were other deserving teams that missed out that should have been in the playoffs. By adding two more teams, this fixes things and puts the entire playoff schedule on the same page. By doing this, this will make sure we never return to a two-weekend format for state championships at any venue.
So what teams, other than BTW that had legit state title contention on their plate, missed the playoffs?

I like it because there is NO reason for 1-4a to have a bye week
Plus this gives top 2 seeds a bye which will put a 3 vs 6 seed instead of a 1 vs 4 which frankly the gap between 3 and 6 isn't as wide as gap between 1 and 4
Wont change anything. We are still getting 1 vs huge gap. Just changing the week doesnt change the skill gaps.
-
So 1 team didnt play to the new rules and got burned so they change the entire system? Ok...

Wow, with Counties with double digit appearances, Brevard leads with the highest % of state titles with 70%.

Cocoa longest travel was hour and 20 minutes to Matanzas
Overall all travel would be no more than 2 hours regardless and that may be 1 game a year for a few teams if it was correct
There were a few that had a long travel or 2 but it was either that or a 9 or 10 team district which i feel they would prefer the former so they aren't locked in to having entire schedule in district games lol
3 1hr+ one way trip games, 2-3hr round trips. A smaller district for a little more travel would probably be better received, just stating that fans would hate it vehemently.
