From the panhandle it seems very similar to last year. From district 1, it will probably be Tate. Escambia and Pine Forest are up and down, but Escambia is starting to come along. From district 2 it will be either Gulf Breeze or Navarre. Gulf Breeze should be undefeated but got hosed by the officials at the end of the PIne Forest game and lost on last play. Navarre is consistent, but doesn't have the point spread like in previous seasons (closer games). From district 3 it will be either Crestview or Niceville. Crestview had a big win against West Fl Tech. Niceville had a big shootout last week with Fort Walton Beach, and either FWB is better or Niceville isn't the 'traditional' Niceville. The next 3 weeks will shake itself out.

I would love to see that 98 DeLand game as well. As I remember correctly there was a controversial non PI call at the end. But, it was a heck of a game.

Ok thanks for your input. The refs were not budging saying it was a new rule. They kept saying it's the new PSK rule. It was a huge fiasco with the refs, but they stuck to their call.

I have a question. What is the interpretation on the PSK rule as it applies to illegal substitution? The other night there was a fourth and 3 situation in which the offense decided to punt. The receiving team (punt return) had 12 men on the field. The back judge waited until the ball was snapped (to allow the extra player to run off, which didn't happen) and immediately threw a flag but did not blow the play dead. The punt was a touchback, and referees said it would be marked at the 10 yard line (10 yard penalty), change of possession, citing the new PSK rule. Does it apply to illegal substitution? If not, it should have been a first and 10 for the punt team, correct? I'm completely confused. If the rule is in fact the way as I have described it, what's to stop a receiving team from running 30 kids on to the field to block the punt or set up a return, knowing that it would only be a 10 yard penalty? Thanks in advance for any insight.

The superintendents in Santa Rosa (definitely) and Okaloosa (I think Okaloosa) counties have said no to any school related activities. Cancelled: Gulf Breeze @ Tate Navarre vs Crestview Pensacola Catholic @ Choctaw Pace vs Pine Forest More are cancelled as well, I just can't recall which ones. Escambia county schools not playing those counties are still on.

I definitely agree with Smiley, McGhee, and Bivins. Smiley is a good RB from Catholic who was injured early against Gulf Breeze and missed most of the season. If you're talking about the WR from Washington (McGhee), he seemed to score multiple TD's for a team who wasn't very good. Bivins will make the change from QB to RB at Pace. He's a big, strong runner. Two others I would include would be Wright from Navarre. He played WR for them last year and I believe he scored 3 TD's in the spring game. The other is Walter Yates from Gulf Breeze. Big safety who had 8 int's for Gulf Breeze. He's pretty physical at the line of scrimmage as well.

Escambia has hired Mike Bennett to be the head coach. He was the head coach at Pensacola for 18 years and the athletic director for the last 2 years.
