  1. Below are arguably the top 7 8A teams from each metro area and their composite records from the past 3 seasons. Which area is stronger overall in terms of depth? *=3 straight winning seasons South Florida 8A *Atlantic 33-7-1 *Columbus 30-9 Coral Gables 25-9 *Deerfield Beach 28-8 Miramar 22-8 *Southridge 25-11 South Dade 24-9-1 Orlando Area 8A *Apopka 30-7 Boone 21-14 *Dr Phillips 34-9 *Osceola 33-4 *Seminole 28-8 *Wekiva 25-10 Winter Park 25-11
  2. It is getting quite confusing. There are schools like Mater Academy and Doral Academy in Miami-Dade, which sound like private schools, but are actually part of the public school system.
  3. If you put all of the 1A-4A public schools in the Panhandle together in one class, it would probably be quite competitive. I believe a lot of those schools play each other during the regular season anyway, and the smaller schools sometimes have the upper hand.
  4. As you are probably aware, there are only a handful of public teams in 3A and 2A. 3A Baldwin-R1 Florida High-R1 Fort White-R1 Newberry-R1 Taylor County-R1 Taylor(Pierson)-R2 Marathon - R4 2A FAMU-R1 Moore Haven-R4
  5. Below is a breakdown of 3-season, composite records of Palm Beach County teams. Should help to give some perspective on depth of team talent in the county. *Teams with 3 straight winning seasons Public Schools with Winning Records: *Atlantic 33-7-1 Boca Raton 19-13 *Dwyer 32-7 Forest Hill 16-13 *Glades Central 22-10 *Pahokee 31-8-1 Park Vista 25-10 Seminole Ridge 16-15 Suncoast 16-15 Wellington 18-15 Other public schools: Boynton Beach 14-17 JI Leonard 7-25 Jupiter 2-28 Lake Worth 8-21 Olympic Heights 13-16 Palm Beach Central 15-18 Palm Beach Gardens 15-17 Palm Beach Lakes 14-20 Royal Palm Beach 10-23 Santaluces 5-25 Spanish River 13-18 West Boca Raton 11-18 Private Schools: American Heritage Delray(3A) 17-15 Benjamin(3A) 16-15 Cardinal Newman(3A) 11-19 Glades Day(2A) 13-16 St John Paul II(3A) 12-16 King’s Academy(3A) 22-8 *Oxbridge Academy(3A) 29-7 St Andrew’s(3A) 14-15
  6. Deerfield Beach has 31 wins over the past 3 seasons. The next most winning public school program in Broward during that same time has 22. So, no public school in Broward even comes close to them. Deerfield deserves credit.
  7. Palm Beach/Broward/Miami-Dade 3-Season Comparison (using data from past 3 seasons) Public schools with 3 straight winning seasons: Palm Beach 4/22 teams (Atlantic, Dwyer, Glades Central, Pahokee) Broward 1/29 teams (Deerfield Beach) Miami-Dade 6/36 teams (Carol City, Central, Doral, Mater, Reagan, Southridge) Public schools with 20 or more wins: Palm Beach 5/22 teams Broward 7/29 teams Miami-Dade 11/36 teams Private schools with 20 or more wins: Palm Beach 2/8 teams Broward 9/10 teams Miami-Dade 3/7 teams Private Schools Combined Records: Palm Beach 134-101 (57% winning percentage) Broward 255-92 (74% winning percentage) Miami-Dade 151-97-1 (61% winning percentage)
  8. So sorry, you are absolutely right 941. I had Venice down for more losses. Interesting that 5 of the 6 schools that meet this criteria are from central FL.
  9. Back in the 1970's and 1980's, Panhandle teams played in the largest classes and had the upper hand at the state final series. The Panhandle cities did not grow much, but south Florida sure did, and 20 years later, those same Panhandle teams were playing in lower classes and south Florida teams had risen to prominence in the upper classes. Growth in Miami-Dade and Broward has slowed while central Florida has exploded. There are already more Orlando-area schools in 7A/8A than Miami-Dade schools(35 Orlando vs 31 Miami-Dade). New schools like Braden River, Viera and Wekiva have come on line since 2005 and are already solid programs. ....another area of growth over the past 20 years...south of Jacksonville... Bartram Trail, Fleming Island and Ponte Vedra all came on line between 2000-2008 and have had good success. It does not seem the newer south Florida schools have been able to achieve high-level, sustainable success to the same extent as their northern counterparts. It is predicted that Orlando will be an area of continued growth and job opportunity...one of the fastest in the country. What will things look like in 10 years? 20 years? Will there be a shift in power with central Florida teams taking home a greater share of the hardware?
  10. Polk County football had a great small-town feel to it in the past. Lakeland was undefeated state champs in 2004 and 2006 and played at Kathleen those years. Kathleen had some good teams back then with small but very fast, stout defenses. Lakeland won both of those games by 3 points or less. The crowds were so big people were lined up outside the fences basically just listening to the game. I think all of Polk County was there
  11. 3-season records.... American Heritage Plantation 37-2 Armwood 38-4 Osceola 33-4 Vero Beach 32-3 They have the highest winning percentage of any public school, so I guess they are the bestwhere is FloTech? Clearwater Central Catholic 32-4 I missed them, so that is 5 teams. Thanks MuckCityChamp! Madison County, Cocoa and St Augustine all just missed...each with 30+ wins and 5 losses
  12. 3-season records.... American Heritage Plantation 37-2 Armwood 38-4 Osceola 33-4 There is one more! Sorry, I forgot one.
  13. There are only 4 teams I am aware of who have won 30 or more games and lost less than 5 games in the past 3 seasons. Who are they?
  14. Bocefous got it. ...arguably the 3 most consistent SFL teams over the past three years...Atlantic, Carol City, and Dywer. Look at Carol City's 3-season records against the following teams. Central 2-2, Dillard 3-0, Daytona Beach Mainland 2-0, Lakeland 2-0, Norland 2-1, Northwestern 2-3, Southridge 3-0 Northwestern missed out in 2015 and Central in 2016.
  15. Yes...I had forgotten he lit up Bartram Trail for 4 touchdowns in the first half.
  16. There are 88 public schools in Miami-Dade/Broward/Palm Beach Counties who play football in the FHSAA. Only 3 of them have done the following over the past three seasons: Had 3 winning seasons Won a total of 28 or more games over the past 3 seasons Won at least one playoff game each of the past 3 seasons Which 3 schools? Pick your 3 and let’s see who can guess the most.
  17. Was watching film of DJ Uiagalelei of St John Bosco. Last year, Northwestern got beat by one one of those taller, West Coast, pro-style passers in Arizona. The only other game in the recent past I can think of where a FL team faced a qb like that was when Aquinas beat De La Salle in 2011. That kid went on to qb at Wisconsin. Can anyone think of any other games where one of our FL teams faced a an elite-level, pro-style qb? The three games below all involved dual-threat qb's. The first two were highly-rated, but of shorter stature I believe and not like a Uiagalelei. STA vs SJ Bosco (Re-Al Mitchell) Central vs Bishop Gorman (Dorian Thompson-Robinson) Booker T vs Bishop Gorman ( Randall Cunningham II)
  18. Aaron Murray of Tampa Plant High (Class of 2009) Parade Magazine All-America....U.S. Army All-American...SuperPrep All-America and All-Dixie teams.... PrepStarTop 100 Dream Team....MVP at EA Sports Elite 11 Camp... No. 13 ESPNU 150 list.......suffered a broken fibula early in the 2008 season, but finished with 1,927 yards passing with 33 touchdowns and four interceptions and rushed for 257 yards and two touchdowns...returned to record 344 yards passing and three touchdowns while leading his team to the 2008 Class AAAA state championship...passed for 4,013 yards and 51 touchdowns with seven interceptions as a junior while also rushing for 932 yards and 12 touchdowns...Mr. Football Award winner as a junior and First Team All-State...set a Hillsborough County record for most passing touchdowns in a career (84) After a record-setting career at the University of Georgia, he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 5th round of the 2014 NFL draft. He was signed by several NFL teams but never saw playing time. He presently works as a sports commentator.
  19. Jack Allison of Palmetto High School(Class of 2016) in Manatee County. Consensus four-star prospect by ESPN, 247Sports Rivals and Scout...Ranked No. 68 in ESPN300 rankings…Under Armour All-America Game selection…Was selected to semifinals of Elite11 quarterback competition in Los Angeles, Calif.…Threw for over 1,400 yards and had 11 touchdown passes senior year, completing 62.1 percent of passes…Threw just five interceptions during his senior campaign. He transferred from the U of Miami to West Virginia University, where he is battling for a backup qb spot this season.
  20. Robert Marve, Class of 2007 Florida's Mr. Football and member of Parade All-America team as senior at Plant High School in Tampa after breaking three state season records ... topped 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow's marks for passing yards (4,380) and touchdowns (48) and bettered 31-year-old standard for completions (280) ... completed 280 of 421 passes (66.5 percent) with merely 13 interceptions ... led team to Class 4A state championship by completing 30 of 46 passes for 305 yards and three touchdowns in title game ... completed 103 of 187 passes (55 percent) for 1,813 yards and 14 touchdowns as junior ... rushed for 393 yards and three touchdowns ... passed for 903 yards and seven touchdowns his sophomore season. Started at U of Miami in 2008, then transferred to Purdue, where he played for 3 seasons. Sustained several serious knee injuries during his college career. Went undrafted in the NFL draft and played a handful of games in the Canadian Football League before retiring from football. Last I heard he lives in Tampa.
  21. Stephen Garcia graduated from Jefferson High School in Tampa in December 2006... completed 506-of-821 passes for 8,081 yards and 83 touchdowns while leading his team to the playoffs each season, including a spot in the championship game as a sophomore... also rushed 263 times for 1,345 yards and 17 scores... graduated as the all-time county leader in passing yards, completions and touchdowns and third in the state for career passing yards and sixth in TD passes... earned all-state honors as a senior after passing for over 2,500 yards and 29 touchdowns and leading his team to a 9-3 record... as a junior, he passed for 2,800 yards and 28 TDs and rushed for an additional 700 yards and eight scores... as a sophomore, threw for just under 2,800 yards with 27 TDs... ... was a four-star prospect by both Rivals.com and Scout.com... was regarded as the third-best quarterback at the Elite 11 camp in the summer prior to his senior season. At U of South Carolina, he finished as one of the all-time leaders in passing yards, completions, attempts and passing touchdowns, and was just the third quarterback in Gamecock history with 6,000 career passing yards. After a series of suspensions, he was eventually dismissed from the team. Last I heard, he was working as a private qb coach.
  22. Massillon Ohio is not a "small town" but is has kinduva small town feel about it. Their rivalry game with McKinley is incredible. http://www.maxpreps.com/news/2VOhfAU8MkqSpYNsktU7YA/5d2f--ohio-rivalry-on-another-level.htm I thought it was just hype until I had a chance to visit about 5 years ago and was blown away. The video below will give you a feel for the atmosphere. I think they had 19000 fans in attendance. That huge building in the background is their indoor practice field. Texas is not the only state doing it big. https://massillontigers.com/facilities_david_training_center.html
  23. We have made our way around the state and now it is time to talk about Tampa-area qb's. IMG Academy has had several qb's make the ESPN 150 list in recent years. But they are not the only school in that neck of the woods to produce highly-rated qb's. Since 2006, at least 4 qb's who played for Hillsborough/Pinellas/Manatee County schools(not including IMG) made the list. Who are they and for what schools did they play?
  24. They are blessed. As isolated as they are geographically, I could see Immokalee as a town struggling financially.
