The Chiefs made back-to-back 4A title game appearances in the late 70's...won one game, lost the other.  Those were their only two playoff appearances.  In the early 70's, only one Miami-Dade team made it to the 4A playoffs.  In the late 70's, two teams did.  There was a lot of parity back then.  One didn't see teams making the playoffs year after year like today.  When a team made the playoffs, it was truly an accomplishment.

    Thanks for sharing that.
FYI-There were some neutral games played in Gainesville in the 60's.  The 1975 4A title game was played at a neutral site in central FL, just like the game you describe.

Answer #5 is l. Trinity Catholic
Robert Love of Pahokee was 23/37 and set an individual state final record with 502 passing yards against Ocala Trinity Catholic in the 2005 2B title game, but Trinity pulled out a 37-30 win despite giving up nearly 4 times as many yards on offense.  Love threw 4 TD passes of 50 yards or longer, including 3 in a furious third quarter comeback that started with Pahokee down 30-7.  Martavious Odoms caught 9 passes for 188 yards and Tamarcus Porter caught 8 passes for 169 yards.  Only a handful of receivers in history have ever had more than 150 receiving yards in a title game.   Robert Love went to Florida A&M, but ran into problems.
Douglas Cook of University School set a state final record with 43 completions in 61 attempts for 430 passing yards(second highest yardage in state final history behind Love) against Ocala Trinity Catholic in the 2010 2B final, but Trinity pulled out a 56-55 3OT win.  Nick Kutscher set a state final record with 14 receptions for 134 yards and Daniel Braverman had 10 receptions for 94 yards.  University only gained 38 yards on the ground in 30 attempts.  Douglas went on to play at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.

    Answer #1 is h. Frostproof
At the 1999 2A final in Gainesville, unranked Frostproof, a team that was 6-4 during the regular season, shocked Jacksonville Trinity Christian in a 6-0 win.  Trinity had scored 689 points during the year and, at that time, was the highest-scoring team in Florida high school football history.
For the game's only score, Frostproof hit a 59-yard crossing pattern for a TD 5 minutes into the game.  Take away that and Frostproof had minus-2 yards of offense.  Frostproof set title-game records with negative-7 yards rushing and one first down, and tied a mark with eight punts.  Frostproof's C.J. Hudson, one of Florida's all-time leading rushers with over 7000 yards, was held to 16 yards on 14 carries.
On defense, Frostproof had 13 stops for negative yardage and held Trinity to an average of 3.3 yards per play.  Trinity didn't help themselves, fumbling 7 times, which tied a title game record.
Frostproof was coached by Bill Pierstoff and Trinity was coached by Verlon Dorminey.  That game was Frostproof's last appearance in a title game.  Dorminey would have to wait a few more years to win the first of many state titles.

The 2013 BTW offense was not the most intimidating from a size perspective.  And they did not necessarily have any marquis names at the time.  They were led by 4-star dual threat qb Treon Harris, son of coaching legend Ice Harris.  Treon was only 5'11.  And his wide receivers were undersized by today's standards.  But what they lacked in size, they made up for in speed and elusiveness.  This offense was flat out difficult to stop and had so many weapons that could beat you.  Future Canes star Mark Walton was an underclassman on this team.  BTW ended the season 14-0 and ranked as one of the top hs team in the country.  Below are some highlights of their game against Norcross, GA.

And my selection for best offense of the 2010's...the 2013 Booker T Washington squad.
Why the 2013 Booker T Washington squad?
Beat nationally ranked, defending 6A Georgia state champion Norcross 55-0 in Georgia.  Norcross won the title in 2013, as well. Gave nationally ranked and 6A state champion Miami Central its only loss of the season, scoring 28 points against the Rockets. Beat Carol City 45-0.  No, this was not one of CC's great teams, but anyone who puts up 45 points on a CC defense is impressive. Traveled to Nevada and beat national powerhouse Bishop Gorman, scoring 28 points. Scored 40 or more points in each of its playoff games. Blew out defending 3A state champion University School at U School's home field in the playoffs, scoring 45 points. Went up 35-0 at the half versus Cocoa in the state semi and cruised to a 49-10 win. In the state final, BTW went up 34-6 over Bolles about 1 minute into the second half and took their foot off the gas, ending up with 40 points.

Kinnan and Castle have been known as film and scheme geeks. Manatee has had a few teams that seemed prone to winning shootouts, whereas Lakeland's best teams have been strong on defense. But both coaches put in a ton of time preparing, and it shows.

Lakeland and Manatee are the only teams that I called out more than once.  That speaks volumes(at least in my mind) for the quality of their programs over the years.
Keep in mind that many of the powerhouse teams of today only came on line within the past 20 years.  Lakeland and Manatee have been contenders for the past 4 decades.  Can you say "longevity!"
