I saw Willie Williams up close when I was a sophomore, we played Carol City in the playoffs. We scored 7 points, every other team they played combined to score 3 that playoffs lol. That defense was crazy. Him, Kenny Phillips, Ricky Jean Francois, Vernon Wilder.
Besides Willie, Deionte Thompson (the one from Texas thats at Alabama now, not the Glades Central one)

OldSchoolLion reacted to XDC in Atlantic has some things to tighten up
That they do. Very sloppy performance, IMO. Multiple false start penalties. A few untimely encroachments that extended drives. And they dropped at least two interceptions that could have easily went the distance.
That said, they played one of the better teams in South Florida. It looks like a well-respected PBC offensive mind has his hands all over this offense. What he is trying to do suits their QB, and I think they will get a lot better as the year rolls on. When clicking, it is a tough offense to prepare for, as it utilizes multiple formations and blends the Spread and Wing-T offenses quite effectively.
On defense, they are playing with more three down than I am used to seeing with an Atlantic defense. They struggled with the big play, and on a few drives, they had trouble fitting gap-scheme runs.
All in all, I'd say reserve judgement on this team. I will have a better idea where they fall in PBC after I see Dwyer/PBC lock horns this evening.

Jammi(Jay-Me) German it is!  3 years after the legendary Deion Sanders graduated from North Fort Myers High, another speedster appeared on the scene in Fort Myers.  The beginning of this video is ironic, because Jammi got in trouble with the law while at the U.  Unfortunately for Jammi and the Green Wave, they ran into St Thomas Aquinas in the 1991 and 1992 4A state semis, and got shut out each time.
For the younger folks on the board, the beat you here in the background starting at 1:50 is original hip hop from nearly 40 years ago.  Check out "The Sugar Hill Gang - Rapper's Delight (Original Extended Full Version) (1979 HQ)" on youtube.  Please note, this is how you dance, youngerns   Also, please note the amazing Fred Sandford heart attack endzone dance at about 5:30.

I really like your comment.  In the days before the internet, people may not have anything better to do a Friday night than go watch the local hs team, regardless of how good they were.  Now we have so many choices.  Once fans lose interest today, I can see it being very difficult to get them back.

Lee, Columbia and Fletcher should all be playoff teams in 7a region 1

The biggest problem Columbia has had the last 2 seasons is in the secondary which is must more experienced

In 2016 Columbia had to replace all 4 starters in the secondary and had to do it again in 2017

This year Columbia returns all 4 starters in the secondary as well as a transfer from Winter Park

This Columbia defense will be far improved

Many new schools opened in Lee County since Estero was a solid program.  Their incredible run to the final in '98   was a series of good fortunes.  Fort Myers had beaten them by10 in the regular season but lost to a nice Lely team forcing a three way tiebreaker.  I mentioned to our defensive coach it would be in our best interest to be the runner-up.  Oh how he didn't like that.  So FM wins the shootout and stays home. Beats Palm Beach Gardens 41-0.  Then you know how the story goes, lost to STA 24-10. Meanwhile, Estero goes on the road and beats South Fork by 1, South Plantation by  1, Charlotte by 24, then Lakeland by 1 with a second chance on a field goal attempt due to a penalty.  Lakeland had taken STA out prior but the Naughts suffered numerous injuries.   Enjoy your posts Old School Lion.

And this reinforces my belief that in the long term a re-classification based on historical strength of teams will be a move in the right direction. These teams need to get their feet under them before they have to start playing with against more established programs. It takes time to institute not just a culture on the team level, but also at a community level.
If you have the chance to show some promise early on (even if it is against also-rans) I think that encourages the community to stay with the team from the infancy of the team.

Please let me explain what I meant.  Assuming Vero plays at least one tough non-district game each year, it would be nice to develop a rivalry with a team like Viera OR Dwyer OR Glades Central and play that team each year to establish the rivalry.  That would be great for the fans.  Wasn't proposing to play all of them in one year
I am not a believer that one has to play a brutal schedule and kill one's self to be ready for the playoffs, especially with a well-established program led by a good coaching staff.  Armwood, Plant, and Lakeland have not always played the toughest of regular season schedules and they are some of the most successful playoff teams we have seen in the modern era.

OldSchoolLion reacted to DisabledAccount in Rough Injury for Fort White
I was scrolling through my news feed and saw this. That is definitely a tough blow for Fort White. You never want to see this happen to anyone and from what i heard he a talented player and I feel bad for him especially being a senior and now not even getting a chance to play

I've seen seniors before get injured early in senior year and have to stand on the sideline and spend their final year of football just as a sideline spectator

I hope this kid finds a college that will let him not only continue his playing career but get a good education

@FORTWHITEFAN76 do you by any chance know what happened?

And on a side note since he a 2 way starter how does he work practice?  Do they like alternate drives on one position and switch or does he primarily practice at just one position?
