Oh, I know it's ugly. Very few Tampa teams have ever won in the muck; however, my point was more- TC"s best teams historically were 2007-2008-2009. Those 3 years I would have liked to see them play a muck area team. Not saying they would have won, but it would have been highly competitive.

Overall, Tampa Catholic is 1-6 versus teams from the Muck in the playoffs.  Tampa Catholic has made 5 playoff trips to the Muck, and won once.  Here are the overall playoff results versus teams from the Muck.  Sorry it is not a prettier picture, Jessica.
In 1971, after Glades Central beat Chaminade 31-0 in the Muck, they took out Tampa Catholic 35-0 in the Muck.  Glades eventually won the state title that year.
In 1996, Pahokee beat Tampa Catholic 25-22 in the the Muck.
Clewiston beat Catholic in the Muck in 2001 and 2005, and Catholic won there in 2007.  Catholic lost to Clewiston at home in the playoffs in 1997 and 2006.

Cocoa is 2/3 on this. Never been in the same classification as Pahokee to see them in the playoffs.

Cocoa gave up 59 points in its last 5 title games.  Below are the offensive yards given up in those contests.
    2008 152 yards  vs Godby
2009  331 yards  vs Glades Central
2010 270 yards  vs Glades Central
    2016 234 yards  vs Bolles
    2017 153 yards  vs Raines
In the 25 playoff games they played during those years, they held opponents to one TD or less 9 times.

It is Chuck Wood, who was head coach at Rockledge from 1986 to 2004.  During his tenure, his teams went 155-51, and won 25 playoff games.  In 2001, his team won the 3A title in Tallahassee, beating St Augustine 38-6.  Rockledge held them to only 115 yards of total offense.  That year, Rockledge beat 3-time defending state champion Glades Central in the regional finals in the Muck and then traveled to beat a very tough Lake Wales team in the state semis.  The following year in Tallahassee, Rockledge repeated as 3A state champions, beating Crestview 22-0.  They held them to only 85 yards of total offense.
Ironically, Glades Central beat Rockledge in the 1997 state semis and Lake Wales beat Rockledge in the 1994 state semis.  Both Glades Central and Lake Wales were regular foes of Rockledge in the playoffs during Wood's tenure.
Rockledge seemed to lose its mojo after Wood stepped down, and just won their first playoff game in 10 years this past season.  Hopefully Rockledge is on its way back to greatness.

    Soul Bowl #2
In 1998, #1 ranked Northwestern met Jackson in the state semis in a game known as Soul Bowl 2.  Over 35,000 attended.  Down 14-2 with 2.5 minutes left, NW hit a bomb to bring the score to 14-9. NW did not recover the onside kick and with no timeouts left, the game was virtually over. After three plays, Jackson had the ball on their 24 yard line with 10 seconds left.  Jackson's coach called for his punter to turn tail and dash for his own end zone to give NW a safety.  Instead of inserting his punter, who had already fumbled once in the end zone, he called on the sure hands of his back-up quarterback. Junior Ronnie Jones lined up ten yards behind center and waited for the ball to fly into his hands.  He didn't wait long enough. Jones, who was in for his first play of the game, began to run toward the end zone even before the ball reached his hands. The ball fell to the ground, where it was swarmed by players from both teams. When the pile was unknotted, Northwestern owned the ball on the ten-yard line -- with six seconds left to play.  Now the game rested on one final play. Northwestern's offense lined up in a tight formation. Quarterback Sheffield took the snap, stepped back two feet, planted his cleats in the turf, and lobbed a blimp toward the south corner of the end zone. Northwestern receiver Antonio Bryant raced to meet the ball while jockeying for position with two Jackson cornerbacks. Bryant, taller than both his foes, was also savvy enough to stop suddenly and position himself in front of them. The ball landed in his outstretched hands as he fell to the ground.  Bulls 15-14. NW went on to win the state title.

Cardinal Gibbons has impressive talent, but like I have said about Chaminade, am hesitant to call them a top 100 team until they can convincingly beat top-flight competition.  Over the past couple of years, their "quality" wins were Chaminade(2016), Deerfield Beach(2016) and Rockledge(2017).  They narrowly won each of those games, ie 7 points of less.  Arguably, none of those teams was close to being national Top 100 teams.  In 2016, 6 of the 9 teams CG beat had losing records.
Their close battles against American Heritage have been very impressive, no doubt.  Not to take away from those wins, but they have played them 4 times over the past couple of seasons, so it has given them a good chance to figure them out.  They may well be deserving of a top 100 spot.  Am just uncertain.  I remember how Chaminade was ranked high at the beginning of last season and loaded with talent and got clobbered by Central.

I believe it, Jessica.  But unless they have gotten much deeper,  I am still not sure how well they would hold up against a much larger school (in classification) that is very physical.   Central absolutely manhandled them in the trenches.

Good morning Gents and any ladies on the board,
The first high school ranking of the year was released yesterday. The state is represented pretty well. A few surprises and head scratchers, but hey...preseason polls are a crapshoot and this poll is computer based. The one that stands out the most to me is, Carol City not making the list even in the top 150. They have one of the top QB's and RB's in the county and maybe state. The defense will be solid too. They are my early favorite for 6A. It will be between them and Central for the district I believe. MNW lost their all-world QB to graduation, so I don't expect much offensive production from them. Defense will be good though. As far as my Rockets. I'm not sold on the QB...At all!!! RB's and WR's will be really good, even with the losses to the transfers. OL will be better, especially with big baby getting into the rotation. If you don't know who he is, just check out what he did a few weeks ago to this one kid at a camp at Cardinal Gibbons...it went viral. Even ESPN played the clip on their Twitter page. So without further delay, here's the rankings and you all can form your own opinions...

Although many years ago, my younger brother also played at Mainland High. We were in the "Big 8" Conference then. (Mainland, Deland, Sanford, Gainsville, Winter Haven, Lakeland, Lakeland Kathleen, ??). They traveled to Kathleen for a game. Mainland's pretty boy running back drew the attention of several Lakeland "honeys."  Words were exchanged between the players/fans before, during, and after the game. Which Kathleen won 44-0. As Mainland loaded up on the bus a large crowd of "homers" gathered. Words were still flying. All the bus windows were raised up ( No A/C back then ). The crowd then started rocking the bus back and forth. The players hit the floor as an object broke one of the windows. According to my brother, not only did they get their ass whipped on the field, they still wanted more of that behind after the game. True story
