  1. While we are updating the last three years, Columbus beat GA 4A champ Benedictine 21-22 season and AGAIN in 22-23
  2. Yeah, tough to get a final list here. I see you have Columbus ranked above both Norland and Homestead, who although they both lost their title games, both beat Columbus. I'd argue, not while Columbus was at their best, but Homestead beat us pretty bad. Hard to square that. I agree that Berkeley should be higher but I really don't know who you should move around to make that happen. FWIW Maxpreps has BP in their top 25 now with Central and Norland mid 30's. Columbus is like 50. I think most teams in the top 15 there could almost all best one another on any given Friday with the exception of Nade.
  3. Nobody gave Berkley a chance? didn't you see @DarterBlue2predict this potential upset? I happened to agree with him. Congrats on the win. Salty? We are state champs. Again. LOL. I stand by it. Norland was not the 11th best team in the country, And after beating AHP at home, Berkley should have been top 30. I granted you it was an upset. But after beating AHP at their place one could hardly say this was one of the greatest in history. But whatever. Fantastic finish given the improbable start.
  4. Would not call this the one of the biggest upsets in HISTORY. While I didn't know anything about Berkeley until this year, I have been saying Norland - while solid, is a bit over hyped. I know they notched some big wins over some big programs this season, but tbh they won against BTW, Central, and Columbus when all three teams had lost their starting QB. And I know beating Central twice was def something not to overlook - but I been hard on Central too ever since they played a great game against BG. Not saying I called this upset, but Norland is in no way the #11 team in the nation. Congrats to Berkeley and great season Norland.
  5. Revenge Match from 2018. Now Back to Back titles. Congrats Explorer Nation! Adelante! #305
  6. Yeah 9 hour bus ride. They will do a walk through today. Long drive home after the game - get home about 2am tomorrow. The 9 hours will be longer if it's without a trophy. Mandarin is no joke.
  7. Good observation. Saw that and spoke with the QB position coach on Monday - luckily he's fine. Charley Horse it seems.
  8. And for that same personal quality, some people are attracted to them, many people mistakenly align "arrogance" with strength, or a sign of leadership ability. But I agree with you: it results in a lack of desire for self improvement and ultimately very limited thinking. Tempered confidence, on the other hand is an asset for any coach, player, or leader. But they are not the same.
  9. I get that, I'm just talking about the fall after BG. Anyway, I may have spoke too soon, Rockets stormed back with 21 unanswered points.
  10. From nearly beating the #1 team in the nation at their place on week 0, we now see them getting beaten for probably the 2nd time this season by Norland. I mean dogged right now. And Norland is good, but not THAT good. I know they QB went down in that 1st loss to the Vikings, but this is crazy for a school that had like 30+ transfers and hopes for a natty a couple months ago. @MC Rockets you got the story? 3rd quarter, Norland is up 3 scores on the Rockets.
  11. That's crazy - for playoffs in particular. Two years ago Columbus drove up to Savannah to play Benedictine and then the next week up to Jacksonville to face Bartram Trail - 1,400 miles total over two consecutive weekends, It was brutal. Coach Dunn said he is never doing that again. But at least these weren't even district games much less playoffs. Seems like they should set up a neutral site roughly half way for playoffs. To much on the kids.
  12. This. Unfortunately, here is the world of perverse incentives: if one has a choice the "right" thing, or the "wrong" thing; the thing that helps the kids, or the things that don't; the things that lift up society, or the things that bring it down, the choice is always predictable in each of these scenarios: we invariably choose the one that is profitable. Almost every social ill can be boiled down to this.
  13. No young stud - but three different QBs will be under center against Norland. Three different looks too. Wish us luck! We will need it.
  14. Yes, this is "club" ball or the NIBC (National Interscholastic Basketball Conference) which IMG plays in an completes for a separate national title. All the teams invited to this tournament are top notch basketball factories in the NIBC with high major players from around the nation - all IMG-level programs basically - just for hoops. And Montverde Academy in Florida is usually the king of them all. The tournament I linked you to basically features NIBC teams and elite high school "club" teams, but they can't play under the school name due to FHSAA regs. So it is not "Christopher Columbus High School" that played, but a club team called "Explorers". MaxPreps actually has two separate rankings listed for basketball: High school and NIBC And your point about football season is well taken. But in reality, there is no one on our football team, or many other teams who will make tryouts for basketball this year or last - the team is insanely good and still quite young. I'll go out on a limb at say this might be the best high school squad in the country this year and possibly one of most talented kids in one high school in a while. That's a big statement, I know. Anyhow, sorry to take the topic out of football season. But we have Norland coming up this week and I am trying to stay in a good mood. We will be without our QB for a good three weeks. Wish us luck!
  15. While my Explorers football may have stumbled a couple weeks back, our Explorer basketball crew is on a tear as favorites to win a national title. Led by the Boozer brothers (5* and high 4*), they now add Jase Richardson (4*) and his "little" brother Jaxon 3* from BG who isn't even in the starting lineup. Two sets of brothers with pro fathers. Crazy. The rest of the squad are 3* players - starting lineup brings 4 returning starters from last year's back to back state champions. Tonight they are playing powerhouse Monteverde Academy, the #1 team year in and year out in Florida and nationally. This years squad is possibly their best ever led by #1 player in his class Cooper Flagg. Watching Cam Boozer and Flagg battle it out will be epic. on ESPN2 now: https://thetvapp.to/tv/espn2-live-stream/
  16. I don't disagree with @DarterBlue2 on that. Defense looked suspect and offensive line got manhandled. Found out after the game that Mendoza had broken a finger on his throwing hand early in the game and explains his 4 INT performance. We are definitely below BTW and several others without him at the helm. Coaches hoping to rest him until playoffs. So we will see a different look from the Explorers offensively for the next few games. Disappointing with both the GMAC game (Central?) and Norland coming up. Not expecting wins for either of those games now.
  17. You may be, or may not be more qualified than anyone on this board, but either way you really need to get over yourself. Coaches make mistakes (ask Cristobal) and referees, being HUMAN, do as well. If you are unwilling to concede that, you are absolutely delusional. And no one needs your stamp of crotchety approval.
  18. And he got banged up quite a bit. Eventually injured on our last series and left the game. We don't really have a viable backup either. Coach Dunn really need to protect him better. Let's hope everyone is healthy for next week and Mendoza in particular can shake off this poor performance.
  19. gotta love my young broadcaster though. Trying to rationalize that we only need 2 TDs with successful 2-pt conversions. In 80 seconds. LOL
  20. Agreed. This is the worst game I have seen him play in two seasons. No excuses though - the Homestead front has been giving him pressure all game.
  21. Onside fails. Homestead came to play and make a statement. They did. Homestead could have kneeled it out but ended up scoring on a run play next posession. No excuses there. Coaches need to see the boys finish. Explorers fall to 6-1. Central next week. We got a lot of coaching up to do to get ready for that. 1:30 left Homestead 32, Columbus 16
  22. 1:43 left, and too little too late with Mendoza to TE Blackburn. Columbus trails by 10 Columbus goes for 2, no good Onside kick coming up
  23. Refs look like they trying to give us a miracle on this drive LOL
