This post reminds me that high school sports are the best drug, crime and drop-out prevention program in existence.  And football is the best example of this.

    Jambun,
So, what is your suggestion?   How should a coach like Beek address what he perceives to be obvious officiating errors?  Who should he contact?  It sounds like when he brings the matter to the officiating organization, they blow him off (and basically tell him his team isn't good enough to deserve good officials or even a full squad).   But when he puts the plays out there for public consumption, in what appears to be a fairly respectful way, he's being told by the one official on the board that this is "counterproductive."
So, I'm asking you, how would you suggest a disgruntled coach deal with this situation -- especially one that appears to repeat itself game after game?

Yes or no: should a high school team's history/pedigree have any affect on its current rating?

Working the halls is what we do every day. From players to coaches even admin helps. Our situation may be different than others. I am not in their halls so I cant attest to what goes on. We commonly hear, football sucks so we arent going to play! I only play basketball or another sport! I work lunch duty as a volunteer to make myself present and available to all the student body. My players are most likely the best help recruiting the halls. This year we are experiencing a change. We still have kids changing their mind and wanting to jump on the band wagon. But, we finally have a band wagon worth jumping on. We never quit coaching a player. Doesnt matter how skilled they are, or their lack of skill. We are teaching football 101 every day as most of our kids never played before high school.  We have converted some of the kids who wanted to quit for various reasons to managers, permanent ball boys or what ever else that could keep them in and interested.

I wish ALL coaches, band directors, club sponsors, and principals understood this. Every kid needs an opportunity to feel part of something bigger than themselves. Too many athletic kids walking hallways, but not in a sport or anything athletic. Heck, even unathletic kids can be part of your program, some coaches give up way too early on kids if they aren't showing out by end of freshman season. Maybe that kid learns to run the camera equipment, maybe they make hype videos, maybe they just never were encouraged to play because they were always over the weight limit and were mocked.
Coaches NEED to be on campus and not expect that a simple announcement over a loud speaker is going to get a kid playing.

I deleted the prior posts as to be non-offensive to officials.
All I am trying to do is put it out there that because we are who we are we get sub-par officiating more often than not. Do I expect an official to see this and say, wow we could do better. Absolutely not! What is frustrating as a coach is the lack of respect for a program shown by the officials association. But if I say nothing then I am part of the problem. I have contacted the officials association. I have filled out reviews of officiating. Still nothing happens. I was told directly by the officials that my game doesn't matter therefore 4 officials is all we get because they are short and other games are more important.
I guess i could just shut up, sit back and be compliant.

Dang, I'm feeling pretty proud of my post from August 7th.        It was probably too long for most people to read, but towards the end, I had this to say:
"Plant likely will struggle at the beginning of this season.  The play Wharton in the Kickoff Classic, then open with Tampa Bay Tech, followed by Berkeley on the road.  After that, they've got a chance to win seven, if not all, of their remaining eight games."
Plant lost their opener to TBT (close game that they probably should have won), then lost to Berkeley.  Since then, they've rattled off eight wins in a row, including all three district games.  If seeded high enough, they could win a couple of games in the playoffs, but they probably don't have the horses to make a deep run this year.
In any event, this proves once and for all that even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then.

All it will take to change it again is a couple of the 'wrong' teams getting screwed by the new system.

I'm with you.  I didn't write the original article, but your hypothesis is exactly what happened:
From the minutes of the Board of Director's meeting, April 24-25, 2022:
Operations Committee Chair Finlayson noted the committee met Sunday, April 24, 2022, and the following Action Item (Team Sports Regional Seeding) was presented:
Moved to approve district champions and the four highest ranked non-district champions will be seeded 1-8 for the regional round of the tournament based on their FHSAA Power Rankings.  In the regional quarterfinal round, if a district champion is playing an at-large qualifier, the district champion will host no matter which team is the higher seed.  All other regional quarterfinal matchups will have the higher seed host.  For all subsequent regional rounds, the higher seed will host.  The change will go into effect for the upcoming school year.
The question was called.  Upon Vote:  Motion carried 16-0

    From the Football Handbook:
    4.7.2.1.3.2 Breaking Ties.
    (a) If two schools are tied for first place in the final district standings, the winner of the regular season game between the two schools shall advance to the regional tournament as the district champion.
    b) If three schools are tied for first place in the final district standings and one of the three schools defeated the other two in regular season competition, then that school shall advance to the regional tournament as the district champion.
    (c) If three or more schools are tied for first place in the final district standings and the tie cannot be broken based on the results of regular season competition, then a district tiebreaker shall be based on the FHSAA Power Rankings throughout the entire regular season to include week 11 games.

Now I'm confused.   Does the Operations Committee have the ability to change/modify a policy that the Board of Directors adopted?  Or did the change by the Operations Committee go back to the Board for approval at some time?
Second, if this was done in the Spring, why wouldn't it be included in the Football Handbook?  I feel like this is one of those "they only had one job" memes in the making.

Not me.  District champs deserve to host the first game.  I'm even more convinced of that opinion now that I'm seeing the FHSAA power rankings.

Yeah, you'd have two teams losing in the opening round instead of one.

Um, not entirely true -- depending, I guess, on when you start and stop the "Plant heyday".   Personally, I think the heyday continued up until 2018, but certainly until 2016 when they made it to the state finals.  However, after winning the state championship in 2011, Plant proceeded to lose playoff games to Dr. Phillips (2012), Apopka (2013) and Dr. Phillips again (2014).   Of course, it didn't help that Plant was one of the smallest schools in 8A, often playing schools with double their student population.
That said, you are certainly correct when you say that times have changed.

If a spike (to stop the clock) is now legal from a shotgun formation, the ball would still have to be caught cleanly by the QB and then immediately thrown directly to the ground.  In essence, this is an exception to the intentional grounding rule.  If the QB does not catch the snap cleanly or hesitates or moves/scrambles in any way, the spike-to-stop-the-clock exception will not apply and grounding, if appropriate, can then be called.
At least that's the way I would write the rule.

I can't say that I have.  But, since I don't know what either of you look like, that's not a very strong statement.
