Thank you, Ray.  My question was to Lakeland Gator.  In his post, he stated:  "The choice was made after talking/visiting both campuses, so save the out recruited nonsense."   He sounded like he had some knowledge that the kid or his family had spoken to coaches at one or both of the schools . . . in fact, when I first read it, I was going to ask if the kid had taken "official visits" to both schools a la the way its done in college.
Given what was originally posted, I don't really expect the poster to come back and say something to incriminate the Dreadnaughts (like, "yeah, I was standing right there when the kid stopped by Lakeland over the summer and was talking to Coach Castle about what his chances would be of earning the starting QB job if he were to transfer to Lakeland").   While that may very well have happened, no one's going to come on a message board and acknowledge that.
Bottom line:  I was just looking for a little clarification from the other guy, not you, Ray.

When in doubt, look up the rules:
    28 2022-23 FHSAA Handbook
9.3.2 Transfer Eligibility. A student who transfers from one school to another will be eligible at the new school provided the student qualifies under one of the following:
9.3.2.1 Transfer before Starting a Sport. A student who has not started a sport may seek to immediately
join an existing team if the roster for the specific interscholastic or intrascholastic extracurricular activity has not reached that activity’s identified maximum size, provided the coach for the activity determines that the student has the requisite skill and ability to participate (§ 1006.15(9)(a), F.S.). The student may not be declared ineligible because the student did not have the opportunity to comply with qualifying requirements.
9.3.2.2 Transfer after Starting a Sport. A student may not participate in a sport if the student participated in that same sport at another school during that school year, unless the student meets one of the following criteria (§ 1006.15(9)(b), F.S.):
    (a) Dependent children of active duty military personnel whose move resulted from military orders.
    (b) Children who have been relocated due to a foster care placement in a different school zone.
    (c) Children who move due to a court-ordered change in custody due to separation or divorce, or the serious illness or death of a custodial parent.
    (d) Authorized for good cause in district, private or charter school board policy.

9.3.3 Qualifying Transfer Student Becomes Eligible on Sixth Day of Attendance. A transfer student
who qualifies under Bylaw 9.3.2 will be eligible for competition on the sixth school day of attendance at the new school if:
    (a) The school has received and evaluated the student’s official transcript provided by his/her former school; and
    (b) The school has determined that the student meets all eligibility requirements

So, I guess the question is whether there is "good cause."
    Q.  So, why did you transfer?
    A.  'Cause the other QB was good.

    Here's a short answer:
Metro has four classifications (1-4).  Suburban also has four classifications.  Because, by definition, Metro contains all the high [density] population counties, the schools are, for the most part, going to be larger.  But, it doesn't matter.  At the end of year, come playoff time, the teams in the Metro classifications will only play other teams in their Metro classification and teams in the Suburban classifications will only play other teams in their Suburban classification.   Or, to put it another way, unless a Metro team from any classification plays a team from any Suburban classification during the regular season, they won't be playing them.  So, you don't have to worry about a 3M team playing a 3S in the playoffs -- that ain't going to happen.
At the end of the year, there will be 9 state champions:  the four from Metro, the four from Suburban and the one Rural.  And all the fans and board posters from the four Metro champs will claim that they are the true state champ because they could whip any of the four Suburban champs.  And Jesse will still claim that Madison could beat all of them.
As far as who makes the playoffs, within each classification, there are four regions.  Each region contains four districts.  The four district champs make the playoffs and then the four teams within the region, regardless of district, with the highest MaxPreps power ranking also make the playoffs.  District champs host the first game; after that, the host is the team with the highest power ranking as of the end of the regular season (I think) all the way until the Championship Game.
    Hope this helps.

A handful of interesting games in the Tampa Bay area:
    Plant City vs. Newsome -- who's a contender and who's a pretender?
Plant vs. TBT -- this game could get ugly early for the Panthers, but they hung tough last week with a Wharton team that many expect to contend with TBT and Armwood for the district title.
Wharton vs. Jesuit -- Will Wharton's O-line give Stacy Gage any room to get out into space or will Jesuit show why many expect them to defend their state championship title?
Berkeley vs. Clearwater Central Catholic -- Battle of the Bay for the best of the smaller, private schools in the Bay area.
Leto vs. Blake - interesting because, well, because one of the two teams has to actually win this game.

There are a handful of schools across the state that hold themselves out as 'boarding schools.'  Bolles is one of them.  Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Pete is another one.  Here's a list that someone put together of the Top 10 boarding schools in Florida: https://www.boardingschoolreview.com/florida.  Bolles and Admiral Farragut are on the list, along with IMG and Montverde.
In short, you can be a boarding school and you can still participate in FHSAA-sanctioned sports so long as you meet the requirements of Policy 35.   To my knowledge, STA is not a boarding school and no one lives on campus - unless they are living in the locker room like Rudy did when he first started at Notre Dame.
Under FHSAA rules, no student is supposed to receive any benefits of any kind simply by virtue of the fact that they are an athlete.  No scholarships, no free tuition, no free room and board, etc.  Nothing.  Nada.   Does it happen?  Oh, I suspect so.
