It commemorates the day the day the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, right?

I went with First Baptist despite a fairly strong feeling that OTC was going to win. Had I not done that, I would be in the finals despite my poor seeding.
But it was fun. Good luck to both @KeemD321 and @Perspective. May the best man win!

My momma always taught me that if you don't have anything good to say about someone, you shouldn't say anything at all.   So, with that in mind  . . .

To be honest, I have never met the man in person. That's why I reserved my judgment if you read my post carefully. But I will say this: He tends to come over as overly arrogant. I guess, I don't have great love for arrogant people. Why? The believe they know it all and because of that core belief, they stifle their own ability to grow.

Perspective got a reaction from Jullian in Coach J Vero Beach
I understand your position and, like I said above, I don't know enough about "Coach J" to form an opinion of my own.  Truth is, unless and until he packs up his bags and takes a position as a head coach in South Florida, none of us will ever know what he might have done or might could do.   Some coaches are just the right fit for where they are.  Could the same be said about Coach Castle?  Would he have had the same kind of success in South Florida as he had at Lakeland?  Who knows?

If his son could not throw 20 yards, why was he playing QB at a school not named Apopka?

    Darter, I agree with you.
That said, and knowing nothing more than what has been posted in this thread, I'll draw the following conclusions:
    1.  If there was anyone else on the team that had better arm strength (very likely), they lacked the other qualifications needed to play the QB position (i.e., accuracy, leadership, decision-making, etc.).
    2.  The team was stacked in other positions, such as O-line, RB and/or WR.  It would not surprise me if the lion's share of those 23 TD passes were WR screens, swing passes to the RB's or other short pass completions with a lot of YAC.
    3.  Sons of coaches grow up around the game.  Kid was probably watching film with his dad by the time he was 8.  And while he may not have had the tools needed for the position, he had the moxie and knew the game better than anyone else on the field.   In short, he was a game manager.  A strong arm would have been a bonus, but it wasn't a necessity.
    4.  With all that said, it is perfectly fair to be a critic of the kid's skills without demeaning the coach.  If anything, the coach figured out how to come up with schemes that were successful with a QB that had no arm strength.
    5.  Finally, while the dad may have been shown his ability to game-plan and play-call, his recruiting skills apparently leave something to be desired, which is why he probably wouldn't be successful in South Florida.

Thanks. Unless the school ran Wing T, single wing, triple option, or a veer offense, he would have no business playing QB.

Only way that makes sense is if the Naples kicker had a track record of sending his kicks into the end zone on a regular basis.  Otherwise, it makes no sense and the coach is going to have to live with that decision for the rest of his coaching career.

Yes, but that can work both ways, though. Now if Gaither had some secret schemes that worked to perfection that they had only practiced day after day during their workouts, and they unleased them against STA for the very first time and they worked so well they took an early three score lead, perhaps, just maybe, we could be on upset alert at the half.
Yeah, I admit, I was smoking a blunt when I typed this.

Can't say I remember it well, but I do have the 1994 FHSAA Championship program to re-kick my fading memory. It was 1994 and Ocala Vanguard was lead by the biggest high school quarterback I had ever seen (to that point), 6'4" 220lb Daunte Culpepper. And they brought with them a huge vocal Ocala crowd to Daytona Beach. The only problem was their opponent , for the class 5A state championship was Bradenton-Southeast lead Hall of Fame Head coach Paul Maechtle (283 wins) and a defending 1993 state championship team. Under center for the Seminoles that night might have been the greatest Florida athlete to ever play quarterback, Peter Warrick (FSU, NFL 1st round pick-# 4 Cincinnati, Seattle). The game was close throughout and Vanguard was driving for the win but came up short. Can't remember ending !!!  Southeast wins 19-17.*

Ok, time to clear up some Mandarin debate.
In 2018 they lost a total of four games to Godby, Raines, Lee (Riverside) and Fletcher.  Carson Beck was injured early in the Godby game and missed most of it.  He also missed the following game vs. Lee.  The Raines game he played and they lost on the last play of the game and they lost out here at Fletcher the end of the year because their seeding was locked in and a bunch of starters were sat for the game.

As far as 2018 vs. the current team, there is quite a bit more talent there now than there was in 2018, especially on defense.  Their current QB is good, but not at the level CB was at this point.  The major difference between the two is that the 2018 team was senior dominated while this current team will return next year pretty much intact and will likely be even better.  That 2018 team kind of crept up out of nowhere where while this current team has been a major talking point up here since the summer because everyone knew they were stacked.  Is Mandarin better than the seed they were given?  Yep.  They were penalized because their schedule had two games with "forced" opponents (one district and one through the Gateway rotation).  The combined record of those two was 0-20.  So, while everyone is aghast and coming up with excuses why Mandarin rolled through Seminole and Orange counties the last few weeks, up here it was just kind of expected they would do exactly what they did.  No one really batted an eye.

As far as regular season wins and losses go, who cares as long as you make the tournament.  It's a long season and we are talking about kids, so lots of stupidity happens along the way.  Applying the distributive property to this never works.  It's all about individual match ups.  At this level, just one player can take an otherwise 5-5 roster and turn it into 10 plus wins. Every team matches up with another differently.  That is the one thing that will never change no matter how hard people try to compare a>b and b>c so a>c.  It just never works out that way.
