Silver King reacted to Perspective in Looks as Though Football is a Go for this Season
No offense to the scientists on board, but I'm going to try to get this back on the football track.
So, let's all pretend that there's going to be high school football in the fall. Before it happens and before it happens to a particular school or county (such that we might have a predisposed bias one way or the other), let's address a few questions. Assume fall practice has started up and perhaps the season already has started:
1. What happens when a single member of a team tests positive? He could be a starter or he could be a bench-warmer; does it matter? What should a school do? Quarantine the kid? Require all members of the team (and coaches) to self-quarantine for a specified period of time? How long? One week? Two weeks? Realizing of course, that each week off likely will cost the team a game.
2. If you don't require the whole team to be quarantined (but only the single player who tested positive), aren't you now subjecting the next opponent to exposure of the virus -- perhaps through asymptomatic players? Of course, that's always going to be a risk, but the risk increases with a known positive result. Assuming some form of team quarantine, what effect does that have on the next game or two? Do those opponents get Covid forfeit wins?
3. What if there are multiple teams in a particular geographic area that are forced to take a week or two off? Can or must "clean teams" in that area play each other instead of getting a Covid forfeit win? Absent an agreement, perhaps the clean teams would have to be within 2 or 3 classifications of each other, so that a 2A team doesn't get matched up against an 8A team . . . unless the 2A team is Madison.
4. Or, how about this: put someone at the FHSAA in charge of 'last minute scheduling.' Say by 3:00 on Wednesday, the last-minute scheduler knows who all the virus teams are and who all the clean teams are, who was supposed to be playing who, who had a home game scheduled and who was supposed to be on the road. The scheduler then matches up the clean teams against each other (based on size, location, etc.), allowing home teams to keep home games as much as possible for both the gate receipts and referee scheduling.
5. Should Covid forfeit losses count against team RPI's? Going from 10 games to 8 probably wouldn't be a problem, but what if the virus hits again and a team loses two more games to the virus? Could a team qualify for the playoffs having only played six games?
6. Speaking of the playoffs, what happens if Covid hits then? At this point, I'm guessing the clean team gets a bye and the team with the virus, well, their season is over.
7. What happens if a team tries to hide the fact that their 3rd team long-snapper, son of a prominent booster had tested positive prior to a game, but the team chose to keep quiet? What should the punishment be? Fines? Suspensions? Death penalty . . . at least for the rest of the season?
I'm curious what your answers are to these questions, but regardless, someone needs to start thinking about these questions (and more) now. FHSAA Task Force, are you out there?

If that is Los he can be found over in prep gridiron national board
He is as out of touch and clueless as he was in his annoying yet brief appearance on this board where he was banned about 10 times within a month lol

Good luck, let's just hope we get to watch this season. 0-0 is much worse than 5-5.

Well, they lost to all the teams I mentioned and they'll have to crack into that group first, to make a deep run, but they got to the playoffs. We didn't play them last season so I'm not that familiar with who they return. Overall from a few years ago, they were a team that played hard.
Again, a new coach has to make waves quick without Top Shelf players in Lee County, because once they develop them there has been tendency to leave, and that has been a trait before the so called Free Agency era. Island Coast is a great example, 10 years ago they were a very competitive program - where the kids were going, but since have been through a bunch of head coaches. They develop athletes to a certain point then they go free agent.

Namesakes for their county's in SW FL are always competitive. After that, in Lee County it varies from year to year based on transfers. What the athletes feel (or are presented) to be the team with the best shot at a deep run. Dunbar is always loaded and has been competitive, North has made a few runs.
In Charlotte County, The Tarpons are in a tough district- last year the district produced four playoff teams and the Tarpons just made it in the 4th spot. They got on a hot streak to get a rematch with District Champ, Palmetto in the Regional Final, but got thumped. The other two teams that made it, Port Charlotte and Bradon River will be competitive.
Charlotte has a new HC, new DC, new OC, new QB Coach. Think they will likely update their offense, so this will be a year for the team to gain experience as players and coaches. I have confidence in the system, and the coaches who stayed and took over the key vacancies, all home grown Tarps, my sons played with two of them. We have a very good QB returning and some skills, need some O-line help. But my expectations are realistic.

Thanks Peezy, my brother!
Columbia, Venice and Palmetto are always tough, lots of athletes and good coaching. Think both graduated QBs last year. But Venice is really good in getting transfers to key positions they need to make a run.

No problem, and you will find a lot of great perspectives on this message board Silver King.

That's Awesome, Congrats Coach Sammy! Ft Myers is a great program and the pair of them built it. Charlotte's oldest and most respected rival since 1926.
Ironic that Sammy and Binky played over each other for their respectve schools and ended up in a long coaching career against each other. Such great legendary games, and I can't imagine another rivalry in the state that has had as many last minute turnarounds (or double OT in a Regional Final) as this series.
And you got to see a half dozen as the Ball Boy!

Silver King has finally joined this message board? This is a very exciting development, but I just hope that the senile old man doesn't decide to join my good message board friend from Charlotte.

Great to have THE Silver King and THEE best Boat Captain of SW FL on the board... Yes they talk football here and there are some people who represent most corners of the state. Also... Politics is strictly band and pretty much anything Neutral posted in the past 3 months (or his entire existence for that) will likely but cut and banned on site.
@ColumbiaHighFan2017class I finally got the old guy over here lol.

Binky Waldrop Charlotte High School 1999-2019. HC for 21 seasons, 168-72. Had a great staff including our OC and DC who were former head coaches that had a hell of a run together. His first coaching job was at cross town rival, Port Charlotte.
Bink was Twice Coach of the year, 17 Playoff appearances made it to 7 Regional finals in some of the toughest classifications with teams like St Thomas, Venice, Booker T, Armwood, Carol City. Tough to win a title in that company with kids from a retirement community.
Believe his was the first West Coast Team to beat St Thomas Aquinas in the playoffs (2002 Regional Title Game) 28-21. Great Home Grown Coach that got the most out of teams that almost always lost the eye-test with the others on the field. I played at Charlotte and had three sons play for him and couldn't have asked for a better experience for them.
Replaced by Wade Taylor, another home grown Tarpon.
