  1. Who will be at QB for Vero this year?
  2. No, we've only lived in The Fort for six years. Did he play at Central or Westwood?
  3. Sounds like a good night to get some garbage fries from Cafe 66 or an oyster po'boy from Fishack before heading over.
  4. I'm not sure what that has to do with why Roland should or shouldn't take the job. Plenty of community support in Kingsland, and if I had to guess, a better paying job than Mainland. I've seen plenty of Mainland games over the years, including Maronto's final game after the prostitution sting and they never had the kind of turnout that I saw in Kingsland that night.
  5. We went to a game at Camden Co probably 10 years or so ago. Camden Co v Valdosta. Nice facility and they had a huge crowd.
  6. I'm guessing the spring game is in V-Roe?
  7. Thought Treasure Coast was the more physical team last night, particularly on the DL. If not for Aronson's scrambles and the TC fumble around the Vero 10, the game wouldn't have been as close as it was.
  8. I've seen TC 4 times and Vero 5 times this year. Vero has more overall talent, but something has been off kilter every time I saw them. I don't see that being solved in a week's time. Barring multiple turnovers and/or a barrage of penalties, I'll go with TC by 7.
  9. We went to this one last night. The most shocking thing to me was how well TC kept the Swint kid bottled up, as well as the rest of the Kowboy offense. They just dominated the LOS and never let him get the edge. On a side note, how sad of a crowd was that last night? I'd say somewhere between 300-400 there. We're going back to Tennessee for Thanksgiving. On that weekend, across the border in my old Virginia hometown, they will likely be playing for the regional championship. It'll be 2 schools with enrollments of around 450 students, but there will be around 4K people in the stands armed with air horns and cowbells, as well as the stadium's train horn. It will be electric. I have no desire to move back there, but I wish I could bottle up some of that atmosphere and put it into the water at the schools down here.
  10. We saw Pahokee against Atlantic and THE Benjamins. Sat on the Pahokee side and loved how their fans get loud and keep it going. It reminds me of my old hometown in VA.
  11. We wanted to go last night, but couldn't get away in time to get there in time to get a seat, so we settled for Boca Raton at Westwood. How is the seating situation at Glades Central and Pahokee, and do they have a fence where you can stand and watch? In addition, what's a good place to eat supper in both towns? We've eaten at Dixie Fried Chicken in Belle Glade before, but it's been a couple of years.
  12. Went to the game tonight. TC was clearly the better team, and the final margin could have been 36-10. TC fumbled at the Vero 5 after a long catch and run when the receiver was struggling to get into the end zone, and then TC jumped a pass route and a kid dropped the easiest pick 6 opportunity he'll ever have. As for Vero, I don't know what their problems stem from, but something is really off kilter for them. Like someone else said, I'm leaning to believe it has at least some to do with the transfers. There's way too much physical talent there for them to struggle like they have at times this year.
  13. I don't doubt the coaches tore into them. It was 30-6, but FPC handed them something like 16 points by being unable to successfully execute a punt. We've lived here for 5 years, and usually watch Vero 3-4 times or more each year, among the other schools. I've always considered them to be the best coached program on the Treasure Coast, but there is something really off kilter this year.
  14. TC has an open date, then FPC and Centennial before Vero, so that's almost like three open dates and they should be good shape when Vero comes to town. STA and Cocoa are maybe 2 of the top 4 teams in the state in any division, so I wasn't surprised they lost like they did. As for THE Benjamin School and Jensen, that went about like I expected too. Jensen's defense did a commendable job, but couldn't get anything at all going on offense.
  15. I watched Vero against Central this evening. There's something off kilter with Vero. They won 45-6, and yes, FPC is really bad, but Vero had 3 turnovers and gave up multiple sacks. I've seen them against Dwyer (preseason), Miami NW, Palm Beach Gardens, Sanford, and now FPC. They've looked nothing like what I thought they would this year, and just seem really unorganized and lacking intensity except for the Miami NW game.
  16. No. Close to the TN, KY & WV borders.
  17. Virginia, and no. I'm an old man now. I did it when I was much younger, but got a good job at a chemical plant that required me to work swing shift, which made it impossible to officiate unless I wanted to spend a bunch of my vacation days to do it. Refs have always missed calls and always will, but I have the utmost respect for them just for being out there so the kids can play.
  18. I thought with TC up 32-21 at the half, the 2nd half would be just as wild, but TC hit the gas with those 2 quick TD to open the 3rd quarter and never looked back.
  19. Former official in another state.
  20. We were there tonight. Tons of penalties. I'd guess well over 200 yards combined. Were there questionable calls? Probably. I'd need to watch the complete game on film before commenting one way or the other. We went to Davie on Thursday night to watch Milton, GA v Western and there were a ton of penalties called there too. In keeping up with a game online back in VA tonight it was the same story with the penalties. Early season + high school players often = lots of penalties. Otherwise, it was a great game. I thought NW should have stuck with the backup QB. He gave the Bulls offense an added dimension with his feet.
  21. Exactly. I grew up and lived in a small Virginia town in coal mining country for 30 years. On Friday nights, the towns shut down and everyone is at a game, and it's still like that today even though many of the schools have been consolidated. There was nothing like running out on that field on a Friday night with the stands full. A friend of mine was a teacher in Pound, VA who described it as a town of 1800 people, 1300 of who will turn out on Friday night to watch a team that's going to finish 1-9 or 2-8. It was the same in upper East TN, where I worked and lived before retiring to Fort Pierce five years ago. High school football is a passion for my wife and I, and we've been to games all across the southeastern US. Florida schools by far have the worst atmosphere. About the only places we've been to here that have a decent atmosphere in Florida are Vero Beach, Cocoa and Rockledge. The Central v Westwood game in The Fort is a big draw, but otherwise they don't have much going on for other games.
  22. Who was #44 at RB? In addition, Champ Smith looks to have lost a decent amount of weight from last season.
  23. We'll likely catch the NW, Sanford and Treasure Coast games at least. Love eating at Cafe 66 before the games.
  24. I saw him in his first varsity game last year when JCC opened at THE Benjamin School. I looked at the JCC roster on MaxPreps and told my wife that there was no way he was a freshman, but it turned out his grandparents were sitting next to us and his papaw assured me he was. On a hot, steamy night, he was unblockable one on one and played both ways for much of the game. He was pushing offensive linemen into the backfield all night. I saw him again later at Cardinal Newman. For whatever reason(s), he didn't play much (if at all) on defense and spent all his time at tackle. Any idea where VB is going to (mostly) use him? I hope to catch a couple of so VB games this year. Love going to the Citrus Bowl. We usually sit over where the train horn guy was because it's easier to get in and out of. Hate to hear that he passed away and hope one of his buddies will take over the horn. We go to a variety of games on the Treasure Coast, but also venture down to Miami and up to Cocoa for the right game. Can't wait for the season to start.
